@corbe

I have my doubts about that one. General Officers NEVER go anywhere alone.

The idea that somebody looked at a purple onion and called it a red onion really bothers me.

So very true, especially before the era of GPS.  There were (are?) inner loop locations, that if you miss your street, you might have to drive another 15-30 minutes to find another one to get onto the 610 loop.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. Ok,that is a little more than scary from the side or back. I can "see" someone kinky that LOVES to be scared by horror movies spotting him walking down the sidewalk, and running over him with their car.

Yep. More than that, you can pull up at a red light in the wrong lane and the next thing you know you are on a road trip to visit cousin Eddie. And all you want is to get back to where you were. If you are not careful, some lanes force you to an on-ramp.

@240B

Seems to me like a GPS receiver would almost be mandatory there.

Providing,of course, you were able to change lanes in time and did not get cut off.

@sneakypete
Did not know I was in a right only lane until I was actually at the red light. And it took me straight to an on-ramp. No time to change lanes. I hear this is not unusual in the Texas road systems statewide. Kind of a known problem, and has caused lots of accidents.

Can relate
Everyone got their vice
I have at least a dozen abandoned projects with an investment in all of them.
See something on TV or internet and think, 'I want to do that!'
A month later, I'm on to something else.

My dope habit back then would compare. Now I visualize the project to see what I can recycle from being the recipient of people that can't seem to throw $hit away, I reply "sure I'll take it". I incorporate that into the project and I'm off to a great start.  Needless to say, I have enough improvements around here to last me this year and it will cost me little, money wise.  If I complete them, I'm resourceful if I don't, I'm lazy.

Looks like a coat rack, but it's going to  be kinda awkward to hang your coat on it.

Maybe that will be the job given to employees close to retirement?

You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.

Apparently, making Star Wars was a nonstop Hollywood drug/sex party and she loved it.

An elderly couple had dinner at another couple's house, and after eating, the wives left the table and went into the kitchen.
The two gentlemen were talking, and one said, 'Last night we went out to a new restaurant and it was really great I would
recommend it very highly.'

The other man said, 'What is the name of the restaurant?'

The first man thought and thought and finally said, 'What's the name of that flower you give to someone you love? You know,
the one that's red and has thorns.'

'Do you mean a rose?'

'Yes, that's the one,' replied the man. He then turned towards the kitchen and yelled, 'Rose, what's the name of that restaurant
we went to last night?'

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Yup.

Can I add a minus sign before the first box?

Nope.

Can I add an explanation point?  (e.g. 13, 11, 3!)
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.

What's an "air tag"?
It lets you track whatever it is you put it in--good for most anything from pets to kids backpacks, to, as it turns out, trucks. In this case, he supposedly left one in the truck and found it after it had been stolen, then dealt with the thief.

I thought range was limited by Bluetooth.
Apple claims with an iPhone the range of the tag is about 800 ft. (bluetooth range max). That would get someone within a block or two a ping, though, and driving around looking for that signal would do it. I don't doubt that the owner put in a little legwork and likely had some suspicions about where it had gone.

That one made me laugh.

If I were to guess, I am thinking that its purpose was to make 10 day old horse meat edible at the time.

Well that, and to cover the whip marks.

Are you sure you guys aren't just 'reaching' here?

I'm sure a lot of families in those days didn't have spices like salt, pepper, basil or oregano...or cooking oil.

Having a jar of flavored sauce that keeps without being refrigerated?

@DCPatriot

I seriously doubt anyone but POSSIBLY Eskimos were without salt and pepper at any time past the caveman. Salt was used to keep meat from rotting, preserve animal hides, and most likely several other things I can't remember.

Pepper has probably been used just as long, probably to help cover the taste of rotting food.

Don't know about the others, but salt and pepper were basics since the day they were discovered.

To what end? If it is ganky it will make you sick, and you'll likely huck it up anyway. That has not changed in the last couple hundred years.

I will never understand that idea - That somehow the means of preservation has changed so much. Yes, we have modern nitrites... But powdered celery does the same thing. Bacon and summer sausage is much the same.

What hasn't changed is that if the meat has turned, you throw it out.

@DCPatriot

Of course they did. But they used tallow or bacon grease, preferred to butter or ghee... Do you know why? Because cooking with tallow or bacon grease makes food a thousand times more tasty.

I would wager their food tasted BETTER than yours. And I have had coon cooked across days in a pot over a fire - Let me tell you something - That's really good eating.

5 years or so back I had stones. They took a look and took a photo. There were about 5 dozen.
The largest was about 4 mm. The procedure pulverized the stones and the grains were caught
and removed.

My stones are acid based. You can test them.  I have taken potassium citrate pills and have not
had any pass since. They are painful to pass.

I have no idea who "him" is,but judging from those eyes and that "smile",he needs to abandon everything he has left where she lives, and haul ass to another state if he knows what is good for him.

Maybe even put in for a legal name change.

If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.

But which came first? Kind of a chicken/egg thing.

You'd have to be dumb to eat paint chips, which make you more dumb, but if you were already dumb, you'd just get dumber, and anywhere along that continuum of decline you can trust Government...

He is bloated and swollen from dehydration. Hasn't shaved or showered in weeks. Just like me.

Yeah. We'd be happy even if they where almost naked.
If the guy is not your father or brother, and he is under 55 paying lots of attention to you, then ... yes.
There is a high probability that he wants you naked.

Besides the obvious intended use (not going to give it away)  I used them to hold quarters for the Washateria way way back in the Day.

There were always spares of these around for use, for when you "messed up" a roll.

Actually, one held just about the right charge of calcium carbide for a carbide lamp. We'd each have a dozen or so either in packs or in the pouches of M1 Garand ammo belts on us while crawling around in caves...  They were watertight, for the most part, and that made them ideal.

Fair skin and long nails were considered a sign of wealth. Because those women were obviously not working the fields.
Also, a portly body was attractive in both men and women. It signified wealth (access to plenty of food) and health (sick people lose weight).

Weird ...
You know a deer is tough when it can walk around with a gunshot wound you can see through.
Have seen photos from Civil War and others where people have survived with holes in them.
However, I doubt this deer will last very long. Losing internal body heat like that in winter is not good.

Man, that was me the last year I managed MickeyD's. It got to the point where if I had a customer give me a demonstrable lie and get angry with me threatening to have me fired I would write down the owners name and number and give it to them, unfortunately none followed through they just walked away really confused.

Not making excuses for Boomers, but fifty years ago they were just starting to encase the engine with all sorts of smog crap, hoses and wiring harnesses not too mention fuel injection instead of carburetors.

Yeah. About 20 years ago I showed my nephew the engine in my '41, a nice flathead 6.

He took one look at the single barrel carb topped with an oil bath air cleaner, and the naked (by today's) standards block, and said "Uncle Joe, where's the rest of the engine?"

I just replied, "Son, it's a '41. There was a war on. That's all you got. "

I remember a friend who had a 50s Chevy pickup with the same sort of engine set up - one could almost stand inside the engine compartment, feet on the ground, while the engine was running and not get injured.  Very simple.

This is what the engine compartment on my 63 Studebaker looked like, except mine was this clean, distributor with points, Carter AFB carb and everything easily accessible, oh yeah easy to adjust the valves on.

I have had two 1963 Gran Turismo Hawks, both with the Avanti R1 engine, Power Shift transmission and Twin Traction. They were both hot or so I thought until one night on the 405 I was doing about 130 when an Avanti R2 rolled by at 140+. Those were fun days before the freeway got so crowded.

This one had the 360 engine, but also had a broken motor mount. Just anything more than a very light touch caused the engine to 'roll' just enough to accelerate even more, and I laid rubber across a couple of intersections before I got the touch just right. Wonderful car, and every bit as much a 'chick magnet' as my Harley was.

I remember when they first started the smog crap in California and I had to have a perfectly good radiator hose cut and a thermal delay switch installed and plumbed to my vacuum advance, then they adjusted my carb to run like shit and pot a green silicone 'seal' on the idle screws. First thing we did was shove a BB in the vac hose and then readjusted the carb and re 'sealed' the idle screws with the left over tube of green silicone they left with us. :silly:
Oh did I say it was the garage mechanic who installed the crappy NOx device who said "If it were me as soon as I passed inspection I would...."

Yeah... All that crap don't amount to a row of pins... I like a nice little flat top 350 Chevy with a little bit of cam... And I still think a well tuned simple system does better than one with all that crap on it... MAYBE it has less emissions when running perfectly, but the systems become so complicated that the whole thing running perfectly becomes less and less likely. And nothing throws emissions like a motor that's out of whack.

No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

The people who want to get naked are the very people you never want to see naked, almost every time.
You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.
Rational fear and anger at vicious murderous Islamic terrorists is the same as irrational antisemitism, according to the Leftists

I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.
