Rest in peace Valerie Harper, I remember a few years ago, when her early struggle became public knowledge... that's about 5 years so I don't remember the specifics.  Thank you for all the good times and comedy, when network comedies had real class, a golden age.

Country Singer Kylie Rae Harris Dead at 30
The performer died following a car accident in New Mexico on Wednesday.

Country singer Kylie Rae Harris has died at age 30 after a car accident in New Mexico on Wednesday, according to multiple reports.

The "Twenty Years From Now" singer was traveling to her performance at Michael Hearne’s Big Barn Dance festival when she was involved in a three-car collision on State Road 522, according to The Tennessean and the Associated Press. Harris and a 16-year-old girl were killed, while a third driver escaped injury. According to the AP, the Sheriff's Office says alcohol is suspected as being a factor in the crash.

Sounds like this "Road 522" where this accident occurred is in very far North New Mexico near Colorado, the article mentions Taos.

Carol Lynley, ‘The Poseidon Adventure’ Star, Dies at 77

Actress Carol Lynley, best known for her role in the 1972 film “The Poseidon Adventure,” died at her Pacific Palisades home Tuesday after suffering a heart attack, according to her friend, actor Trent Dolan. She was 77.

Lynley began her career as a child model, appearing on the cover of Life magazine at the age of 15, before starring in Disney’s “The Light in the Forest” and the independent film “Holiday for Lovers.” Shortly after, she secured a breakout role in the 1958 Broadway play “Blue Denim” and its subsequent film adaptation, in which she played 15-year-old Janet Willard tasked with figuring out how to undergo an illegal abortion.

Don't remember much about Miss Lynley except that she was in one of two biographical movies about Jean Harlow which were released about the same time.  The other movie starred Carroll Baker.  I saw both flicks and my reaction to them was "meh.'  But then again, most bio-flicks are phony and overdone.

Anyway, rest in peace, Miss Lynley.

Were they made-for-tv movies? I enjoy a lot of made-for-tv movies but they probably are not usually, up to the standard of a major budget motion picture. Not that I'm a big fan of most of what Hollywood puts out now and for some time.

Hooray! Zimbabwean Dictator Robert Mugabe Dead at 95

Quote
Today must become a public holiday in Zimbabwe: Robert Mugabe, the country's ancient dictator, has finally died. The freedom fighter turned autocratic-oppressor-of-his-own-people was 95-years-old when he breathed his last breath.
...
Or as The Daily Telegraph puts it:

Quote
Robert Mugabe, the former president of Zimbabwe who has died aged 95, began his 37 years in power as a Nobel Peace Prize nominee credited with creating Africa’s most successful multiracial state.
By the time he was ousted in November 2017 his repressive determination to remain in charge had driven the country into ruin and ensured his place as an international pariah ...

I'm not big on grave-dancing, but for newly deceased monsters like Mugabe, I'll dance. Good riddance!
I am not and never have been a leftist.

If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

Both movies were theatrical releases, but the Carol Lynley version was in black and white and low budget.  The Carroll Baker version was in color and more extravagant, but overall not any better.

Per Kylie Rae Harris:

Back about 6 months ago, these two up-and-coming musicians from Liverpool England were killed in  (actually, one was from Liverpool, the other from Scandinavia but Liverpool was probably the "homebase"), Arizona, that accident was something like 4 am in the morning, definitely after midnight.  We are getting the initial story now, we might find out some things in the days to come.  I seriously doubt Kylie's car had any fault but we will see.

Her's band was the name of the band in the AZ. crash.

It happened to Johnny Horton, these kinds of accidents have happened to many.

More like "Sheriff believes she caused accident", tragic,  she clipped a car and somehow, that sent her into oncoming traffic. The driver of the other car, a HS student, Maria Elena Cruz, killed too. Short article:

On this day... 18 years ago 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning tomorrow. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift of saving lives. None of them saw past 10:00am Sept 11, 2001. In one single moment life may never be the same. As you live and enjoy the breaths you take today and tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted.

T. Boone Pickens
Former multibillionaire and oil baron dies at 91

In 1956, Pickens founded Mesa Petroleum. By the 1980s, Mesa had grown enough that it had the clout to begin corporate raiding, and he established a private equity fund in 1997 after his oil business went bust. Pickens was known for his aggressive attempts to corner markets and his net worth fluctuated wildly during his lifetime. As recently as 2007, Pickens was making billions of dollars in a single year, though he spent, lost and gave away much of that, such that he was down to $500 million in net worth by the time of his death from a series of strokes.

Daniel Johnston
Certified psychotic cult musician dies at 58

If ever there were an epitome of the idea of inexplicable acclaim, Daniel Johnston would probably be it. Landing in Austin, Texas after brief abortive stints in college, Johnston largely gained fame by distributing copies of his albums on the street, handing them out to passersby. Not much of Johnston's work was all that notable: most of it wasn't conventionally good, but it wasn't Shaggs-level "so hilariously bad it's good," either. In fact, most of it was, like his own personality, maddeningly inconsistent. Even so, by the 1990s Johnston had accrued a fan base that included just about every notable alternative musician of the era. His drawings, not much more than simple cartoons, got exposure in art galleries. By all conventional measures, Daniel Johnston should have never become famous... yet somehow he did.

Johnston had severe mental illness and was both bipolar and schizophrenic, which led to extended periods of being institutionalized. It was his physical health that had declined rapidly in the year prior to his death, including a fall and presumed heart troubles. He died at his home September 10.

Tiananmen Square Tank Man photographer Charlie Cole dies

The photographs of the Tiananmen Tank Man became some of the world's most famous

Charlie Cole, one of the photographers who captured the famous Tank Man on film during the Tiananmen Square protests, has died.

The image of one man standing in the way of a column of tanks, a day after hundreds possibly thousands of people died, has become a defining image of the 1989 pro-democracy protests.

Cole won the 1990 World Press Photo award for his picture.

@TomSea

IIRC,tank man was arrested and executed by the Chinese after the smoke cleared and the international press quit paying attention to what had happened in China that day.

China may no longer be a Communist country, but Fascism is still alive and well (?) there. Individualism and standing up against authority MUST be stamped out!

Seems the Rock Grim Reaper is now starting to inflitrate the '80's.  Sadly, time marches on.

I watched actual film of the whole thing, maybe I can find it later. That man at the time, was whisked away by protesters, they got him out of there. Now, whether the man in the picture was later arrested, I have no idea as of now.

I think I've heard he was executed too for that matter. Maybe I wll look it up later.

Did know that Eddie Money was very ill and it didn't look good, but still his passing was a bit of a surprise for some reason.  Loved his music and very sorry to see him go.

Rest in peace., Eddie.

Great song, but poor lip syncing in that video!

Specter owes Eddie for the career shot in the arm, for sure.

That was a performance on Solid Gold.  Solid Gold had a lot of bad lip synching.  Maybe this one is better?  From the David Letterman show in 1988:

I know he'd been fighting cancer but this is a surprise.

About 5 years ago he came to perform at an outdoor event in our area.  I was very disappointed. He had to be helped onto stage as he could barely stand up.  Was escorted off the stage minutes later and returned to the stage after about a 15 minute wait.  He obviously still was in no shape to perform played a couple of songs (shortened versions at best) and left the stage for the night.

Perhaps he was on meds then??  Who knows.  He was definitely under the influence of something.
