That sounds like so much fun. My family isn’t getting together , my sister is out of state and my mom is hanging out with some other people she knows.

My mother's side of the family does this every 4th of July. Been attending them all my life and never fail to meet a new (to me) relative.  Great fun!

Watching movies? I can watch movies any time. The fourth for me is a time for friends, family, children, and being outdoors all day. I'll likely be burned like a lobster on the 5th, but I don't care. Fun in the sun is what it is all about. Hope I can stay awake long enough for fireworks. We shall see.

My daughter, was born on July 4th.

I remember driving that night, from the hospital to my inlaws home afterwards. Fireworks going off against the  sky.

We have celebrated every year with food, fireworks, fun.

I'm going to bbq some ribs and then go sit in the back of the pickup truck with many of my neighbors in their pickup trucks in the town park while the children run around until it's dark enough for the fireworks to start.  Then everyone loads up sleepy children and goes home.  Pretty perfect.

Our first 4th with a Yorkie we adopted last year.  I have no idea on how he'll react.   Yippily, I'm sure.

My last cat was afraid of fireworks, but he would try to be brave.  He would sit next to me on the sofa, ostensibly to protect me.  But in reality, I had to reassure him.

In this neighborhood, where nearly everyone is on some kind of government assistance, yet they all seem to have fireworks -- a few have already started shooting them off.  Maybe if I'm lucky, they will run out of fireworks and not have any left for the 4th.

Hopefully...I'll get to stay home and not have to drive to my brother's to see his new house.

I eat ribs once a year (cholesteral and all that other health junk), scalloped potatoes and corn on the cob. Oh and bakery cherry pie with ice cream. I just hear Dr. No and Nurse Nazi  having a fit even today. I'll sit outside when it gets dark and watch the fireworks at a nearby marina.

On the 5th...A friend brought me some fresh catfish (well it was when I froze it) and I'm FRYING it. And the leftover veggies from the 4th.

After all, it's all about the food. :) I hope I don't have to go to my brother's, I'm looking forward to this.

Not in mine, but I can drive over a few blocks and be okay there.

I am in a rural area outside city limits.  Neighbors are hundreds or thousands of feet apart.

Our biggest concern is frightening our own horses.

I still contact the neighbors to let them know in advance, and invite them to watch from their yard or ours.

We're doing the beer and fireworks thing. I have some of my own fireworks, and the professional display Laughlin puts on across the river looks fantastic from the bedroom deck of the Castle.  They had one Saturday night, too and they were awesome!

The beer is courtesy of the Castle private bar.  Maybe some Canadian Whiskey to wash it down, eh?

As always, we are getting together at the big house for the festivities...
My brother and his have already landed...
My sister and hers won't be here till the day of.

Burgers, hot dogs, and this year, via my sister, genuine Portabellos ribs, straight from Chicago... Might even still be hot. Tater salad, all kinds of sides, watermelon, and the whole nine yards.

And fireworks after dark. We're the biggest show on the west side of the valley.

I'm bringing crab salad, chili, corn bread, and a dirt cake for the kids.
Gonna be a high old time, as always - The best wingding we throw all year...
But I have to be home before the fireworks actually start, because Chewy will lose his mind.

Hayes is no longer a dry county (it was really the precinct that Driftwood is in, not the whole county).  Enough furriners moved in and voted the dry part out.

We're visiting some good conservative friends who have people over every year for the 4th. We'll just sit around and eat. I still need to do a fruit plate. Watermelon, strawberries and blueberries are chilling as we speak.
