Well-known evangelical prophetic author Hal Lindsey has died.

Lindsey is most recognized for his end times book, "The Late Great Planet Earth," which the New York Times said was the best-selling non-fiction book of the 1970s.

The author, who was a strong supporter of Israel, released the book shortly after the Six-Day War. It brought biblical prophecy and contemporary geopolitical developments to a broader audience.

"The Late Great Planet Earth" sold millions of copies, was adapted into a film in 1979, and was narrated by Orson Welles.   ...

Lindsey and co-author Carole C. Carlson definitely popularized the Pre-Mil, Pre-Trib dispensationalist view of eschatology with their 1970 The Late Great Planet Earth. Their view of the significance of 1948 and "this generation" didn't age well, but I'm not aware of how Lindsey updated that aspect.

Hall of Fame college basketball coach Lou Carnesecca, who won more than 500 games and led St. John's to three Big East titles and a 1985 Final Four appearance, died Saturday at the age of 99.

The university said it was notified by a family member that Carnesecca died in a hospital surrounded by his family, just weeks shy of his 100th birthday. It said Carnesecca "endeared himself to generations of New Yorkers with his wit and warmth."

Carnesecca was a treasured figure in New York sports in his day, affection for "Looie" never wavering in a city with little patience for its players, coaches, executives and owners.

He coached St. John's for 24 seasons over two stretches -- making a postseason tournament each year -- and became the face of a university whose campus arena in Queens would eventually carry his name. ...

Marshall Brickman, folksinger turned comedy writer who wrote productions ranging from The Tonight Show to Jersey Boys, dies at 85

Brickman began his career as a folk singer before joining the staff of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in the mid-1960s as head writer. After stints with Carson and Dick Cavett, Brickman began a long collaboration with Woody Allen, writing for his films, including the Oscar-winning Annie Hall.

In the early 2000s, Brickman and Rick Elice were approached by The Four Seasons to adapt the band's life story for a Broadway musical. The end result, Jersey Boys, became a Broadway phenomenon and helped jumpstart the trend of the jukebox musical (where existing songs and bands are adapted to Broadway, as opposed to the traditional approach of writing new songs to a production). Brickman and Elice followed that up with a musical adaptation of The Addams Family, which became a community theater favorite.

Thom Christopher, ‘One Life To Live’ Actor, Dies at 84

Thom Christopher, who portrayed the mobster Carlo Hessler in the ABC soap opera “One Life To Live,” died Thursday in New York. He was 84.

His longtime friend Steve Bergman confirmed his death with a loving message on Facebook. In it, Bergman explains that Christopher had been unwell for some time. His message read, “Thom has been sick for quite awhile now and fought through it all like a champ. We spoke 2-3 times a month and always had great long conversations. He was such a smart man who gave great advice and told such fantastic stories…”

I remember him as Hawk, from the second season of 'Buck Rogers' back in the 1980s.

This is confusing. Like you said, no one else is reporting this. And Wikipedia, who update pages just minutes after a prominent person passes, still talks about him in present tense and provides no date of death.

A google search for "is calypso Louie dead" returns that Farrakhan is still alive.

I have to admit not having heard of most of the people on the list. Sad to hear that Sandra Crouch had died, but being in her 80s was a good lifespan. Sandra sang with her twin brother, Andrae', in the 1970s CCM group "Andrae' Crouch and the Disciples". A bit later in life she and Andrae' co-pastored a Church of God in Christ (a majority-black Pentecostal-Holiness denomination) church in the LA area.

One of the nice things most news agencies do between now and NYE is a remembrance piece with lots of photos of those who have shuffled off this mortal coil this past year.

I forgot so many of the people who died this year died.
