Gaetz Has Filed Motion To Vacate the Chair

2026 won't mean shit if this thing unravels, and we don't have a working viable Speaker the rest of the term.  That same MSM that you rightfully villify 5X more if the GOP come across utterly inept and disorganized.

2026 is eons away and more problemtic , if we seal our fate this week.

In reality, who the Speaker is makes very little difference.  What is needed is a larger GOP caucus with a clear House majority willing to control spending.  Absent a majority of House members being willing to do that (ignoring the Senate and Presidency for the moment...), who the Speaker is won't make a damn bit of difference.

That's what Gaetz & Co. either don't understand, or deliberately ignore.

Fully agree, positionally, but no one wants the job, and how is the House going to operate without formal leadership?

I support Motion to Vacate.

Speaker McCarthy has failed to demonstrate himself as an effective leader who will change the status quo.

He has gone against many of the promises he made in January and can no longer be trusted at the helm.

I'm just going to say that whatever the end result of this entire process is, responsibility lies solely at the feet of Gaetz and his allies.  They get no points for their intention, desires, goals, etc..  All that matters is whether or not Gaetz's Motion puts us in a better or worse position.

They get elected for results, not for grandstanding.

Playing insider games, jockeying for position and seeking incremental gains has gotten us nothing.

Isn't there anyone in leadership who can be trusted to keep their word?

If the Pubs can't come up with a Speaker that can be trusted then why vote for them?

 is chaos.

I think $33 Trillion in debt is chaos.

I think not passing single-subject spending bills is chaos.

I think being governed by continuing resolutions and omnibus bills is chaos.

Chaos is somebody we cannot trust with their word.

That’s why I’ve moved to vacate the chair.

Oh, I agree completely.  Vacating the Speakership when the Speaker still has the overwhelming support of the GOP caucus, and when there is no plan on how to proceed or consensus alternative candidate, is just asinine.

I'm just pointing out that everyone directing their ire at McCarthy for not being conservative enough aren't taking into account that there are not enough votes among Republicans for the kind of things Gaetz & Co are demanding, plus the willingness to endure a long shutdown to try to force the House and President to accept them.  That's not McCarthy's fault.  That's just who the voters sent to Washington this time around.

You fail to see the forest from trees.  No one is arguing the Gaetz' point  of how badly the fiscal house has been run.  But...  Before blowing it up, have to have a Plan B.    That is why this ouster vote needs to be defered to January 3, 2025.

These people are obstructionists to MAGA victories. We deserve better.

My only disagreement with her post.

It's not about MAGA victories, it's about having an open legislative process and ending the middle of the night backroom deals that everyone votes for and only a few know what's in the bill. I don't expect conservatives to get everything they want in a bill, but I want to know what's in it and what were the compromises.

I'll say this -- the emotions are very high among both those attacking McCarthy, and those defending him.  Assuming this Motion succeeds, the issue of the Speakership is not going to be resolved quickly.  McCarthy has more than enough strong supporters to kill the election of any alternative.

Been telling you...live in the REAL world.

On one hand, Gaetz' post is noble and truthful.  Compliments to him for putting it out there just how all you deficit hawks are...shrieking pansies who think by holding a moral high ground will somehow get you reelected.

BTW... I love the idea of Donald Trump as Speaker of the House.

He'd be 3rd in line.

But, since nobody else is going to kow-tow to his bullying, he's going to blow it all up instead and hand the reins back to the democrats.  Please explain to us how having the democrats back in charge is going to do anything positive for future generations?
