Former Iranian ambassador to Syria Hossein Sheikholeslam, 68, died on Thursday after contracting coronavirus earlier in the week, according to Radio Farda.

Sheikholeslam tested positive for the virus two days prior and was taken to a local hospital in Tehran where all infected Iranian officials are currently being treated. It is reported that 8% of Iranian members of parliament are infected with the disease.

This won't tell you exactly since the last demographic for flu is >65, but from what I remember the >80 age Mortality is I think somewhere between 1.5-2%

I'm worried about my parents. My dad will be 80 this year and my mom will be 77.

Worried just a tad myself, I am over 60.  We are curtailing our outside contact, shopping late a night at Walmart for supplies, with a pocket full of clorox wipes in tow.  I know the fatality risk is pretty low, but no need to take unnecssary risks.

OTOH, based on what I am seeing, if I was 25, the only precaution I'd be taking is making sure I didn't infect anyone else.

Earlier, it emerged that a D.C. man in his 50s had been hospitalized with COVID-19, the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, but Trump said he was not worried about the disease's proximity to the White House.

NEW YORK — When I arrived at New York’s JFK Airport on Thursday after spending a few days outside a coronavirus hot zone in Italy, I was expecting a shakedown: a temperature check at customs and some questions about where exactly in the region I’d been and if I had come into contact with any sick people during my stay.

Instead, I breezed right through security, faster than any other time I can remember.

The lack of precautions was jarring considering where I’d just been. I had been on a reporting trip to the Lombardy region of Italy, the epicenter of that country's coronavirus outbreak. According to the Italian government, of the 4,636 people in the country who’ve contracted the virus, around half got it in Lombardy. And while I didn't go inside the exclusion zone, or in any way come in contact with anyone exposed, the mere fact that I'd been to Lombardy should have raised a red flag.

Well, I am not scared but concerned.  Two people in the county that I reside in have tested positive for the corona; one has died, the other has been hospitalized -- so the death toll in my country right now is 50%.  Two counties north of here, have 3 confirmed cases and several quarantined.

The flu has hit this area hard and now with this additional virus in my county, I am not going out unless absolutely necessary. We prepped a long time ago with food and paper goods, I went out when cases of coronavirus were reported in the U.S and bought extra Clorox wipes, Clorox and hand sanitizer.

Unfortunately, we had out of town guests this weekend and previous weekend from several different parts of the country -- I washed the counters down, sanitized and cleaned the bathroom and sanitized all the door knobs when they left. Two family members from different states were coughing, congested and had a runny nose.  They claimed it was allergies.  Really?  Thanks. That's all we need.  Both hubby and I aren't in the best health.

This virus is now in my area.     278 people in FL are currently being monitored.  Looks like Florida even with their very warm temperatures seems to have the potential right now for significantly more cases than the rest of the U.S.

I spent thirty years preparing for a crisis with water, dry food, etc. Last dec we moved to a new town and have been renting a tiny cottage pending finding a new home. No supplies now.

Obviously this is personal.

Well, I reside in SWFL and it is hot and humid.  Our temps have already been in the '80's for a couple of days in the past couple of weeks and though cases of the flu virus have decreased, corona is slowly creeping in, with 278 possible cases.  Entrances to the ER have been slowed in order to question whether or not a person could potentially have the virus -- one hospital just north of here has called in a Hazmat unit.  We have two cases in my county, one died and 70 medical personnel being evaluated.

Also, a university just south of me brought back students and faculty early from Italy -- they are under self quarantine.  Where are they going to go?  Back to their home states?  The dorms?  This is absurd.  They should have never let them go in the first place.  Of course, the liberal logic took over.

So -- not so sure about the moist warm temperatures killing this virus.  I am doubtful.

In order to curb the spread of COVID-19, many countries have implemented strict screening procedures that have denied port entry rights to ships and prevented passengers from disembarking.  In some cases, local authorities have permitted disembarkation but subjected passengers to local quarantine procedures.  While the U.S. government has evacuated some cruise ship passengers in recent weeks, repatriation flights should not be relied upon as an option for U.S. citizens under the potential risk of quarantine by local authorities. 

This is a fluid situation.  CDC notes that older adults and travelers with underlying health issues should avoid situations that put them at increased risk for more severe disease.  This entails avoiding crowded places, avoiding non-essential travel such as long plane trips, and especially avoiding embarking on cruise ships.  Passengers with plans to travel by cruise ship should contact their cruise line companies directly for further information and continue to monitor the Travel.state.gov website and see the latest information from the CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/quarantine/cruise/index.html.

The Coronavirus is here and the first thing to do is to take reasonable precautions to prevent infection starting with the simple step of declining to shake hands with everyone. Just say NO!!

But at home you do need to be reasonably ready for the possibility that you may be quarantined yourself or that your city/town might be isolated for as much as eight weeks.

My own advice and how my family has already prepared is simple: Buy what you need for up to eight weeks of isolation but only buy those non-perishable foods, toiletries, and etc, that you were going to use anyway.

Don't go buying a 50 pound bag of rice if you don't eat rice. Ditto with beans or other such dry goods.

Only buy what you were going to use anyway but just get enough to last you up to eight weeks.

Then after this thing blows over you can just use up the extra supplies until they get down to your normal level of such things.

Oh, and I assume you're ALWAYS buying ammunition so I'm just taking that one for granted!
