A good man went to prison because of him and his wife.  But I will leave Mr. Wilson's judgment up to the Lord.

I agree, vengeance is above my pay grade.  Doesn't mean I have to think well of him.

Many years ago, this ridiculous film noir photo was in a write up about them, in Time magazine. I posted the story on FR. It was hilariously photoshopped by freeper dead, who transformed Joe Wilson into the 1970s Crying Indian.

@TomSea

Which usually means he died of AIDS/AIDS related illness.

@TomSea

Which usually means he died of AIDS/AIDS related illness.

Usually?  You have any stats on that?

Could be a whole bunch of reasons.  Lurid ones like AIDS as you said, or  alcoholism or drug addiction for sure, but also cancer or other serious illnesses over which Mr. Garrison had no control.  Also possible no cause was revealed because an autopsy is pending and/or no one really knows what happened.

Or maybe the family just doesn't want to have it talked about. I grew up a few streets away from a tight-knit Italian immigrant community. They had this superstition that if you merely mentioned the word "cancer," you were doomed to contract the disease and die from it.    My closest childhood friend from that neighborhood sill dances around the word, even though she was born here and is well educated.

I never saw the Karate Kid movies, so I don't know Mr. Garrison, but I'm not going to engage in idle speculation about his death and participate in rumor-mongering.  I'll just wish him rest in peace.

@sneakypete

But per article, there is this:  "...he had been in the hospital for the past month, suffering from kidney and liver problems, and she added that his organs shut down." I guess, this could fit in with an HIV/AIDS diagnosis but this is not how I usually perceive the auto-immune system breaking down. Maybe that happens.

@TomSea

I have no idea if AIDS causes that or not. It might cause the body/immune system to break down where that can happen,or maybe not.

I know that when someone who is famous or semi-famous dies and nobody wants to talk about how or why they died,there is usually something behind it they don't want to talk about.

I also know I don't really care. They are dead now,and they can neither harm anyone else or be harmed by anyone else. Judgements like "good" or "Bad" are no longer relevant to them.

Truth to tell,I don't really understand why someone would feel the need to hide the fact that someone they loved died from AIDS. It's a freaking disease,and not picky and choosy about who it kills.

Their families and loved ones CAN be hurt by thoughtless comments though.

And, the AIDS thing - because many will take that as a sign of moral failing, and maybe the family just doesn't want that to be what people remember about the deceased person.

THere might be a reason for the 'sign of a moral failing' thing. Relatively few have been infected that it was determined the infection did not result from a moral failing of some sort.

First Responders, medical personnel, those receiving tainted blood, and the occasional dental or other patient who was serviced with poorly sterilized equipment are those most at risk, aside from the group who can be lumped under "moral failings"

Of course, but we ALL have moral failings, and maybe the family doesn't want that to be "the thing" they are remembered for.

Well, if I am a first responder or medical personnel, I'd damn sure want to know. Not all moral failings result in diseases that are contagious (blood borne pathogen) and lethal.

As far as someone dying in the privacy of their own home, yeah, only the cleanup crew need be aware.

I'm tempted to wish some other noteworthy would kick off just to bring in a new sub-sub-topic.

The arrogant Wilson and his partner-in-slime brought years of misery to a decent man. That's his epitaph and legacy as far as I'm concerned.
I am not and never have been a leftist.

If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

Don't forget the wives and (unborn) children of men with HIV.

On the continent of Africa many men are extremely promiscuous and infect their wives, and many pre-born babies.

There are a lot of innocent victims of AIDS there........ and obviously some here.

One of the great medical needs of this century has been the need to give antiretrovirals to the wives and children of these louts.

R.I.P. Oriales Rubio: Sen. Marco Rubio’s mother passes away at 88
October 1, 2019 by Alberto de la Cruz

Our deepest and most heartfelt condolences go out to Sen. Marco Rubio and the Rubio family on the passing of Oriales Rubio. As a Cuban refugee, Oriales watched her son Marco achieve incredible success thanks to her and her husband’s sacrifices to ensure their children grew up in freedom.

The Cuban exile community has lost another wonderful mother and grandmother. But the legacy of her courage and hard work will live on in her children.

Via Florida Politics:

    Marco Rubio’s mother, Oriales Rubio, has died

    U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio’s mother, Oriales, has died at 88, he confirmed on Instagram.

    “My mother Oria Rubio returned to be with the Lord on Friday night,” Rubio wrote. “God blessed her with almost 89 years of life filled with love. And with a peaceful death surrounded by those who loved her.

    “The love she had for her children [is] but a glimpse of the even greater love God has for His. And the joy we shared in this life foreshadow(s) the even greater joy we will share in the next. We will live together again. Under a new heaven & in a new earth. God himself will live among us. And there will be ‘no more death or mourning, wailing or pain.’ ”

Even the English-language press covered this one fully:

José José: Mexico's 'Prince of Song' dies aged 71
    29 September 2019
Quote

José José received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2004

Popular Mexican singer José José, known as the "Prince of Song", has died at the age of 71.

The culture ministry confirmed his death on Saturday, describing him as one of Mexico's most-loved voices.

Known for his heartfelt ballads, José José's career spanned five decades, during which he received several Grammy nominations.

The crooner died at a hospital in South Florida following a battle with pancreatic cancer, media reports say.

Read more at: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-49868924

So, his singing might be closest to artists like Johnny Mathis, Engelbert Humperdinck, maybe adult contemporary though they call it "Romanitica" and that is what Julio Iglesias sings too.

My chance, a singer from Spain, Camilo Sesto passed away September 8th, 2019. I was not aware of this previously. That same kind of music.

wikipedia

It seems there was the passing of some other known personality in the past few days, I can not remember now, who that was.

Rubio's typical stump speech would always mention his parents and what would he say about his mother? I know some will recognize it when they hear it,  here's a quote from an article that summarizes it, it's that last sentence:
Quote
In 1971, Marco was born in Miami to Cuban-born parents who came to America following Fidel Castro's takeover. When he was eight years old, Rubio and his family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where his father worked as a bartender at the Sams Town Hotel and his mother as a housekeeper at the Imperial Palace Hotel. In 1985, the family returned to Miami where his father continued working as a bartender at the Mayfair House Hotel until 1997. Thereafter he worked as a school crossing guard until his retirement in 2005. His mother worked as a Kmart stock clerk until she retired in 1995.

https://fedsoc.org/contributors/marco-rubio

I know, he'd always say that, living the American dream...  "and my mother worked all-night as a clerk at Kmart"... so,  Rest In Peace.

Diahann Carroll
Actress known for roles in Julia and Dynasty dies at 84

Carroll (at left) with Sammy Davis Jr.

Over the course of the 1960s, Carroll built her name on the Broadway stage before being cast in 1968 as the lead in the sitcom Julia. The show was unusual in that most sitcoms featuring black women up to that point had featured them in stereotypical maidservant roles, whereas Julia was a typical, working/middle-class nurse. (Even so, the more militant black-nationalists were unhappy with the show because it didn't disseminate their own propaganda.) After Julia, she went on to star as the title character in the dramedy film Claudine, which earned Carroll a nomination for an Academy Award. In the 1980s she was cast in a role in the primetime soap opera Dynasty. She continued acting well into the 2010s.

Frequently married and often dating, her lovers included agent Monte Kay, actor Sidney Poitier, news anchor David Frost, and singer Vic Damone. She died October 4 from cancer.

Ginger Baker died this morning

Legendary Cream drummer Ginger Baker dies at 80
London (CNN) — Ginger Baker, notorious hellraiser and celebrated drummer in the supergroup Cream, has died at the age of 80 at a hospital in the United Kingdom.

"Dad passed away peacefully," his daughter Nettie Baker told CNN in a statement. "He was in no pain and had recently been able to see and speak to his children, close family and special friends."

Psychedelic rock band Hawkwind, which worked with Baker, tweeted their condolences on his death Sunday.

Thanks @Gefn.  I was aware that Baker had been very ill, but it doesn't mitigate the huge loss.  In my youth, Cream was "da bomb." Some of the best rock music ever made.

Rest in peace, Mr. Baker.

@Applewood

I never was into Cream until I inherited a couple CD’s from To whose benefit. It was one of his favorite bands.

Well,it's not like we weren't all warned that sex,drugs,and rock and roll would lead to early graves,is it?

BTW,how's Keef? Anybody know?

Richards will outlive all of us.  I think his body parts have been replaced by mechanical devices.  All he has to do is go to the nearest garage for regular maintenance.

Richards doesn't count on the Death Watch.  He's been pre-embalmed.

@catfish1957

I think "Self-embalmed" might be more accurate.

Scientists should be studying his genes. Can you imagine how long he could live if he had eaten right,exercised,and gotten plenty of sleep?

Looked it up, and Richards father lived to 84, and his mother 91.  So base genetics may be a little at play here.  Still of course he has still defied the longevity odds with his lifestyle.

@sneakypete

It's also possible that, had Richards lived a healthy lifestyle, he might have been hit by a bus while crossing the street.  Much as scientists can come up with statistics that say, if you do this and don't do that, odds are you will live longer, bottom line is that no one can predict with any meaningful accuracy how long any of us are going to live, no matter what we do or don't do.

My Dad used to use the analogy of the old time bakery.  He'd say, when they take your number off the hook, it's your turn.    And that's about it.

    It still amazes me what some people can do when they're hooked on heroin. Most of the addicts I knew, including myself, weren't worth a $hit.
