Among the hits Fuller wrote in the late 1950s into the mid-1960s that became hits were "Travelin' Man" (among others) for Ricky Nelson, "Young Girl" for Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, "Lies" for the Knickerbockers, "Arizona" by Mark Lindsay, and "Show and Tell," which became a hit for Al Wilson in the 1970s.

Don't recognize the name but know the songs. People who were young adults when I was growing up are dying off, sadly. Movies and TV shows have the odd effect, with me at least, of freezing people in time. My mental picture of ________ is how (s)he was in their hit show or movie.

Because I'm a huge Glen Campbell fan, I found out about him when I learned about a doo-wop quartet called The Trophies that consisted of Jerry Fuller, Glen Campbell, Ricky Nelson and Dave Burgess. My understanding is that they featured a different member on each record. I don't know if they held concerts. Jerry Fuller co-wrote this one that featured Glen:

I don't know which one  was Fakir, but I loved seeing this video. They were all so young and cute and trim and exquisitely groomed. I miss those days.

“Blind Lemon Jefferson, Blind Blake, Blind Boy Fuller... all the blind guys.” That’s how the multi-instrumentalist John Mayall, one of the chief architects of the British blues revival of the 1960s, who died at 90 yesterday at his home in California, described the influences that shaped his musical tastes and inspired a career that stretched across six decades. That career, which started well before Mayall formed his famous Bluesbreakers in 1963, was not defined by blindness so much as by a single-minded, near-messianic vision that the music created by Black artists of the Mississippi Delta and Chicago’s South Side possessed beauty, honesty, and strength that transcended race, age, and geography. And so, thanks to Mayall—along with the like-minded musician Alexis Korner and a growing number of aficionados—American blues took root in London’s coffee bars, the domain of trad jazz. From there it migrated to subterranean clubs packed with sweaty youths, and on to record players and radios in bedsitter flats from Bournemouth to Belfast.

Mayall’s Bluesbreakers were a clearinghouse for generational talent. Eric Clapton quit the Yardbirds and joined the band; his playing was featured on its debut LP, released in 1966. When Clapton left, Peter Green, later to found Fleetwood Mac, joined. And when Green left, Mick Taylor, later of the Rolling Stones, joined. Mayall was to British blues guitarists what Leo Castelli was to New York painters; his group was the blue-chip gallery you wanted to show your work in. The bassist Jack Bruce met Clapton in the Bluesbreakers, then went on to found Cream. Other future rock stars who were Mayall alumni: Mick Fleetwood and John McVie, later of Fleetwood Mac, and the well-traveled drummer Aynsley Dunbar. In these Bluesbreakers incarnations, and in many more that would follow, Mayall moved between guitar and keyboards, with spotlight moments to demonstrate his prowess on harmonica. Even so, Mayall’s chief talent may have been his uncanny, unselfish capacity for spotting it in others.

Dr. Ruth Westheimer created her own career and niche business when sex therapy discussions in public were a taboo subject. This was especially true with a woman who was over 50 years old and speaking about it in public, on the radio. She made immense waves with Sexually Speaking in 1980 upon its release and continued on air to discuss sex issues for 10 years. By 1983 she had a top-rated radio show in a huge market, NYC, for the country. Her over-the-airwaves success led to her starting her own TV show, The Dr. Ruth Show, which opened her to a different medium that took further altitudinal flight in the 1980s. TV talk shows were the thing to watch whether it was Oprah, Donahue, Arsenio, Carson or Letterman. She still stood out even with the market being so crowded with more options than ever like Cavett, Griffin, King, Raphael and Riveria taking up more of the airwaves. She made a strong career out of a life of tragedy, challenges and yes, military service. What else would we write about?

Erica Ash dead at 46: Scary Movie actress and Mad TV star passes away after a long battle with cancer

Erica Ash, who starred in the Scary Movie franchise, has died aged 46 following a long battle with cancer, her family has confirmed.

The American actress was also known for appearing on the Fox sketch comedy show Mad TV and the BET reality spoof Real Husbands of Hollywood.

'Erica was an amazing woman and talented entertainer who touched countless lives with her sharp wit, humor and genuine zest for life,' her family said in a statement, obtained by The Hollywood Reporter. 'Her memory will live eternally in our hearts.'

The date of Ash's passing and the cause of death have not yet been revealed.
