Yes, it IS tyranny, and tyranny is always best answered right now. Even so - I will not comply, and will point and laugh at those who do. Suckers.

For thee and for me, "self-isolating" comes easily enough for us to laugh at the amateurs.

It's a bullshit quarantine, which is bound to be the case when they quarantine healthy people, leaving the sick to spread their disease around.  It's tyranny, and it's best answered by non-compliance as time wears on.  That's why I say we'll do it, but only for a limited time.

The problem with your theory is that there is no way to know on the surface who is healthy and who is not.

At the risk of being repetitive (which I am, quite deliberately) this is not like anything we’ve ever seen before.  One cannot make comparisons with anything in the past other than 1918, and even that was the flu.

This is not.

In addition, the point of staying home is to lengthen the prep time for hospitals and keep our medical first responders safer.

The more people who abide by the safety standards, the slower the spread of this disease will be.

It’s not really rocket science.

It’s just science.
Character still matters.  It always matters.

I wear a mask as an exercise in liberty and love for others.  To see it as an infringement of liberty is to entirely miss the point.  Be kind.

Well, one guy has apparently exposed much of my town to this virus this past week by visiting half the stores in town. Just what we needed.

Actually, that sounds like the way it often happens.

Well, sorta. Still going to the feed store and the parts houses. Folks got something busted, they need it fixed, even when they're whining and crying and hiding under their beds, and order their dang food delivered...

It's so much bullshit, I don't even know where to start.

Man who almost died from coronavirus tells Fox News how drug backed by Trump saved his life
Rio Giardinieri felt like he was close to death but recovered after taking hydroxychloroquine.
Wed Mar 25, 2020 - 6:35 pm EST

March 25, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) — A 52-year-old man who thought he was going to die as a result of the coronavirus told Laura Ingraham of Fox News that he believes the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine saved his life.

Rio Giardinieri says he had been suffering with a fever for nine days, that his breathing became worse, speaking became difficult, and that he expected to die as a result of the coronavirus.

But Gardinieri decided to request hydroxychloroquine from medics after a friend of his from a prayer line told him about the drug. That friend had seen the drug covered recently on Ingraham’s show.

Hasidic doctor steps up campaign for controversial drug, as states clamp down on prescriptions
Ari FeldmanMarch 27, 2020

Emboldened by overtures from the White House, Dr. Vladimir Zelenko, the Hasidic doctor pushing an unproven treatment for coronavirus, on Friday stepped up his campaign to build support for the controversial regimen, with a YouTube video and an email blast to conservative media and political figures touting his results.

“CONCLUSION — TREAT AS EARLY AND AS AGGRESSIVELY AS POSSIBLE IN THE OUTPATIENT SETTING,” Zelenko wrote in the email, which he said he had sent to Mark Meadows, President Donald Trump’s Chief of Staff; Rudy Giuliani, the president’s special counsel; Aaron Klein, a former campaign adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel and a contributor to the right-wing website Breitbart News; and other conservative media figures and doctors.

He had a similar message in the YouTube video, which had been viewed more than 400 times as of Friday afternoon, as well as shared on Twitter.

JMO but it looked like 2 minutes of class warfare claiming we always had the power to quarantine our economy to keep the undesirables out.  He weaponizes a virus that the rich have a much better chance of surviving than the poor, as the excuse for the Elite led shutdown of our society, when in fact it was implemented by responsible leaders like my President in order to save lives.  I think much less of Molyneux than I did 2 minutes ago.

Dr. Fauci, a man who had no input into the 3rd China-virus bill, was at the signing ceremony yesterday, but House Speaker Pelosi wasn't.  Dr Fauci even spoke : "Thank you Mr. President.  I want to thank everyone involved in this. This is what America is all about. A bi-partisan approach with your leadership to do something sorely needed by the American people."

ouch.

I think it is fascinating that my President, and still your President, Donald J Trump wants exclusive GOP credit for this $2T law.

And parents will demand that the schools be reopened just to get their kids out of the house.

Polio.

1952 polio epidemic (the one that crippled one of my good friends)...... "Of the 57,628 cases reported that year 3,145 died and 21,269 were left with mild to disabling paralysis."

In the entire epidemic in a year, 57, 628 cases.

To date: 53, 520 cases in New York alone............. in a few weeks.

Not the same thing.

We have never seen anything like this in our lifetimes.

NONE of us.

The United States Announces Assistance To Combat the Novel Coronavirus
https://www.state.gov/the-united-states-announces-assistance-to-combat-the-novel-coronavirus/

Press Statement
Michael R. Pompeo, Secretary of State
February 7, 2020

Quote
This week the State Department has facilitated the transportation of nearly 17.8 tons of donated medical supplies to the Chinese people, including masks, gowns, gauze, respirators, and other vital materials.  These donations are a testament to the generosity of the American people.

Today, the United States government is announcing it is prepared to spend up to $100 million in existing funds to assist China and other impacted countries, both directly and through multilateral organizations, to contain and combat the novel coronavirus.  This commitment – along with the hundreds of millions generously donated by the American private sector – demonstrates strong U.S. leadership in response to the outbreak.

This assistance only adds to what the United States has done to strengthen health security programs around the world.  For the last 20 years, the United States through USAID has invested over one billion dollars to strengthen the capacity of more than 25 countries to prevent, detect, and respond to existing and emerging infectious disease threats.  Since 2015, under our commitment to the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA), this support has helped improve surveillance and laboratory systems, risk communication, outbreak response, and address the rising threat of anti-microbial resistance.

The United States is and will remain the world’s most generous donor. We encourage the rest of the world to match our commitment.  Working together, we can have a profound impact to contain this growing threat.

Anyone know what we got for this?

Both statements are true.

No, they are not. There have been plagues that wiped out a third of mankind...
The latest being durng Obama - A swine flu that according to Wikipedia:

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that from April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, there were 60.8 million cases, 274,000 hospitalizations, and 12,469 deaths (0.02% infection fatality rate/Mortality rate) in the United States due to the virus.[117]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_flu_pandemic_in_the_United_States

Hardly memorable. Hardly a peep. Nothing shut down. No quarantine.

And YES, that IS comparable.

NONE of us.

1952 was not the first year that polio appeared on the scene, meaning that there was already some immunity in the general population.  However, your figures do point out casualties of over 24,000 in that year alone.  A 1916 epidemic in New York City alone killed 2,000 and left untold thousands paralyzed.  The response was massive quarantines, the closure of public establishments, and the prohibition of gatherings.  Names and addresses of those infected were published in news outlets, initializing the ostracizing its victims.  By casual observation, you couldn't tell who had it since many cases went undetected and did not result in paralysis.

In the 40's and 50's, polio would kill or paralyze on average HALF A MILLION PEOPLE across the world EVERY YEAR.

So yes, America has faced something like this before, something that has had a longer lived and far more devastating effect than the current epidemic.

Those are final numbers........ and without the appropriate medical response, so the numbers are greater than they would have been with proper isolation.

This virus is nowhere near the peak, so comparative figures are not yet valid.

But I have no doubt that a few of you will continue posting them to underplay the severity of this virus.

For whatever reason..........

My point........... which you missed.......was that this is unprecedented in our lifetimes.  In OUR lifetimes.

I chose 1952 because many of us were alive then, the polio scare was tremendous, and yet the numbers in a couple of weeks with this virus far surpass those numbers.

The numbers of cases and deaths in the Asian flu in 1957 were large (nothing was done to isolate then.... our whole family was very sick and bedridden during that), but all the numbers from that are final numbers.

This hasn't yet peaked, and isn't going away for a long time (a year before a vaccine?), so the numbers in the end are the only valid comparative numbers with anything in the past.

I will repeat what the medical community is saying, over and over again........this is unprecedented in our lifetimes.

Unless you're like Greg Palkot's Dad who is 107?? happy77

New York cholera epidemic in 1832 caused 40% of the population of New York City to flee to the countryside.  For those that remained, 2% of them would die from cholera. Today, that number would come to over 32,000 in Manhattan alone.

Just for my own information, according to Wikipedia, FDR supposedly contacted polio in 1921. So I guess it was around for quite some time last century.

Death rate is far from the only concern here, we don't want hospitals so busy that people who need medical care for other reasons, a broken legs,  tonsils, have to go through a big crowd to get attention.

U.S. military command teams in charge of protecting homeland security are being isolated in the infamous Cheyenne mountain bunker where they will remain 'sealed off' until the coronavirus pandemic passes

Military teams that monitor foreign missile and warplane threats to the United States are isolated at a number of military sites, including Cheyenne Mountain

The Cold War-era bunker is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado

The command took such steps to ensure personnel can monitor the COVID-19 pandemic around the clock as the disease spreads around the world

The military are not immune from the disease and such is the nervousness, those working at the bunker have prepared to seal themselves off for months

Should the staff working at the bunker become ill, there is a third team of high-ranking military officials working another 'secret' location

The Navy revealed they saw several cases appear among the crew of its Nimitz-class aircraft carriers based in the Pacific

FYI, might be something, I've heard this before, my own research backs it up.

Information from Vienna’s laboratory studying COVID-19 say vast majority of people who died had ibuprofen/Advil in their system so do not take it!! Those who recovered did not take ibuprofen so if you have symptoms, take Paracetamol only!!! Looks like this virus thrives on ibuprofen so don’t do it and tell everyone you can!!!

Please pass this information on to everyone in each family I don’t want to miss anyone so share as much as you can. Or copy and paste!

I just spoke with my friend who is a nurse at VGH (Vancouver) and they just learnt that Advil makes the virus 10x worse. Tylenol ONLY for the time being. She said Advil kickstarts the virus into pneumonia.

She also said they are not releasing the correct number of cases on the news and they have patients coming in everyday and some currently on ventilators. Soon they won’t have enough room in the hospitals to treat patients and will have to turn people away. They’ve cancelled all surgeries to use the ORs for available ventilators, but it still won’t be enough.

She also said she found some people in their 40s and 50s who were previously healthy to be on ventilators and having major difficulty breathing because they took Advil.

Also 4 doctors at VGH are now infected and she said she has never seen her doctors so worried before. So please no Advil and stay safe!!!

Death rate is far from the only concern here, we don't want hospitals so busy that people who need medical care for other reasons, a broken legs,  tonsils, have to go through a big crowd to get attention.

Hospitals in certain locations are already overwhelmed.

Some other buildings are being refitted in order to take care of non-contagious patients to alleviate the enormous stress on existing hospitals.  In some areas one hospital is being designated a COVID hospital while others have patients with other medical needs.

So you are right.......... the death rate, whatever it will END UP being, is not the only concern.  Focusing on it and saying this ain't so bad blurs the reality that this is indeed very, very bad.

All of us have the ability to "see" into the past.  It's called 'history'.

And that has no bearing on the statement made about what is happening in OUR lifetime.  That is the reference I made.

And I know history well.  It's just that the medical experts are USING that information to keep us safer today.

And THEY are the people I choose to listen to.

We all know that there have been plagues and diseases in the past that killed many.  Our healthcare experts are working hard to make sure that the damage from this plague is minimized.

Stay safe, Hoodat.  Don't be afraid.
