Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.

We should be making our own drugs here.  Wake up call.

Have they released biological warfare?  Now they are using the drug market to wage more war?  Have to wonder if all those negotiations have driven this.

Tom Cotton believes it originated in the lab.

Were you replying to a different thread?  Reading this I was thinking you might be talking about letting people die?

I also believe that this came out of the Chinese Lab.  But Iran would never blame their Allies in China.

I was referring to your "In Italy they are letting the elderly die" comment. They are overwhelmed. People are dying while they are doing all they can do with the resources available to them was my point. It is a terrible position to be in and shouldn't be written off so lightly as simply a choice.

Just to add another perspective, I think a lot of this breaks down differently between urban, suburban and rural areas. Rural areas are inherently less likely to spread the virus and have less to fear from it. As the population density goes up the likelihood spreading it goes up quickly. The actions needed to slow the spread are very different between these areas. It isn't a one size fits all situation. And trying to apply a one size fits all solution isn't going to go well.

I read on this site, earlier today, that Italians were "dramatic."

I already know that, since I've been married to one for 52 years.

Dramatic ain't a bad thing. BTW my wife's aunt from Italy became chief of anesthesiology at two hospitals in California, after finishing her medical education at USC (her father was a doctor in Italy)

I'l take dramatic, beautiful Italian women any time.

Right. We have 16 people per square mile in my county--no confirmed cases. I guess social distancing would just come naturally if all those kids (currently on spring break) weren't gathered up and redistributed five days a week.

Sure. I haven't watched one second of CNN, and I'm calm.

There's one endpoint for you. How much CNN have you watched since the outbreak started?

All my news has come from here and on the Web. I don't watch any of the TV news. I rarely go to CNN's Web site but will if they have an exclusive of something important that someone else has linked.

Got it.  Yes makes sense.  Long day, sorry.  Letting does seem like the wrong word.  I get it that they are overwhelmed and perhaps you are right they don't have a choice.  Just seems so cold.

I grew weary of commentary crafted with words which implied bias and were inflammatory and/or derogatory delivered in repetitive and impassioned rants long ago. So, frankly, I do not partake ordinarily of television 'news' unless it is something local I can readily put into perspective, and often that, too, is FUBAR, especially identifiable if I have first hand knowledge of the topic or event they are covering. Sad, but true.

I have found that not watching those shows does wonders for my spirit, in that I am far more relaxed.

I don't turn my back on the evils around me, I am aware, I'm just more rational in my evaluation of them without being bludgeoned with panicked rhetoric.

Yeah, but when Nancy was young, she was very attractive. Not bad in her mature years, either—speaking strictly appearances here, of course.

Diamond Princess Mysteries

We had a perfect petri-dish coronavirus disease (COVID-19) experiment with the cruise ship “Diamond Princess”. That’s the cruise ship that ended up in quarantine for a number of weeks after a number of people tested positive for the coronavirus. I got to wondering what the outcome of the experiment was.

So I dug around and found an analysis of the situation, with the catchy title of Estimating the infection and case fatality ratio for COVID-19 using age-adjusted data from the outbreak on the Diamond Princess cruise ship (PDF), so I could see what the outcomes were.

As you might imagine, before they knew it was a problem, the epidemic raged on the ship, with infected crew members cooking and cleaning for the guests, people all eating together, close living quarters, lots of social interaction, and a generally older population. Seems like a perfect situation for an overwhelming majority of the passengers to become infected.

And despite that, some 83% (82.7% – 83.9%) of the passengers never got the disease at all … why?

Just to add another perspective, I think a lot of this breaks down differently between urban, suburban and rural areas. Rural areas are inherently less likely to spread the virus and have less to fear from it. As the population density goes up the likelihood spreading it goes up quickly. The actions needed to slow the spread are very different between these areas. It isn't a one size fits all situation. And trying to apply a one size fits all solution isn't going to go well.
That's why I, living in a rural area, am not scared of this virus directly affecting me.

In the cities, people are inherently in close quarters, precisely the kind of conditions where this virus thrives. There is naturally more space between people in rural areas. You can isolate yourself and still have plenty of space to move around freely, which is also good for psychological health. That's why you see the outbreaks in cities and suburbs: community spread is far easier to pull off.

Why Italy was hit so hard and so fast by COVID-19
Lessons learned from Italy's pandemic as death toll reaches 1,800
Terence McKenna · CBC News · Posted: Mar 16, 2020

...

So why was Italy hit so hard?

There is a debate about why Italy was the first major Western country to be hit, especially since it was among the first to ban flights from China. Some people point to the average age of the population, the oldest in Europe. Some point to the bad air pollution in the northern industrial areas that has caused widespread lung disease.

"In the northern region we have the most polluted air in ... Europe, and this is linked with viral infection, pneumonia infections," Casani said.

As to why COVID-19 spread so quickly once it arrived, he said, "We do not have emergency plans for pandemics. We have it for natural disasters. And, also we were the first, so we were totally unprepared."

Mounk sees this differently. "I think the question of 'Why Italy?' is the most important question and it has a simple answer: No reason at all. The only thing that makes Italy different is that the first couple of [community-transmitted] cases arrived in Italy about 10 days before they arrived in Germany, the United States or Canada. So if other countries aren't going to react in an extreme way right now, they're going to become Italy."

So, maybe in part, it's because Italy was a bit first in line, all things are not equal.

, okay, this lawsuit actually relies on that Dean Koontz book from 1981 (which of course, other members have mentioned a month or so ago. So, as evidence? I don't go along with that but you never know.  And I may not totally understand their lawsuit too.

Filed by Advocate Sudheer Kumar Ojha, the complaint alleges that Jinping intentionally spread the virus amongst Indian population to harm the economy.

Sudheer Kumar Ojha, Complainant
To substantiate his claim, the Complainant has relied upon a book titled 'The Eyes of Darkness' which was published in 1981.

An extract from the book cited by the complainant to support his theory that the Coronavirus stems from a Chinese conspiracy"The Eyes of Darkness", by Dean Koontz

As per the book, a deadly virus named Wuhan 400 was manufactured in a lab in Wuhan, only to be used as a biological weapon.

Not sure about the premise but I would agree, that the main cause of all of this is China certainly.

But the premise that they were first wasn't really true. The first documented case in the U.S. came nine days before the first Italian case.

From 6 to 20 overnight?

Yes, I think Spain is actually getting socked real bad. Also, even if people want to say it is mainly certain groups getting it, those others are still having to use respirators, ICUs,

MEDICAL PERSONNEL, apparently, just  using nurses, etc. is a big deal Doctors, because they have to be careful they don't get infected themselves, I have no idea what it would be like going into a Doctor's office currently and IF they are dressed very heavily so they don't come in very direct contact with you.

U.S. Southern Border Flooded with Nationals from Coronavirus Countries

The United States’ borders have been flooded with thousands of foreign nationals arriving from countries affected by the Wuhan, China-originated coronavirus.

Since October, for example, 1,657 Chinese nationals have been apprehended at the southern border. About 341 of these Chinese nationals sought to enter the U.S. illegally just within the last few months.
