If you go to Britain/London/Scotland/Ireland, they will tell you that beer/scotch/whiskey must be served at 'room temperature', you must never pervert the purity with a cube of ice. Which is fine for them. But if you live in Phoenix Arizona where the outside temp is +100F and the inside temp with no air conditioning is not much better, then you are no longer drinking beer/scotch/whiskey you are now drinking a hot toddy. You will beg for a cube of ice.
The term 'room temperature' has a variable meaning.
Living in the British Islands, where the sun is never seen and the average temp is around freezing, of course you want your drink at room temperature. Why not? A 'cold beer' to them is room temperature.
