Ukrainian forces knocked out one of Vladimir Putin's newest warplanes when a kamikaze drone exploded a Su-57 multi-purpose fighter plane, it has emerged.

The £51million aircraft was on the ground in Akhtubinsk military airfield in the Astrakhan region of southern Russia.

The drone - one of three - flew some 365 miles from the frontline, evading Russian air defences.

It's my understanding that Russia lost two of these.  They had eight operational.  Four were at this base.

Ukraine has been disabling/destroying the SAM systems in and near occupied Crimea. That this opens Russian occupiers' facilities, from air and naval bases to personnel housing, to attack is clear and foreseeable. Evacuating families and unnecessary personnel is sensible. It also demonstrates that while Russian air defenses are porous, they are still worth knocking out.

The best info we have is that an Su-57 was damaged. Whether it is BER (Beyond Economical Repair) or not is yet to be determined. The interesting thing is that the base is several hundred miles from Ukraine. That means Ukraine can strike that far, and that Russian air defense systems are porous. The Russians have had to move air assets farther and farther from Ukraine, because of Ukrainian attacks, but Ukraine keeps lengthening their reach.

Traitor Gennady Matsegora, who at the time of the occupation of Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region was the mayor and was one of the first to agree to work for the occupiers, has died.
