@catfish1957

You are also delusional if you think that sort of thing was the norm. It may have been the "norm" in the very snall "Church Lady Society" habitats,but get out of those sections of town and into the saloon/barroom sections,and it was a VERY different story.

People have a natural tendency to get nostalgic about "the good old days",but the truth is for most parts of the nation,they didn't exist . People liked to PRETEND they did,but they didn't.  Otherwise,things like child prostitution and labor wouldn't have been daily realities for the children of the poor.

Fully disagree.  Just think....  It took 30 years of cinema to get from zero to the using the word "damn" in a movie (1939).  To  now?  Anythng goes.

I lived it and remember, and we were hardly "Church Lady Status"  Maybe your little corner of the world was more like Deadwood and was different.  But that was not the prevailing verbal morality in America.  I probably didn't hear the "F" word until I was about 9 or 10.  Now?  Find a 9 or 10 year old who probably doesn't use it.
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.

No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

I finally broke down and subscribed to "The Peacock Network,so I could watch "Yellowstone".

I am unimpressed. Seems like nothing more than a version of "Dynasty" set in the remote west. A freaking soap opera with unbelievable characters,like the alcoholic daughter that is SUPPOSED TO BE so smart. Who in their right mind would trust that woman to run a vacuum cleaner,never mind a corporate board?

Still looking for 1883,and can't find it even after subscribing. After Yellowstone,I'm not expecting much from it,though.

Hoping it will get better. I paid for it,so I am going to watch all 4 seasons in the hope that it does.

Me too... Though I am a cousin to em... I can live in the cowboy world up in here, but down by you, probably too much hillbilly in me for polite society. Never going to have that buttoned down Jon Pardi / Randy Travis thing...

Not that it matters to me... You and me will see eye to eye most the time.

I seriously doubt there is too much hillbilly in you as I'm not much on that buttoned down crap either and neither are any of my friends! The only reason those two old pharts I mentioned are wearing that getup is the company provides it for them. And yes! We are mostly in agreement.

I watched a 4 or 5 minute clip of Yellowstone that someone posted on Twitter and was less than impressed. Actually, I found it insufferable.  :shrug:

Naw, I meant no offense... Just like y'all down in the southern desert are highly influenced by Mexican culture (maybe more than you think about), I am influenced by mountain culture and native (mainly Salish) culture.  I am just as likely to be in moccasins or mukluks as I am to be in sh*tkickers.... Just as likely to be wearing a throat patch as a bandana... In the summer time you might miss a lot of it on me... Standard cowboy.... But in the winter, the hillbilly starts to win.   :laugh: Long hair, beard, wool and leather...

It's a curiosity and a conversation I have had with fellers from south of say, Denver - Folks from the Sierras, and folks from Oklahoma and Texas... Never ending difference in te way we bend our hats (or rather, how nature bends em for us).... But still by and large, all the same.  happy77

And none was taken!  I identified with those two old pharts mostly because they are in the same boat as me. Neither one has been on a horse in years and have only memories of what used to be.

Yeah I get that! Hard for me to remember I am supposed to stay on the porch... Except in the mornings... I remember well in the mornings.  Glory days huh? What I wouldn't give to wake up in the morning, shake a loop out and climb up in the saddle and let that horse shake his giggles out before heading up to the high line to start beating cattle down to the roundup... The hardest and best times of my life. Come sit on the porch and I will tell you all about it.  happy77

I just might take you up on that one day soon! It would be fun to compare notes on how things are done up there vs here.

Same for me. The dialogue gets....tedious to say the least. I signed on late to this series and kind of binge watched the first seasons and am not completely impressed at this point. But I will say, that although the writers are adjective deficit, there are a couple of story lines with a good hook I'd like to see the conclusion of. :)

@debrawiest

Couldn't agree more. Anybody that doesn't love that scenery is lacking a soul,and deserves to be committed to city living for life.

BTW,just heard a short clip of somebody singing "Mercy Now" while watching "Yellowstone",and thought that ANYBODY that hasn't heard Mike Farris covering that song has never really heard it,so here it is.

IMNSHO,this guy is insanely talented,and deserves a wider audience. Yeah,he pretty much only sings gospel now,but so what? Gospel is the original "soul music". Don't believe me,ask any Aretha Franklin fan,which is ANYBODY who ever heard her sing.

It's whether or not you are covered in butter-flavored Crisco...

That MAY be possible. I do remember waking up once in a different state than I started drinking in,and wearing clothes I had never even seen before. Don't have any idea what happened,how it happened,or anything else about it to this very day.

I DO remember thinking "This just MIGHT be a first good clue that I need to cut back on my drinking a tad."

She is my favorite character on the show.  I'm going to be very disappointed if Yellowstone ends without a Rip/Beth wedding. An extraordinary wedding and a celebration that the Duttons have once again conquered and prevailed at keeping their land.

@sneakypete

Been there, done that... One time I woke up in the middle of nowhere somewhere south of Lake Couer d'Alene over in Idaho... Late in the fall with snow on the ground... nothing but one coat and my normal clothes... Still had my wallet and keys, my folding knife, my pen knife, some loose change, and a half a can of Copenhagen.

That walk-out was only two days, but it ranks right up there for dang near killing me.
And I still have no idea how I came to be there. Not a clue. My rig was still in Kalispell, at the Four Corners bar. None of my buddies knew what happened. I left with a little hilljilly gal who I know pretty well... After we parted up near Kila... Nothing. Beats me.  :shrug:

I have never been, but I did have a student get arrested for driving a snowmobile buck naked (He was wearing a helmet) down the middle of Main street after a blizzard in Central New York. He was also charged with DWI, which may or may not have contributed to his state of undress and riding the snowmobile in the first place. For the record he told me that human skin will stick to vinyl, even in winter.

Well I would not do anything like that... I am not known for public nudity... Skinny dippin at night down on the river with a lady friend... That sort of thing... Or being forced into public nudity by (surprise!) jealous husbands, or police officials.... You know... normal tales of caution.

Like most of you, I've been watching Yellowstone.
Watched the first two episodes of 1883.
Old TV binge watching:
Frasier, Castle, Psyche, Law and Order SVU.

You're everywhere I go, I am not alone
You call me as Your own to know You and be known.
You are holy!
And I fall down on my knees.
I can feel Your presence here with me.
Suddenly I'm lost within Your beauty,
Caught up in the wonder of Your touch.
Here in this moment I surrender to Your love.

@libertybele

I am shocked that so many of you actually think the 1800's was like the cowboy movies you grew up watching,where no one cursed and all women were considered to be virgins if they weren't married.

The 1800's was full of whores. Hell,most of the women in the west that married and raised families started out as whores. It was one of the few career fields open to women,and women are just like everyone else,they will do what they HAVE to do in order to survive.
The other fact about the West was that there were very few women around. The mail-order bride industry was born out of the complete lack of suitable women in the west, because it was mostly men who were willing to risk going out into the vast unknown.

It's very much true in a few places today, as well. Alaska and most northern states are male-dominated. The female-dominated areas are mostly in the hip cities, urban northeast and the left coast.

And we wonder why relationships are so dysfunctional these days!

Well, no... When it was wild, 'suitable women' were natives. Still largely that way up in the sticks.

Ain't no problem finding a woman in the west. In fact, I would say it is easier to find a good woman in rural settings.

The part in bold is mostly untrue. Women,with rare exceptions,end up dominating most households. Since they give birth to,and for the most part are responsible for raising the young even if they have jobs too,what they say goes.

Oh,they are almost always subtle about it,but make no mistake about it,the women are in charge. For the most part,other than the wimmins libbers,they are subtle about it because that works the best.

And truth to tell,it is probably a good arangement for everyone.

Mother Nature made that arangement,and it's not a good idea to cross her.
Anyone who isn't paranoid in 2021 just isn't thinking clearly!

Started watching Mr. Robot.  It was going great until it slipped into Fight Club.  Working on Season 2.  There is still a plot to be had, so I will continue.

I’m watching the Beatles documentary on Disney. Finding it fascinating and somewhat sad. Those boys were incredibly young and incredibly talented.

@sneakypete

Nothing. Beats me.  :shrug:

Too much weed, whites, and wine.

Mr. Robot is a good show and very culturally famous. Even though it is incredibly unrealistic, it has its moments.

If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.

On New Year's Eve, I'll be watching the original 1960 film "The Time Machine" with Rod Taylor, Yvette Mimieux and Alan Young.

George Pal's best film and one of the best science fiction films made.

December 31st because that's the night that George the time traveler demonstrates his model to his friends, and then makes his own trip in the full-sized model.

If you don't have a source for it, perhaps this could help...
