Hey there @jmyrlefuller  -- Bucs or Chiefs?

Not a football fan.  Born in KS -- so it's Chiefs for me.  I won't be watching -- but I'll be dropping in here to get updates.

Thank you!

I don't really care either way.

Kansas City, well, they're the defending champs. And I prefer the underdog. But Tampa Bay, with Gronkowski, Brady, and Antonio Brown... might as well be the Patriots, and I hate them.

I can't recall a single song The Weeknd sings... which is a first.

I have a general rule to always bet the 'dog, and you can never count Tom Brady out when the championship is on the line... so I say Tampa Bay, with the money line, under.

Thank you @jmyrlefuller for starting this thread. I'm having a few friends over to watch it, the only NFL game I've watched this season. Surprisingly, I've only watched one NBA game this season and it's almost half way through.

Won't be watching the game, especially the Anthem which is usually mangled.  We're invited to a party, so we'll show up, bring our side dish and a bottle of wine, then split.

Hopefully they won't mangle the National Anthem. I agree though, people tend to try to make it "their own" -- LEAVE THE MELODY ALONE!!

I watched only a few minutes of the game, I admit, but had seen warnings about some of the "woke" advertising. Sure enough, Jeep managed to get itself scratched off the list of potential new car purchases in this household.
Quote
The 3 Worst Things About That Terrible Jeep Super Bowl Ad
How could a major corporation not see how propagandistic it comes off to suggest that when Republicans win a national election, that's divisive, but when Democrats win one, that's unifying?
By Mollie Hemingway
February 8, 2021

In a generally weak year for Super Bowl commercials, Jeep’s stood out for being particularly obnoxious and tone-deaf. Called “The Middle,” left-wing political activist and world-famous singer Bruce Springsteen narrated and starred in the ad about how the country has been divided, but now it has a bright future as the “ReUnited States of America.”

While advertisements that appeal to virtues in order to increase sales and profits can work — see Toyota’s beautiful ad about the joy in adopting a child with special needs — this one fell flat and faced mockery and opposition from many viewers. Here are the three main reasons the ad didn’t work.

The Messenger Is Known For Hating Republicans ...

The Images Were All Off ...

The Argument For Unity Was Not Made Well ...

Corporate media, who have ignored or mocked concerns about election integrity despite the widespread sloppiness and rampant mail-in balloting associated with the 2020 election, have cheered on the crackdown of protesters in or near a riot at the nation’s capitol. They did so after spending months defending and contextualizing violent riots from the left that seized cities across the country, attacked federal buildings, killed dozens of Americans, set churches on fire, and terrorized small business owners.

How could a major corporation not see how propagandistic it comes off to suggest that when Republicans win a national election, that’s divisive, but when Democrats win one, that’s unifying? The corporate-approved approach is to paper over disagreement while Democrats hold power while amplifying a full-on #Resistance when Republicans are in power. ...

Needless to say, I didn't watch the halftime show, either.  If any of you did, tell me what you think of this analysis of the performance (found on Facebook):
Quote
Both the Olympics and Super Bowls have had secret occult themes for many many yrs. now.  I always attempt to break them down so here I go:

The lead singer of “The Weekend”*  enters the stage in a high end sports car through Las Vegas, aka Sin City. He is wearing red, symbolizing a totalitarian or satanic rulership. He sits on the wall looking over as a blue angelic figure descends from above that drops below the earth into the netherworld. The backdrop is supposed to represent buildings of a large city, but in reality, they are tombs.

A door opens in the midst filled with blinding light as the singer emerges. Clear masked singers behind each building/tomb have red glowing eyes and are wearing robes which imply demonic entities. Smoke and fire shoots about. They take the clear masks off and are now in white. Wolves in sheep’s clothing. The singer heads back through the door into a mirrored maze of lights singing “I can’t Feel My Face.”

His entourage dancers enter in wearing white head wound bandages stumbling around in chaos and confusion. Their mouths are muzzled as well, just as we all are in this masked society, symbolizing no free speech or voice. Their leader/singer is in the midst of them, therefore they regain Order out of the chaos and exit.

The singer continues into the forefront as the great city behind him goes up in flames with ominous stormy clouds behind it. A huge full moon rises then fades giving no more light. Darkness on the Earth. Or the theme repeated recently by political candidates, “A Dark Winter.”

He emerges from the city, or the great Empire, and a seemingly heavenly light from above illuminates him. The men in the city play their violins in unison. In other words, a well “orchestrated”plan is in place. Onto the field march the men in their wounded head bandages with mouths masked shut in complete obedience. They are all exactly the same, like Star Wars storm troopers, and they are all wearing red, white, and black. They form perfect military rows marching in almost goose-step fashion.

The color theme and marching are Nazi references. Behind them,  the great city on the hill burns red. Red and white emergency light flash as they march onward as to War. The sky images on the screen are swiftly moving storm clouds. This is following the predictive programming of “A Storm is Coming” which has been on alternative media sites for several months now.

The storm troopers all break out into a riot with their leader until he calls them to formation, and he belts out “No one’s around to judge me.” When the lights dim, each has a white light in each hand waving it and dancing ecstatically in celebration as everything around them goes up in smoke and firey explosions. They surround their leader who raises his hands to receive their worship.

This stuff is not some creative accident. It is intentional for those with eyes to see.
*Correction: the name refers to one guy. Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, known professionally as the Weeknd, is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and record producer.

We had the game on here, but I wasn't paying close attention to it (or the commercials). We turned away at halftime, and turned back at the start of the third quarter. When the Bucs scored their fourth touchdown in the third quarter (score 28-9 at that point) I turned over to YouTube and started watching videos.

I was excited for the start of the season back in August, but now I'm thinking I just won't bother to watch next season. The wokeness is part of it, but honestly I don't trust the game outcomes any more. There are (what seem to me) obvious "bad calls" by the officials that "seem" to favor one team over another. That together with "bad playcalling", "oopsie!" fumbles and dropped passes, make it seem (again, to me) like the games are rigged.
America should be run for the benefit of Americans, not for foreigners, not for corporations.

"LIV" (Last year's SB) would go a long way towards explaining the election fiasco....

Anyway, as most of you could probably tell when I stopped posting updates, I lost interest at halftime and went to do laundry.

I did watch the halftime show as I always did. As a performer, The Weeknd was... OK. Professional, smooth and he didn't look like he was trying too hard. The other stuff? Well, I didn't think it worked. The mask thing, I just figured it was a pandemic and something the league required. Of course, I never really cared for his lyrics and only recognized one of his songs (the last one, which ended things kind of abruptly and awkwardly—it took about ten seconds before I realized it was over and there wasn't a finale). Overall, it was mediocre. Not great, not horrible, but mediocre.

Didn't watch the halftime show here, because we haven't watched it for years, because the acts are usually ones we're not familiar with (as it was this year) or the act is one we don't like.  Each year it becomes more obvious that as a white male in my mid-50s, I am not in the NFL's target audience.

Ex-Chiefs RB Larry Johnson Goes Viral Saying The Weeknd’s Super Bowl Halftime Show Was A Satanic Ritual (TWEETS)
 February 8, 2021

If there is somebody that will find something satanic in today’s world, it will most definitely be Larry Johnson.

The former Kansas City Chiefs running back was all eyes and ears to Super Bowl LV and noticed something disturbing with the halftime show.

Johnson took to Twitter and claimed that The Weeknd performed a satanic ritual in front of thousands of people inside Raymond James Stadium and the millions watching at home. ...
