Too much weed, whites, and wine.

Close. Usually a night like that indicates shine or tequila. Or both.

We are watching the Hulu series “Dopesick”, about Purdue Pharma and their opioid drug OxyContin. I’m sure it’s highly dramatized, but after the BS the pharmaceutical industry has belched out during Covid, I wouldn’t doubt that the series is more true than not.
You're everywhere I go, I am not alone
You call me as Your own to know You and be known.
You are holy!
And I fall down on my knees.
I can feel Your presence here with me.
Suddenly I'm lost within Your beauty,
Caught up in the wonder of Your touch.
Here in this moment I surrender to Your love.

@debrawiest

I have ZERO personal experience with illegal drugs  since around 1982,but still casually know a few people who participate as enthusiastic fans.

From what I have seen and heard from them,I would tend to believe almost anything negative about oxy,and I have never seen the show.

Like with all other drugs, the addiction level is dependent on the chemical makeup of the human taking the drug, but Oxy seems to be a VERY good "persuader" when it comes to habitual abuse.

As with every other drug,it is ALWAYS the human at fault because no drug in history has ever forced or convinced any human to do anything. Drugs are inanimate and have no minds.

Much like the people who use most of them on a daily basis.

Rewatching a beautiful old classic from the 80's ... A masterpiece if you can past the somewhat slow beginning of the movie.

My neighbor who is a nurse also suggested this series to me. I’ll have to watch it.

I’m watching the Beatles documentary on Disney. Finding it fascinating and somewhat sad. Those boys were incredibly young and incredibly talented.
The Beatles are proof that if you get that much talent into one band, creative differences will usually tear you apart.

If you think about it, how many bands keep the same lineup intact for a decade? There's almost always turnover. If not due to disagreements, then self-destructive behavior. Thankfully, other than Yoko, the Beatles didn't really go too deeply into that. All of them had solo success.

It makes you wonder how some of these other bands held their core together for decades on end.

I agree.  Rush might have been one of the few exceptions to that rule.

Another good foreign film from that same period is Jean de Florette.  You may enjoy that one, @Sighlass

Watched something titled "The Hundred Foot Journey" last night.  I give it five popcorns.

Stars Helen Mirren as a haughty owner of a nationally renowned French restaurant who suddenly sees the building just across from her front entrance become a restaurant catering to the Indian culture.

Very nicely done!

I just finished the series.  If you don’t have 6 hours to wade through it, the 3rd episode includes the concert on the rooftop. I was blown away by it.

That is a good one. I saw it when ir first came out on a blind date. (dinner and a movie. This was the movie. If I recall, we had a nice time but never had the second date)

I also recommend “Eat, drink, man, woman”

It’s foreign with subtitles, but like “Babette’s Feast”, it also showcases a lot of food too. This time Chinese.

Last night, I watched "The Last Survivors" from 2014, about a young couple hiding out in central Oregon after an environmental disaster in which no rain had fallen in ten years. It was OK, nothing great...

Tonight, it's "Human Desire" with Glenn Ford, Gloria Grahame and Broderick Crawford, 1954.

I would have never heard of it except for having seen a thread (elsewhere) about movies with trains in them, and this one was mentioned.

It's on YouTube, full-version -- unlike the poster, it's in black & white:

STILL catching up on missed episodes of "Law and Order,SVU"

I only watched the early seasons sporadically,so am now playing "catch up".

Up to Season 10 now,and it's starting to go a lot faster as I just blast by episodes I had already watched.

I'm winding up 2 seasons (20 episodes) of MINDHUNTER.

It's about the F.B.I. forming a department/profiles on SERIAL killers, by interviewing them to find out how they think...they're backgrounds, etc..

Season two, they interview 'Charles Manson' and 'follow' the current on-the-loose BTK (Bind/Torture/Kill) Killer in Kansas.

Terrific casting.  Now on NETFLIX

Seven Stages to Achieve Eternal Bliss -- on Prime
What a weird movie. It is not what I would label a 'good' movie but it is weird enough to make it to a 'watchable' movie. It stayed with me. Do not think I will forget it any time soon. Thought provoking is what the critics would say, I think ...

Just finished 'Don't look up' on NetFlix. Very pretentious movie with a very predictable storyline.
Talk about 'over-produced'. The whole movie could have been a single Twilight Zone episode.

Imagine if you will, a two and a half hour film, with the story of a half hour skit ...
You have just entered ... "The Twilight Zone!"

Right now, I'm watching the old 1980s episodes of  The Price Is Right. (it's on Pluto for the cord-cutters)

Some of the prizes they give out on the show are real conversation pieces...the kind where you say "A player piano? Where did you get that, anyway?" "Well, I won it on The Price Is Right!" Then, yesterday, I saw one of the items up for bids was to tell Bob Barker the spot price for an ounce of gold that morning, with the closest guess without going over winning a one-ounce gold bar. Now that's a challenge and a curveball!

Every so often I'll tune into the original Bill Cullen version on Buzzr (also on Pluto and almost every other free streaming service), which is a totally different experience.

We cut a few channels out of our Comcast channel line up to pay for Paramount+. What a joke trying to deal with Comcast; it's always a nightmare. We wound up subscribing to Paramount through Roku because we kept getting error messages through Comcast.

I spent over an hour on the phone with Comcast once I got through and wound up only getting a few dollars off because Comcast raised their rates again -- they've got it so they don't break down the dollar amounts for cable and internet and the cable 'dude' only kept giving me prices of packages -- I don't use the word hate very often, but I hate Comcast.

Since it's on Netflix, some of the personality descriptions of major players must be taken with a shaker of salt.

I'm trying to get hubby to just get basic cable. We have Roku, Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and probably something else-- seriously -- it's not like he watches more than one channel at a time ... lol

Note to self:  I promise I will never try to negotiate with Comcast ever again.  That is no longer my job! $25.00 is not worth multiple phone calls and spending over an hour on the phone and dealing with high blood pressure (I normally run pretty low).

I swore an oath to myself to never ever ever do business with a cable company ever again.  They all suck.  Comcast.  Charter.  Infinity.  Every single one of them.  They all suck.  Cable companies are plagued with a monopoly mentality.

I currently have U-Verse, but only because it is basically free.  I may be one of the last people on earth that still has a 48VDC land line (which I wish to keep).  So between it, internet, and cell service, if I drop the TV portion, my bill will actually increase.  I like the U-Verse selection.  I get Fox and OAN, the Hitler (History) channel, military history channel, Paramount, IFC(?) the Battlebots channel (?), shows on people who live off the grid like Roamer and Joe, & other stuff my wife watches (mystery shows, Castle, etc.)

If you go with U-verse, the secret is to get the deal now.  Then a couple of months before the contract ends, call them back to negotiate a new deal.  The group that answers those calls have much better leeway to negotiate than the people you get once your 'deal' runs out and your price already got jacked up.

@Hoodat

I will never understand why people are willing to deal with that crap and pay those stoopid  prices, when they can buy a ROKU player for 68 bucks and have literally hundreds of free channels.

Hell,I have several Premium Channels I subscribe to like HBO,and pay less than 100 bucks a month.

My apartment complex has a deal with Comcast. You MUST use Comcast, and no other company. Considering there’s 998 apts in this complex, that’s some good deal Comcast must have made.

My bill is about 100 a month-just basic cable and internet. Then I have a separate account for both Netflix and Prime.

I get what you all are saying about customer service. It’s  9999hair out0000

So I’m attaching a cartoon that I hope makes people laugh. It’s so accurate!

Ok,so HOW does that keep you from cancelling Comcast and just using a ROKU? You still have a telephone line coming in to your apt,and the ROKU operates off your wi-fi.

Your partmint management can do NOTHING to prevent you from doing this unless paying Comcast is a part of your rental/purchase agreement. AFAIK,thee isn't even anyway they can tell you are using a ROKU because it doesn't interfere with your telephone calls.

Sigh, hardware confuses me sometimes

Yes, that's the catch.  You still need internet (though not necessarily cable internet).

The problem with cable is that it is designed for traffic in only one direction.  Upload speeds are great.  But for downloads, not so much.  My church made the mistake of getting cable internet.  The lag in following services online was unbearable.

Occasionally watching Better Off Ted on HULU.
Sexualized very quirky comedy. But yes, it's OK.
Can usually tolerate one or two, sometimes three at a time.
It is not something I could binge watch.

Nah.. It is artificially throttled. At one time I had 100 up from here.

YES... It is best to divide Cable from CableTV for the purpose of this conversation. You DO need the cable for internet. But you may or may not need the CableTV package. In my case, I buy the internet service from the cable company, but I have no CableTV. I don't watch it anyway, and it saves me somewhere between 40 and 50 bucks a month to go without it... not to mention even more for their decoder box that I would have to have on three machines...

You might check with your landlord as to whether you need to carry the basic cabletv package or not, But probably it is built into the rental agreement and you are going to get it whether you want it or not. Apartment dwellers here it is just all built into the rent.

Got an email from Netflix this afternoon which said, "How are you enjoying watching Stargate?". During the time I was watching Stargate. They meant it to be endearing, like we are 'buddies' something like that, but instead it creeped me out to know some autobot was monitoring me in real time. To me it felt like an email someone would get from a stalker.

Yeah, I get one of those emails every time I watch midget porn.
