Those people are in for a very rude awakening when they discover all the lies Putin and crew have fed them. All the Ukrainian cities and civilians destroyed and murdered by Putin for a land/resource grab. The truth will eventually work its way there.

Funny how those Russians are mostly willfully blind and only talk in euphemisms about the "situation."  And old man Viktor's comments about "killing them all, even the women and children" are telling about the Russian mindset.

Two Views Of Ukraine’s Invasion Of Russia

Lawrence Person's BattleSwarm Blog 8/24/2024

One wonders if Vladimir Putin knew that not only would his three day “special military operation” in Ukraine drag on for at least two and a half years, but that Ukraine would launch a successful invasion of Kursk oblast, if he might have reconsidered ordering it.

Ukraine’s Kursk incursion continues to take territory in Russia.

A lot of observers (myself included) were puzzled by what endgame Ukraine is seeking in Kursk. So here are a couple of theories.

Peter Zeihan thinks the invasion is to cut off supplies to the city of Belgorod (one of the two major logistical hubs for Russia’s war effort).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AVSki6dIgg&t=0s

“No one invades Russia on a whim.”

“The problem that the Russians have always had expanding for Moscow is that there’s no logical place to stop that’s within a thousand miles of them. So they expand, they conquer some minorities, they occupy them, they try to Russify them, they turn them to cannon fodder, and they throw them in the next line of minorities. They continue this process over and over and over and over and over until they eventually reach a geographic barrier that they can actually hunker down behind.”

“It works until it doesn’t. And what we’re seeing with Russia right now is that the demographic decline among the Russian ethnicity is so high that within a few years they’re going to be having problems occupying their own populations.”

“The incursion that the Ukrainians have made into Russia proper isn’t all that impressive from a territorial point of view. Basically in the last two weeks the Ukrainians have invaded Russia proper. They’ve taken over about a thousand square kilometers in the province of Kursk. And the question is why, and what is next.”

“They have already destroyed the three permanent bridges over the river Seym, which is a east-west river that cuts through Kursk province, and by doing that they’ve made it very difficult for the Russians to reinforce the territories around where this incursion has been.”

------

https://youtu.be/voAG7w-wj6w

“The initial reaction to Ukraine’s move into Kursk was mixed. Many, especially those in the Russian military establishment, dismissed it as a mere PR stunt or a psychological operation, a distraction intended to draw attention away from other fronts. But as the days progressed, it became clear that this was no mere show of force. The Ukrainian Army was committed, and their objectives were far more strategic than anyone had anticipated.”

Even “Z propagandists” in Russia are admitting that ejecting Ukraine from Kursk oblast will take time. “This was a wakeup call. The country’s military and political leaders had long been accustomed to dismissing Ukrainian operations as inconsequential. The belief was that Russia’s superior military power would always be enough to repel any significant threat. But the events unfolding in Kirsk challenged this assumption.” Even some of the most pro-war Russian milbloggers began to express doubts.

“Russian president Vladimir Putin is facing a very scary decision. For years Putin has positioned himself as a strongman, a leader who would stop at nothing to achieve his goals. But the events in Kursk revealed the limits of his power. The Russian military, once his unstoppable force, was now struggling to respond to a determined and well-coordinated Ukrainian offensive.”

“Putin’s dilemma is rooted in the fact that he has few good options left. The Russian military is stretched thin, its resources depleted by years of sustaining conflict the invasion of Ukraine, which was supposed to be a quick and decisive victory, has instead turned to a grinding war of attrition. And now, with the Ukrainian forces pushing into Russian territory, the weaknesses of the Russian military are becoming more apparent than ever.”

What would the Russians think if Belgorod, Kursk, or Voronezh ended up looking like Chasiv Yar?

Dogs of war: Britain's new robots aiding Ukraine, terrorizing Russia as drones continue dominating battlefield

https://www.foxnews.com/world/dogs-war-britains-new-robots-aiding-ukraine-terrorizing-russia-drones-continue-dominating-battlefield

Quote
The United Kingdom has provided Ukraine with robotic "war dogs" that have started assisting troops on the battlefield and terrifying Russian troops who see them, according to reports.

"The robot dog demonstrated its capabilities in delivering a range of critical equipment, showcasing its potential as an invaluable asset to military units," manufacturer Brit Alliance said of the units.

"The robot dog exhibited exceptional mobility and agility, crucial for traversing complex and hostile environments," the company added. "Whether navigating through debris, climbing over obstacles, or moving stealthily across open ground, the robot dog has proven itself capable of maintaining a high level of operational effectiveness."

(snip)

Ukrainian troops have taken over 30 of the dogs, which are effectively sophisticated land drones. Each unit costs around $9,000 to produce, and Brit Alliance has promised to update the units based on feedback from the Ukrainian troops.

Brit Alliance believes this battlefield demonstration of the BAD2 unit will help turn it into a "cornerstone of modern military logistics." The unit can move at just over 9 mph and move for five hours to a distance of over two miles, according to East2West.

The commander of the Kurt & Company told The Telegraph that the unit is working to make the dogs "act as a kamikaze drone against vehicles or enemy soldiers" but that if "one dog saves one soldier’s life, we will be satisfied."

It doesn't look quite like this, but you get the point.

One can get RC kit jet engines for around a thousand USD or so.  If Ukraine is using these to build jet-engine-based drones, that's pretty balls-y.

Can you imagine basically being a stranded Russian soldier, and reading that you soon might have to face killer drone dogs?   Talk about a morale killer.

Putin seizes £75million from Google's Moscow bank accounts to fund Russia’s war on Ukraine

Russian authorities took £75 million from Google to fund TV propaganda for Vladimir Putin's crazed war in Ukraine, new court documents filed by the tech giant claim

Benedict Tetzlaff-Deas  |  25  Aug 2024  |  11:40

Vladimir Putin has plundered $100 million (£75million) from Google to fund Russia's war in Ukraine, according to new legal documents.

Court filings in the US have revealed how the money was taken from the tech giant’s Moscow bank accounts in 2022 around the time the devastating conflict began - forcing their Russian subsidiary into bankruptcy. Google fully exited the country in October 2023. The money taken by the bailiffs was instead given to state-run Russian TV channels, such as Russia Today and Tsargrad, which have both played a central role in broadcasting propaganda to the population about the two-year war in Ukraine.

It comes after the San Francisco-based firm filed lawsuits against the two broadcasters and the Russian channel NFPT in US and English courts last week. According to the Telegraph, Google said in the US documents: “The bailiffs seized more than $100m of Google Russia’s assets, even though the amount purportedly due under the judgement at the time was less than $12.5m (one billion roubles). Tsargrad received one billion roubles from the seizure, which it said it would use to support Russia’s war in Ukraine.”  .  .  .

All possible because the US stupidly taxes wealth generated by US companies outside the US.  Without this asinine tax, Google would have brought that money home and invested it here.

I thought that there was a prohibition in investing in Russia.  I know some US oil companies had to divest.  How did Google get away with it?

Google opened its Russian office in 2006, https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-switch/wp/2014/12/12/the-switchboard-google-said-to-pull-engineering-office-out-of-russia/ . Pretty sure that predates sanctions against Russia.
