School Board Won't Reverse Fourth-Grader's Suspension for BB Gun Incident During Virtual School

In September, Louisiana's Jefferson Parish Public Schools suspended a 4th grader—Ka'Mauri Harrison—for six days because he allowed a BB gun to briefly appear on his screen during virtual Zoom school. On Friday, the school board declined to remove the suspension from his permanent record, according to local news.

They did change the six-day suspension to a three-day suspension plus three unexcused absences, which was entirely unacceptable to Harrison's father, who stormed out at the end of the lengthy meeting:

The Woodmere Elementary fourth-grader said he was moving the BB gun so his brother didn't trip on it when his teacher saw in during a virtual classroom session.

The Harrisons have argued their home is not an extension of Ka'Mauri's classroom. The school system has stood its ground and refused to change his record.

The Harrisons need to own the homes of every school board member who perpetrated this idiocy on a 10-year-old!

Sadly, Public School Z doesn't give a @#$% if Public School A tries this and gets smacked down by courts. Public School Z will try the same thing, as will Public Schools B-Y. The only chance Educrats will learn to stop this kind of @#$% is if it costs them, personally, a lot of money.

LOL! I don't think we did that, but I'm pretty sure several students' pick-up trucks in the high school parking lot had gun racks, some with guns. I think some students went dove or pheasant hunting after school.

Long after my grade school years, and 2000 miles from where I grew up, it was commonplace to see rifle racks in the back of (often unlocked) pickups in the High School Parking lot. There are precious few hours here after school to go hunting, and there'd be everything from shotguns for pheasant to scoped rifles for deer/antelope, to even early ARs for hunting gophers. If there was a faculty member talking with someone out there they were likely talking firearms or hunting.

Now, no. Now the paranoia is palpable in schools, a product of Leftist fear mongering and hoplophobia and a generation that has been 'counseled' and given medication instead of being taught life skills.

Taught at a rural district up north. About 1/3 of the students (boys and girls) drove trucks. During hunting season most had a rifle or shotgun sitting in the gun rack. This was a relatively poor district and for most of these kids if they did not fill the deer tags it was going to be a skinny Christmas and hungry winter. We helped kids refinish stocks, make new firing pins, replace sights, AND NO ONE SAID A DAMN THING ABOUT IT. Sad to say this was only 25 years ago.
