And the original article in Chinese though, the bing translator was able to bring it up in English if one really wanted to read it, I did "simple Chinese":  http://www.xinhuanet.com/2020-03/04/c_1125660473.htm

And this is why, we don't want China to have so much dominance.

Right... China doesn't have enough medical resources to fight what's going on there now. I'm supposed to believe they have plenty of extra materials to export to "save" the US. Due to a virus they released on the world. Just attempted face saving bluster.

Do you have a source for this? They may be short of hospital beds and even hospitals but I'm not sure they have a pharmaceutical shortage. This was covered pages ago and a Senator even said this.

U.S. Dependence on Pharmaceutical Products From China

Last month, the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission held a hearing on the United States’ growing reliance on China's pharmaceutical products. The topic reminded me of a spirited discussion described in Bob Woodward’s book, Fear: Trump in the White House. In the discussion, Gary Cohn, then chief economic advisor to President Trump, argued against a trade war with China by invoking a Department of Commerce study that found that 97 percent of all antibiotics in the United States came from China. “If you’re the Chinese and you want to really just destroy us, just stop sending us antibiotics,” he said.

Expert Warns Congress About U.S. Dependency on China for Medicine
By Brad Jones
September 18, 2019

As tension mounts between the world’s two largest economic powers, the United States and China, experts warn that the most populous nation on the globe virtually holds the key to America’s medicine cabinet.

Ninety percent of prescriptions in the U.S. are filled with generic drugs, and China dominates the industry that provides the necessary active pharmaceutical ingredients to drug manufacturers.

“This is an untold story and it has huge implications for our health and security,” Rosemary Gibson, senior advisor at The Hastings Center, told The Epoch Times

https://www.theepochtimes.com/expert-warns-congress-about-u-s-dependency-on-china-for-medicine_3082132.html

This has been ALL OVER THE NEWS.

I was honest and I said, maybe that means mainly simple drugs, aspirin, painkillers but the data is certainly there.

America too dependent on China for its medicine, experts warn
By Bryan Llenas | Fox News

Experts are warning America has become too dependent on China for its medicine -- everything from painkillers, to antibiotics, and even aspirin can all be sourced back to a country the Department of Defense considers an adversary.

The Food and Drug Administration estimates that at least 80 percent of the active ingredients found in all of America's medicines come from abroad – primarily China.

"Imagine if China turned off that spigot," said Rosemary Gibson, author of "China RX: The Risks of America's Dependence on China for Medicine." "China's aim is to become the global pharmacy to the world -- it says that. It wants to disrupt, to dominate, and displace American and other Western companies."

The articles are endless really.

Unrelated, I see Cliff Kincaid has posted another editorial on this topic, tin foil or not, interesting reading:

Quote
Is the coronavirus China's revenge on Trump?

By Cliff Kincaid
March 4, 2020

In his 1968 non-fiction blockbuster, The Biological Time Bomb, Gordon Rattray Taylor wrote about the prospect of germ warfare in the context of "undeclared war." He explained, "In current thinking the best way to wage war is to wage it without your enemy even being aware that it is happening." He was predicting the use of infectious diseases to cripple a nation.

The current war, however, is out in the open.

Looking at the economic damage being inflicted on the United States and the world, one cannot dismiss the possibility that the rapidly-spreading coronavirus is China's revenge on America for President Trump's trade war. The virus has the potential impact to cause a major economic recession and sabotage President Trump's reelection effort. Health emergencies are being declared around the country as the number of coronavirus cases increase. The interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve is an indication of desperation.

Seems possible if not plausible.  Cliff links to that prior book, "Biological Time Bomb"...   https://www.amazon.com/BIOLOGICAL-TIME-GORDON-RATTRAY-TAYLOR/dp/0500010463

They have massive test and mask shortages and have to also have shortages of all the antiviral drugs they use to treat this.

That report's claim is the Chinese virus is going to do major damage to the US if they cut off supplies used to fight it. China may well supply 80% of the base ingredients to many different drugs. But the list of drugs to fight this virus is short and the vast majority of those other drugs are not related to this fight. That short list of drugs has to already be fully consumed by Chinese demand.

So... today I went to my local Jimmy John's to pick up a couple of subs for lunch.  The lady ahead of me was taking her sweet time, then she went to get her drinks and started walking back towards me.  I noticed she had on a mask; however, she had the mask across her mouth and chin and left her nose completely exposed ... is it me, or was the way she was wearing her mask completely useless??

Only a little more useless than wearing correctly. The virus is smaller than an N95 mask filters and those are the higher grade more expensive ones. Likely the only good a mask does is if the wearer is sick and coughing. That should reduce the risk to others.

'Germ-fest' party preceded deadly nursing home outbreak

By BERNARD CONDON and CARLA K. JOHNSON, Associated Press 57 mins ago

KIRKLAND, Wash. (AP) — In the days before the Life Care Center nursing home became ground zero for coronavirus deaths in the U.S., there were few signs it was girding against an illness spreading rapidly around the world.

Visitors came in as they always did, sometimes without signing in. Staffers had only recently begun wearing face masks, but the frail residents and those who came to see them were not asked to do so. And organized events went on as planned, including a purple-and-gold-festooned Mardi Gras party last week, where dozens of residents and visitors packed into a common room, passed plates of sausage, rice and king cake, and sang as a Dixieland band played “When the Saints Go Marching In.”

“We were all eating, drinking, singing and clapping to the music,” said Pat McCauley, who was there visiting a friend. “In hindsight, it was a real germ-fest.”

That was just three days before last Saturday’s announcement that a Life Care health care worker in her 40s and a resident in her 70s had been diagnosed with the new virus. The news would be followed over the next few days by the first resident deaths: two men in their 70s, a woman in her 70s and a woman in her 80s.

I will tell you how a new virus emerges from China and spreads around the world - I wrote about this in my book, "Emergencies Happen!  Be Prepared Now!".

I was in China and saw how it happens; not long after I got home, another new virus was in China and they did extensive research and found what I already knew due to seeing the possibility.  They could have saved a lot of money if they had called me - I would have told them - wild birds/ducks/chickens/sickness/deaths.

I was in the Chinese countryside where solid white Pekin Ducks are raised.  They live in the entire open countryside (not in pens or coops) - as far as you can see, it looks like snow covers the land.  These ducks have free roam walking among the people.  Went to an open market - the ducks were walking among us and there were dead ducks and dead chickens hanging up on wires for sale.

This is what happens and what their researchers found:
1.  Wild diseased birds land on the ducks and spread the new virus to the ducks, where they, unknowingly,
2. infect chickens on farms as they mingle among the chickens.
3.  The farmers kill their chickens for family food, handle the dead chickens, getting the virus all over the farmer cooks, who spread the virus to the family members,
4.  who spread it to everyone with whom they come in contact so the virial disease infects others.
5.  Someone infected travels by air, spreads it to passengers who spread it when they leave the plane, and continue to infect others in the country where they now are.
6.  At the end of the research for this virus, they now know the ducks must be killed to stop the spread of the virus.  They killed all ducks where disease was.

So, now, today, there is a new virus.  Can't kill all wild birds, so, I believe thousands/to millions of Pekin Ducts are going to be killed again.  It is also possible that mosquitoes bite the wild birds, carry the virus, and then bite Pekin Ducks.

Advice: If you fly to somewhere, do not use the first bathroom available when you get off the plane.  People tend to go to the first one so they can have more privacy than on the plane and anyone sick is for sure going to that one and they will leave virus or bacteria in that bathroom.  Wait until you get to another bathroom away from the first one.  When you have finished using the potty, do not touch your face until after you wash your hands well with provided soap and water.  After that, if you have a bottle or sheet of hand sanitizer, use it when out of the bathroom.

I can show you how it happens too.  Watch the video.

Drudge Report had this up and this is from "The Week",

China's coronavirus recovery is 'all fake,' whistleblowers and residents claim
Kathryn Krawczyk
2:13 p.m.

China's claims of how it's handling coronavirus recovery should be taken with more than a few grains of salt.

Even before COVID-19 became a global crisis, Chinese leaders had been criticized for their handling of the situation and lack of transparency about the disease's progression. Things now look like they're on the upswing, and businesses even appear to be headed back to work — but whistleblowers and local officials tell Caixan that's just a carefully crafted ruse.

Beijing has spent much of the outbreak pushing districts to carry on business as usual, with some local governments subsidizing electricity costs and even installing mandatory productivity quotas. Zhejiang, an province east of the epicenter city of Wuhan, claimed as of Feb. 24 it had restored 98.6 percent of its pre-coronavirus work capacity.

But civil servants tell Caixan that businesses are actually faking these numbers. Beijing had started checking Zhejiang businesses' electricity consumption levels, so district officials ordered the companies to start leaving their lights and machinery on all day to drive the numbers up, one civil servant said. Businesses have reportedly falsified staff attendance logs as well — they "would rather waste a small amount of money on power than irritate local officials," Caixan writes.

These cleaners kill coronavirus: Lysol, Clorox, Purell products make EPA's disinfectants list

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has released a list of disinfectants to protect against the spread of the coronavirus.

According to the EPA, products on the list have "qualified for use against COVID-19" through the agency's Emerging Viral Pathogen program where manufacturers provide the EPA with data that "shows their products are effective against harder-to-kill viruses."

Coronaviruses are what are called enveloped viruses, "meaning they are one of the easiest types of viruses to kill with the appropriate disinfectant product," the EPA says.

“Using the correct disinfectant is an important part of preventing and reducing the spread of illnesses along with other critical aspects such as hand washing,” EPA administrator Andrew Wheeler said in a news release. “EPA is providing this important information in a public and transparent manner on disinfectant products to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.”

No way would I fly or go on a cruise ship right now.

Should I cancel my flight? Will recirculated air on a plane spread coronavirus? Here’s what you need to know before traveling

Judi LiVigni was supposed to fly from New York to San Diego last week to visit her brother, who she usually sees only once a year. But the day of her flight, she chose to cancel her trip because of concerns regarding the coronavirus outbreak. LiVigni, a 51-year-old registered dietician who lives on Long Island, had planned a quick weekend getaway, but doubts were swirling in her mind as new cases of COVID-19 were being confirmed on the West Coast.

Before her flight, she headed to a pharmacy to pick up hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes for her trip. She decided to ask the pharmacist for advice as to whether or not she should travel. “She tells me that she cancelled her upcoming flight, that’s all I needed to hear,” LiVigni said. “I decided I did not want to be strapped into a seat for six hours next to a potentially infected human.”

The outbreak is a dream come true for criminals who will use it as basis for email attacks designed to snag personal information, steal money and infect computers with malware.

Malicious email linked to the coronavirus first appeared in early February, making it one of the first big phishing campaigns of the year.

Do any of you know what HIV is?  Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome.

This virus isn't influenza. It is a genetically enhanced Novel Coronavirus with HIV insertions.

So much information. So much misinterpretation. Etc.

Here is my main point. The question of the incubation period and mutation--reinfection. This virus seems to kill more people in that category of immune-deficient. In the simplest terms say I contract covid, but I am only 20 years old. I feel like I have the flu, but I get over it. In the meantime, I go visit my grandparents, and they later die of covid. I go to their funeral. I am around other people who have the flu. I contract the flu.  In that immune distressed state I 'get' pneumonia (covid) which I don't have enough immunity too, yet, and die of complications related to the flu.

I've seen reports of the incubation period from 14-24 days and possible reinfection.  Who knows as there are conflicting reports out there.  What we do know is that this is an additional illness that we need to deal with that is easily spread much like the flu but with a higher mortality rate.

China played a very dangerous game by downplaying this virus and not reporting accurate stats.  The rest of the world is now going to pay the price.

White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow claims coronavirus is 'contained,' says Americans should 'stay at work'
March 6, 2020

President Trump's economic adviser Larry Kudlow is continuing to claim the COVID-19 coronavirus is "contained" as the number of cases in the United States passes 230 across 21 states.

Kudlow in an interview with CNBC on Friday said he will "argue" the new virus has been "contained" in the U.S., repeating the assertion he made last week as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was warning that the new virus could soon severely disrupt everyday life.

"We don't actually know what the magnitude of the virus is going to be, although frankly, so far, it looks relatively contained," Kudlow told CNBC on Friday. "The vast majority of Americans are not at risk of this virus."

Kudlow also said "America should stay at work," arguing that the private sector is "going to solve this disease" and again reiterating, "I will still argue to you that this is contained. It can't be airtight, but ... in a relative sense, relative to our population, relative to ordinary flus ... I think it is relatively contained.

Remember this past week where Trump said something like "go to work" about this, it sounds a bit like he was listening to Kudlow.

China is engaging in full on revisionism now. There are essays all over the state run news agencies not only declaring they're Corona Virus free, but claiming the disease is now being re-introduced into China because of the ineptitude of OTHER countries in not doing as great a job as they have in containing it. China the victim.

Major General Chen Wei:

Who is Chen Wei? Top Chinese epidemiologist from Wuhan lab injects untested coronavirus vaccine to prove loyalty to PLA
Johnlee Varghese

Chen Wei, a leading Chinese epidemiologist and a major-general in China's People's Liberation Army, has created quite a stir on Weibo by her radical approach.

Major General Wei it is reported that injected herself and her six-member team with an untested coronavirus vaccine, which many on the Internet see as a move to prove loyalty to the People's Liberation Army.

The research team led by Major General Chen Wei, who is a veteran in fighting SARS and Ebola achieved a major breakthrough in developing a vaccine to fight the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the Chinese state media reported on Tuesday.

I think the virus looks very suspicious. I'm certainly not endorsing this point of view, just posting:

U.S.-Chinese Distrust Is Inviting Dangerous Coronavirus Conspiracy Theories
Yanzhong Huang

...

From the beginning of the outbreak, the public was informed that the disease originated with human exposure to a virus carried by wild animals. But the suddenness and mystery of the bug’s appearance left fertile ground for speculation, and soon enough, online sources began to advance the claim that the virus was genetically engineered. An unpublished paper authored by Indian scientists seemed to bolster this notion by suggesting that the virus’s protein sequence included elements of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. Although the authors soon voluntarily withdrew the paper, the proposed linkage caught the attention of websites such as Zero Hedge, which claimed that the novel coronavirus was weaponized by Chinese scientists. Speaking on Fox News, Tom Cotton, the Republican senator from Arkansas, suggested that it could not be ruled out that the virus originated in a lab in Wuhan that is used to handle the most dangerous pathogens.

Zero Hedge has been barred from Twitter, but Chinese social media abounds with conjecture that the virus was engineered by the United States as an agent of biological warfare against China. One widely shared conspiracy theory suggests that American soldiers participating in the 2019 Military World Games in Wuhan deliberately shed the virus at the Hunan Seafood Market. Contending that “a new type of biological warfare is coming,” a retired People’s Liberation Army general called for building a permanent biodefense force in China.

The suddenness and mystery of the bug’s appearance left fertile ground for speculation.

Police-Enforced Quarantine Hits California Neighborhood – Residents Ordered to Stay Inside Due to Coronavirus

Sacramento police ordered all residents in a California neighborhood to stay inside on Thursday due to a coronavirus death in the area.

The local health department issued a statement after the police presence in the area.

This is a frightening development.

The Foreign Affairs essay you linked does seem to implicate poor Chinese 'biosecurity' as the culprit.

From that link:

Since coronaviruses are zoonotic, which is to say that they jump from animals to humans, scientists believe that they have an animal origin. Most agree that bats are the natural reservoir host for the virus, although snakes for a time were also suspected. Scientists conjecture that pangolins—widely considered a delicacy in China—may be the intermediate host to pass the novel virus to humans. Overall, they are inclined to view the outbreak as a problem of zoonotic infection transmitted from wild animals to humans. While the virus was indeed found in people associated with a wet market (where live animals were sold and slaughtered) as well as in the market environment, some of the early cases were in people who had not visited the market, suggesting that the jumping of species may have occurred elsewhere or earlier.

Another, less supported hypothesis views the outbreak as the result of a biosafety accident in which the coronavirus leaked out from a lab where scientists failed to follow proper decontamination protocol. Supporters of this theory point to the seemingly overwhelming circumstantial evidence that connects the outbreak to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which also houses China’s only biosafety level 4 (BSL-4) lab, the highest level of biosafety precautions. They noted that Dr. Shi Zhengli, a researcher in the lab who has acquired the nickname “Batwoman,” has been actively hunting down the coronavirus and proving that bats are natural reservoirs for SARS-like coronaviruses. Shi has flatly denied that the institute was the source of the novel coronavirus, which she said was rather “nature punishing the human race for keeping uncivilized living habits.”

Other Chinese social media posts focused on the credentials of the director general of the institute, Wang Yanyi. A widely shared post allegedly written by Rao Yi, a leading Chinese biologist, said Wang had a weak academic background and ascended to her current post through nepotism. On February 17, one post accused Wang of flouting the biosafety rules and selling laboratory animals to wet markets for profit. Another study, conducted by the South China University of Technology, concluded that the coronavirus “probably” originated in the Wuhan Center for Disease Control and Prevention, which is just 280 meters away from the Hunan Seafood Market. The study mentioned that bats linked to coronavirus once attacked a researcher, who had to be self-quarantined because “blood of a bat shot on his skin.” The paper was later removed from ResearchGate, a commercial social-networking site for scientists and researchers to share papers. Thus far, no scientists have confirmed or refuted the paper’s findings.

I posted two article links up thread about the origin of this virus.

Maybe I posted this here or on a related thread. There is an actual swine virus that is killing over 50% of the world's pigs.

I looked at the "pork bellies" futures. The U.S. pork market is strong. Reactioned to the demise of pigs. China consumes around 50% of the entire planet's pork production. And the U.S. cod fishery season is closed for 2020. OH MY COD!

China's approach to this swine flu was FUMTU, even for them. China's Communist Party will gladly eliminate all those pesky peasants. WORLDWIDE.

I buy meats in bulk. Chicken breasts, full pork loins, ground beef., etc.  I 'always' have around six months of supply of staple foods. Dry items, beans, rice, flour...2 years. Yeah. That is the Mormon in me.

I gotta go.

This is all very relevant, in fact, when this flu first started, I'd heard about the swine flu so, I thought what we were seeing was related to that. NO. And the very first post is about the swine flu.

About a quarter of all pigs in the world were knocked out with the swine flu, one woman flew into O'Hare airport with a ham sandwich from China and it was confiscated.

Okay, "some" stores, not all. Still.  And for the record, they are talking mainly about the West coast.

For the most part, right now, I am a bit weary of getting prepared food from say some of the chain restaurants. That seems a way this could spread without naming any particular one. Probably all of them.

Coronavirus live updates: New York declares emergency; Italy to lock down Milan area

3:52 pm: Italy to lock down Lombardy and 11 provinces

The Italian government plans to lock down travel in and out of hard-hit Lombardy due to the coronavirus, according to a draft decree. Lombardy is a region of 10 million in northern Italy which is home to Milan, the nation’s financial hub.

The Italian government also plans travel lockdowns in 11 provinces, including Modena, Parma, Piacenza, Reggio nell’Emilia, Rimini, Pesaro and Urbino, Venice, Padua, Treviso, Asti and Alessandria.

According to the draft decree, people should “absolutely avoid” travel to these areas except in emergency situations.

Cuomo declares state of emergency in New York as state coronavirus cases soar to 76

Gov. Cuomo declared a state of emergency Saturday to deal with the worsening coronavirus crisis, as the number of cases jumped to 11 in the Big Apple — including a Queens cab driver — and 76 across New York.

Saturday’s numbers more than doubled the cases in the city, which stood at five on Friday, the governor said at a noon press conference. There were 21 new cases outside the city, from 44 the day before, he said.

“We are testing aggressively, said Cuomo. “The more positives you find, the better.”

CPAC attendee tests positive for coronavirus

by Anthony Leonardi

March 07, 2020 05:41 PM
Updated Mar 07, 2020, 06:04 PM

At least one attendee at the 2020 Conservative Political Action Conference tested positive for the new coronavirus late last month.

The American Conservative Union announced that one of the attendees to its annual conference, which attracted 19,000 people in 2019 and roughly the same amount this year, contracted the COVID-19 virus prior to the event in National Harbor, Maryland, thus exposing others to the disease.

"The American Conservative Union has learned that one of our CPAC attendees has unfortunately tested positive today for coronavirus. The exposure occurred previous to the conference. A New Jersey hospital tested the person, and CDC confirmed the positive result," the ACU said in a statement Saturday. "The individual is under the care of medical professionals in the state of New Jersey, and has been quarantined. "

My wife is Facebook friends with a former work associate. The lady lives in Harbin, China and works for a non-profit to rescue/adopt dogs, so they are not dinner.

Periodically they bring a group of dogs, to Canada and USA.

Bottom line:

1. They communicate on FB, with no apparent tampering or censorship.

2. The people/dogs have been "quarantined for 5 weeks, now.

3.  It is not clear beyond that, since China's visa procedures, might make it difficult for them to go, return, multiple times. So it seems, for now, they remain, so as not to compromise their mission.

IOW if they leave, they might not easily get back in.

etc.
