Tesla to set up mini solar stores inside Home Depot
« on: February 01, 2018, 03:59:08 pm »
Tesla is expanding its solar division across Home Depot's stores, a source familiar with those plans told CNBC.

The expansion would help Tesla test the appeal of its renewable-energy products to a wider audience. It would help Home Depot use some of its excess floor space to sell new products and gain a competitive edge over its peers.

Bloomberg first reported on the news on Thursday.

Tesla is adding its own selling spaces at 800 of Home Depot's stores across the U.S., the person told CNBC, to sell residential solar panels and Powerwall (batteries) to begin with. Those areas are scheduled to be built in the first half of 2018, and Tesla employees will man them.

Just remember when using your credit or debit card there.   A few years ago when the CEO was asked to spend money on computer security, you know to protect those credit cards he replied "we sell hammers"

I've hated HD for a number of reasons for quite a while now, you don't have to try to talk me in to it.

First off there is no extra space at any Home Despot. They have the aisles jammed up now with nonsense in little displays that belong at the dollar store, not a hardware place. Secondly I got accosted by one of these solar selling idiots while I was trying to pick up some paint for my guys. It gave me an opportunity to let go on this clown what a piece of shit Elon Musk is. That felt good.

They carry a really nice Milwaukee tool chest that I want.  Otherwise I don't go there much.   Not that Lowes is much better.

Lowes tries to force you to use their self checkouts, which dont work half the time.   I end up giving up and walking out without anything about a quarter of the time.

I've heard questionable things about the branded stuff the Despot sells like Milwaukee and John Deere. It is not the real McCoy but cheaper built stuff to meet a price point. I get all my Milwaukee stuff at local industrial supply place.

Same is true for brands like Moen, Kohler and other brand plumbing fixtures.  The "real" Moen and other brands are repairable, the crap from HD is not.

I try to stick with Lowes too. Their junk is less junkier. I am forced to use a Despot because there is one a couple blocks down from one of my multi units and it is convenient. If I had my guys use the nearest Lowes to there, they would drag the trips out to 4 or 5 hours.

Their Kobalt Brand is decent grade.  Bought all I can say about that.

I still buy Craftsman hand tools with the lifetime warranty. Some days I wake up and decide a Philips screwdriver is a concrete chisel and a pipe wrench is a sledge hammer. Never know what mood will strike on any given day.

Hey, that's a good deal on that drill.  Do you have a Builder's Square close to you?  I'll mail you the equivalent value in green stamps if you'll go get that drill for me.

Kobalt hand tools also carry a lifetime warranty, except for the torque wrenches.

They do!  But what they break is the torque controlling ability of the wrench.  The rusted frozen nut usually just stays in place.

Craftsman ones make great breaker bars and in a pinch a half decent ax on small trees.

They are a versatile tool.  One of mine is my permanent Lug Wrench

That is true.  I know for a fact that Stihl makes its low end goods to compete with the Home Depot brands.  The trimmers and blowers fall apart as they are cheaply made in China instead of the regular Stihl quality.

Never buy power or garden equipment from the box stores.

As far as hardware goes, I still try to support the local ACE guy, as much as possible, but they don't always have everything I need.
Good old Court's Hardware, on Hwy 90A, in Stafford, TX.
Been there a long time.

If you ever get close to Emory Texas, you have to visit Hooten's Hardware.

That one is a real hardware store with everything you need including the largest cased display of Case knives I have ever seen.

The cocaine money didn't dry up so much as they just figured out there were things that were just as lucrative and (mostly) legal.

Asking not to see old people in Jupiter is probably asking for too much.  However, they are typically rich and offer some entertainment value in watching them try to get out of their ferarris and maseratis that are too low the ground for them to get out of easily.
