Yesterday:  88,309 cases
Today:      124,335 cases

That's 36,026 more today !!

That's 36,026 who already had it yesterday, but first got tested today.

So?

That’s still 124,000 cases in Western Europe.

That’s a lot of suffering people.

A lot!

Character still matters.  It always matters.

I wear a mask as an exercise in liberty and love for others.  To see it as an infringement of liberty is to entirely miss the point.  Be kind.

Not going to read posted abve now.

According to the Wikipedia info I posted, at that time, about 60 pages ago, patient zero was identified Dec. 1, 2019 and had never been to the  "wet" market.

There was an initial identification by a group of Indian MDs who pointed to several indications of gene insertion in this virus. Preprint, meaning not "peered approved" that has since been pulled. Pointing to HIV insertions.

There has been reports that certain antivirals, quinoline, whatever, are effective against this virus.

DO you people know what quinoline is?

It is a scaffold. DO you know what a scaffold is?

Mentions the bio-weapon treaty too, probably not in play but, we will see.

What a mess and you know, for all intents and purposes, we were pushed into this almost over night (yeah, technically more like a month but it's all been so sudden, my heavens!)

Great links here too, I need to read and not post and yes, I did see some the report by those Indian doctors, not peer reviewed.

And lots to check on quinoline. Good info.

PS to all, this thread is over a hundred pages.... you know, it's fairly tidy, just thinking what might come next.

Wow, @bigheadfred . Awesome!

From your FYI link: https://mmrjournal.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s40779-020-00240-0/figures/1 we get a graphic of COVID-19 in a nutshell. It appears we can COPD to the list of high risk factors with Hypertension, Diabetes, and Cardiovascular Disease.

If Cytopathic Effect (CPE), Cytokine Storm, or sustained inflammatory response are part of the the pathology, then counterintuitively,  immuno suppression at some point may help prevent the sort of pulmonary edema that could be fatal.

I wonder if anyone is looking at Turmeric as an immunosuppressor? If that is the case, and whether a diet high in turmeric (curry powder contains turmeric) provides any enhanced resistance. Do we have any numbers from India?

On that study from India claiming HIV or AIDS was inserted into the virus, I'm not saying this claims it was wrong... but I'd be real cautious with this. I read about, in fact, I posted it but I'd never be able to find it now.

Quote
Quick retraction of a faulty coronavirus paper was a good moment for science
By Ivan Oransky and Adam Marcus    February 3, 2020

As fears of the novel coronavirus 2019-nCoV continued to spread last Friday, an inflammatory new paper appeared on bioRxiv, a preprint server, where scientists post work that hasn’t been vetted.

Titled “Uncanny similarity of unique inserts in the 2019-nCoV spike protein to HIV-1 gp120 and Gag,” the paper claimed to find similarities between the new coronavirus and HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. The use of the word “uncanny” in the title, together with “unlikely to be fortuitous” in the abstract, led some to think that the authors were suggesting the virus had somehow been engineered by humans.

The paper, from academic institutions in New Delhi, India, was critical and alarming, if true. Except that it wasn’t.

The paper was almost immediately withdrawn, but not before plenty of handwringing from researchers who complained that the appearance of such shoddy work on a preprint server without vetting by peer reviewers is precisely why the hoary old model of science publishing is better at keeping junk science out of the literature.

More:  https://www.statnews.com/2020/02/03/retraction-faulty-coronavirus-paper-good-moment-for-science/

Maybe some are experts, I'm not. Just posting followup.

I think I found on bing a few articles on this whole episode, if someone is curious, just websearch something like "Scientists claim AIDS inserted into Coronavirus".

Thanks for the reply. I am taking a relatively large dose of Warfarin so Tumeric is off my diet.

My initial interest in the outbreak had nothing to do with the actual disease factor. It was an indicator to something else.

I read more articles on many subjects that are "peered' reviewed than the MSM. There is a huge amount of information being presented on this forum that are "of no interest", etc. to many. But overall, this is a well-presented forum full of professional people of all walks.

I thank you all for letting me partake. And not shunning me when I VENT.

You are an intelligent man, fred. You challenge your mind rather than let it wallow in the MSM mush.

Sometimes knowing is a burden, especially when it is hard to render proof, or to articulate exactly which synapses tripped in what sequence to produce that conclusion, even though it's right there, and seemingly obvious.

Now, after all these years,  I feel for the PhD in math who intuitively skips steps on the board and then has a hard time going back and filling each and every one in for those who don't make those same leaps.
And sometimes, those leaps, because of flaws in starting point or misdirection, miss their mark. No one is perfect, especially me.

I am glad you are here. I understand venting. I wait until I am the only one home.

You said, "Here's what I posted ... sorry for rocking your world."

Bob's son is a Captain Pilot for United Airlines.  I know more about United Airlines than you do as he keeps us posted every day.  He doesn't know if he will be laid-off.  He has cancelled TV reception at their home (He owns a horse farm), and cancelled auto insurance on a car they are not driving now.  Captains may be demoted to regular pilot status with the cut in pay.  No pilot/Captain knows what will happen next.

Could all airlines in the US shut down?  If no one is flying, no plane is going up.

I don't know a thing about Bob or his son ... I do know in spite of the rough times ahead the airlines and their employees will survive this through a combination of union and federal interventions.

There's really no need to stoke the flames of fear...there's enough of this going around.  This might be a good time for you to offer financial assistance to Bob's son .... and remind him to keep the faith.   Both will be returned to you exponentially.  happy77

3/18 to 3/19, what a jump.
Realize that there is a lag: you don't get tested the moment you get infected. You factor in the incubation period, plus the time to obtain and then process the test, and you're still dealing with infections that happened nearly two weeks ago—before any restrictions were put in place.

My concern, and perhaps biggest fear of any of this, is: what if we don't start seeing any improvement in the numbers within a few days? If social distancing doesn't work, then what?

My biggest hope is that these measures halt the virus from spreading in areas where it has very few cases and that, sometime next month, we can get some semblance of normality back.

Sitting at home and watching Netflix for a while sounds appealing, but not for months at a time! Social distancing is not a permanent solution to this.

Nevada's governor orders all non-essential business to close

Days after Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak shut down gambling in the state and asked non-essential businesses to close, he turned that into an order aimed at slowing the spread of the coronavirus.

"Previously, I asked nonessential businesses to close, but this moment now demands more,” Sisolak said in a statement Friday. "Today, I directed ALL nonessential businesses to close. I repeat. If you are NOT an essential business, I am using my power as Governor under an emergency declaration to order you to close."

The governor on Tuesday ordered that all gaming machines, table games and other related equipment to close. He said non-essential businesses should close. He said this week that grocery stores, banks, pharmacies, hardware stores, gas stations and similar services would remain open.

The order lasts until April 16.

Off topic, that apartment is at least 2-3x  as big as mine if more and triple the closet space,:)
IKR?  What is a walk in closet?  Wouldn't you smush up your clothes if you did that?

It is something that every woman fantasizes about.

Christian Siriano making face masks for medical workers battling coronavirus
By Carlos Greer
March 20, 2020 | 1:50pm

Christian Siriano has stepped up to provide face masks to medical workers fighting coronavirus, after Governor Andrew Cuomo offered funding to businesses who can help out with the low supply.

“If @NYGovCuomo says we need masks my team will help make some. I have a full sewing team still on staff working from home that can help,” Siriano tweeted on Friday.  ...
NY Post.

Seriously, some hospitals are welcoming homemade masks. After all, they used to use cloth facemasks and just wash them after use. If you can sew, get to work!   Here's a pattern.

If nothing else, the homemade masks may be used by non-medical personnel, freeing up the commercially made ones for doctors, nurses, et al.

Seriously. I have done cabinetry work in Jackson's Hole, Whyowing that are Jack and Jill's with some high dollar imported European "smoked" plywood with the cost of the product scary enough you don't even want to touch the shit. And there are all these smart devices to hide, show, and parade. We did one that was a three-story tenement with the closets/bathrooms  upstairs. All done by designers. I happened to be one of the first out when the actual owners showed. How to say this politely? The woman says I ain't climbing no uh stairs to pee.

Can't say I could blame her. Didn't bother me to piss out any window.

apology

Didn't mean a thread Hi Jack or Jill

Ready, but no patients yet.

That’s what hospitals do.  Prepare.

Ohio hospitals are contacting hotels and nursing homes to use as wings to transfer non - contagious patients to in order to make room in case there are large numbers of contagious patients.

Elective surgeries are being postponed to keep medical staffs available.

There are already cluster cases in nursing homes where medical personnel are strained and at risk.

The Ohio National Guard is available to set up tents for triage.

That’s because the medical community is smart enough to take this pandemic seriously.

They aren’t just sitting at home pretending it isn’t happening.  They’re on the front lines of this unprecedented (in our lifetimes) battle, which is still getting worse and a long time from getting better.

I thank God that the people who count (scientists, the medical community) are taking this pandemic seriously.
Character still matters.  It always matters.

Absolutely: the more we can expand capacity (and develop/approve treatments), the less the curve has to be "flattened" and the shorter this epidemic will end up.

Let's hope and pray that we see some results by Easter. I'm hoping even more that we see the social distancing measures that began last week start to show up and new cases start to plateau in the next few days.

Be patient.

haha

In the worldview.

Be positive, the communists will surely kill at least twice as many people as the last century . Statistically. hahaha

2193 people died of corona in China. But 4,878,313 died of old age. They were sick anyway. 5,712,435 died of malnutrition. And 4,543,936 died of dishysteria.

I think the states who were ahead of the curve in putting restrictions in place more than a week ago will have the curve flatten earlier.

When I see the enormous upswing of cases in New York and particularly NYC where “leaders” ignored the threat I am more concerned that the worst of this will be prolonged.

I feel like NYC will end up being another Wuhan. There will be hotspots that will go on for months, unless the weather/UV issue indeed works and/or we get treatments approved that substantially shorten hospital stays. But the rest of the country will eventually have to get back to work.

I'll note that, other than a few troublemakers, New Yorkers have been particularly urgent and cooperative in regard to doing what it takes to quash this bug. You see the empty subways and Times Square pics. So that plays into our benefit.

Being in a state and city led by two Italians doesn't play to our benefit.

As do I.  It should be taken seriously.  But there is a huge difference between gravity and hysteria.
