He's trying to win sympathy from the left, but if he goes that direction, it isn't going to do him any good. No matter what he does at this point, they are still going to hate him.
That is the whole history of the GOP for the last 50 years. They want the Left to love them, so they imitate them. But, as you said, it never ever works. Republicans cannot get it through their thick skulls that the Left will always hate them no matter what. It doesn't matter. But they crave the approval of the Left so much, they keep on doing the same things. It is like the Left are the 'cool kids' and the Pubs are the outcast lapdogs constantly trying to fit in.
The Left are fascists. You have to be 100% on their side on every issue all the time, or you are an apostate and should be killed. They apply that crazy standard to each other, to fellow Democrats. It applies double for Republicans.
STOP trying to appease the Left! It is an impossible goal. Have some self respect and be who you are. Jeez, all this pandering, it's sickening.
