Ron DeSantis' Throws Down the Gauntlet, Challenges Trump to One-on-One Debate: 'I'm Ready for It'
By Jeff Charles | 2:30 PM on September 28, 2023

Fresh off a decent showing in the second Republican presidential primary debate, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has set his eyes on the other “big guy” former President Donald Trump. During an interview on Fox News, DeSantis threw down the gauntlet and challenged Trump to a mano-a-mano showdown on the debate stage.

The question is: Will Trump accept the challenge?

While speaking with host Bill Hemmer, DeSantis railed against the former president for skipping the first two debates, arguing that he “owes it to the voter to defend his record” and to “defend the decisions he’s made.”

“He didn’t fire Christopher Wray. He didn’t fire Anthony Fauci. He didn’t do anything to clean house. Now, all of a sudden, he’s going to slay the administrative state when he gave Fauci an award his last day in office,” DeSantis said, also noting that the former president ran up “massive amounts of debt.”

If Trump can't win a debate against Biden, how is he going to win one against DeSantis?
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

This might make a good @corbe poll  I don't think Trump has the courage to debate DeSantis. He knows that DeSantis will outshine him BIGLY.

Honestly, this sounds rather desperate.

Best thing DeSantis can do to help his campaign at this point is to beat Newsome.

Trump couldn't debate Cruz worth a damn.  So what to do instead?  Hire your character assassins, and have them do the dirty work for you.

Trump perfected this method so well, he bypassed the debates in entirety and went for slime instead.  Just like Cruz, RDS career may permanetly suffer from lies, slimes and distortions.

Agree

Besides, Trump will not debate anybody that will confront him on his policies, both while president and some of the extreme positions he’s proposing know.

Desperate? It's a legitimate challenge and one debate that Americans deserve to see.

Do you have a tally on how much campaign money has been spent by DJT smearing RDS?

Just wondering.

I used to think that MAGAs we’re just joking about how they saved  Ron DeSantis’s  political career

Trump give his endorsement in 2018, and the guy barely wins. Without Trump’s endorsement, he wins by nearly 20 points.

And Trump supporters somehow think that’s a feather in Trump’s cap. Personally, I would be embarrassed to make a case like that. But that’s just me.

When you look deep down into root causes.  DJT has done more damage to the conservative movement than any democrat.

He and his slimey henchmen  have systematically (among others) tried to destroy the reputations and character of some of our strongest conservatives like Cruz and RDS.

That son of a bitch needs to pay for that.

But it's one that there is a zero percent chance Trump will accept, and everyone knows it.   So it looks to me like desperation.

Maybe, but when Trump says no to a debate, it makes him sound like he's a-feared of "DeSanctimonius," or whatever the stupid nickname du jour might be.

Trump's portfolio has nothing but catchy insults, and left wing initiatives.

Except that he's said "no" to two debates already and it hasn't hurt him one bit.  So if he hasn't agreed to debate the field, why on earth would he give a boost to a specific challenger by having a one on one debate?

The fringe, so called "principled conservative" actually holds this scepter.

Except MAGA  endorsed candidates are losing elections.

What full picture?

I don’t think Trump’s 2018 endorsement hurt Ron DeSantis. And and I suppose one couldn’t make the argument  it may have helped a little.

But he did much better without his endorsement. And if you look down the line, Republicans that get the MAGA  endorsement have lost elections.

I have no personal animosity towards Donald Trump. He hasn’t done anything to me or my loved ones.

But I won’t live in a world of denial like many of his supporters.

Could Ron DeSantis win a general election? I don’t know.

Does Ron DeSantis have the ability to get us out of the current mess we find ourselves in? I don’t know.

But you can’t keep borrowing, printing, and growing the size of the federal government without something drastic happening at some point.

It will be interesting to see how Trump weasels out of this invitation without appearing to be a bully or afraid of his opponent.
