I wonder how many of those rent-a-mobsters are public school teachers.

Brett Kavanaugh is a true Second Amendment radical. He believes assault weapon bans are unconstitutional, a position way out of the judicial mainstream, far to the right of even late Justice Scalia.

I was going to say that's a major plus until I remembered that Chris Murphy's as delusional as Pelosi on almost everything he flaps his yap about.

My 'Viking Hunter' High Adventure Alternate History Series is FREE, ALL 3 volumes, at most ebook retailers including Ibooks, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, and more.

In Vol 2 the weapons come out in a winner take all war on two fronts.

Vol 3 opens with the rigged murder trial of the villain in a Viking Court under Viking law to set the stage for the hero's own murder trial.

I wonder if all the "Stop Barrett" signs get sent overseas to starving children the same way those "(losing team) SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS" shirts are every February.

Somewhere in the desert, some poor sap is wearing a pink Madame President shirt.

I was hoping for Barrett too..maybe next time.

The libs are in a frenzy....that's gotta tell you something..

I say give him a chance...just stop and think who Hilary would have chosen..

Well the lib frenzy was pre-fabricated (they obviously had four times as many signs and they will now use), but nevertheless your counsel is wise @mystery-ak.  Like you, I was hoping for Judge Barrett, but if Judge Kavanaugh is OK with the Federalist Society then he's OK with me.  And if he's essentially a Second Amendment absolutist then he's even more OK with me.

His position regarding precedent is unavoidable and proper; a Justice has to respect precedent else the law becomes unpredictable and unstable.  However that respect should not be absolute.  Let's trust that, given the opportunity to correct wrongs and the influence of originalist/textualist colleagues, his respect for precedent will be within limits determined by the Constitution itself.

Whether or not the Supreme Court enforces the spirit of the words "Equal Justice Under Law," is determined by the individuals who sit on that Court. Brett Kavanaugh represents a fundamental threat to that promise of equality. I will oppose his nomination to the Supreme Court.

Definite no: @SenGillibrand: Kavanaugh “would tip the balance of the Supreme Court even more against workers’ rights, civil rights, and women’s rights for decades to come. I do not think he is the right choice for our country...”

I hope this nice man knows what's about to happen to his life.

That was my thought too.  A true star in the legal profession and the conservative legal movement,  someone who in different times would bave passed the Senate in near-unanimity,  is about to heart-punched for sport (including, as this thread shows, from his own side.).

I wish him well and commend the President on a fine choice.

Interesting shake up going on with this. Mitch McConnell, Lindsay Graham, and John Cornyn have already praised the pick. Tom Cotton and Rand Paul are both concerned (due to Patriot Act and NSA Surveillance rulings in the past). But the latter said something along the lines of taking a measured approach before making the decision how to vote.

Kavanaugh is not another Gorsuch—not even close. Disappointing pick, particularly with respect to his #4thAmendment record. Future decisions on the constitutionality of government surveillance of Americans will be huge. We can’t afford a rubber stamp for the executive branch.

Justin Amash will not be voting to confirm Justice Kavanaugh...because he is a congressman.

Another interesting turnabout, Freepers for the most part, aren't happy. Too moderate for them. They think it is a Harriet Miers pick.
