Let's see ... the House just passed a bill, Trump proclaimed victory, played kissy-huggy with Ryan and Pence ... but praises the Aussie's for having better health care.   Can anyone say, "typical Trump"?

Say what? Trump praises Australia’s universal health care

Hours after celebrating the House vote to repeal and replace Obamacare, President Donald Trump praised Australia’s universal health-care system as superior to America’s.

‘You have better health care than we do.’
President Donald Trump, to Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull

“It’s going to be fantastic health care,” Trump said of the American Health Care Act during a press conference in New York on Thursday night with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. “I shouldn’t say this to our great gentleman and my friend from Australia because you have better health care than we do.”

Australia has universal health care, where the government pays for all citizens to have access to doctors and public hospitals for free.....

Sen. Bernie Sanders immediately pounced. “Thank you Mr. Trump for admitting that universal health care is the better way to go,” Sanders tweeted late Thursday. “I’ll be sure to quote you on the floor of the Senate.”

Honestly who gives a rats eff what Donny says about anything? If everyone would pull their heads out of their asses and look at who is writing the legislation that Donny will eventually sign, they might notice that it is the GOP CONGRESS!!!

They have been talking repeal and replace for how long and when the rubber meets the road we get a convoluted bucket of shit that is basically the infancy of Single Payer.

I keep telling myself "No Hillary, and we got Gorsuch".  The end.

Not quite.   We still have three years and eight months during which we could (possibly) have another USSC justice appointed... one not so good next time....

and other issues have still not been resolved satisfactorily.    It ain't over, IOW.

Depending upon how things go, the GOP could lose every bit of political capital they had which got them all three branches of government over those next few years.  I hope not, but their stupid-factor is ranking rather high right about now.

I give a damn when our President says one thing to the American people and says quite another to a leader of another country.  Yes, I get that our GOP Congress did patchwork on an already crappy piece of legislation and our GOP Senate is about to make it even worse, but last time I checked "Donny" also has the power to veto.  He also had the chance to make that known to Ryan as well.

Yeah, and Armageddon could come tomorrow and that will all be moot. Why is it important for you to panic and worry about hypotheticals in the future when the bottom line is that there is not one damn thing you can do about anything other than decision involving yourself?

Oh, don't get me wrong, I completely agree...for right now...I am focusing on something positive. As for stupidity; I also agree with you, I'm not so sure that stupidity is the reason, rather intentional destruction.

I can give you at least one lie, and probably come up with three in a pinch, for the last batch of Presidents going back to Coolage. They all lie because they are politicians. Having some absurd Pollyanna attitude that you are getting the straight skinny from an elected official brings nothing but disappointment and anxiety.

Why do you equate discussion of potential issues that may occur.... to panic and worry, Frank?

Also, you seem rather hostile to females these days.  I think you might need to get laid.

Yeah.... I keep thinking.....surely.... nobody is 'that' stupid.  It has to be something more.   Are they all really on the same side/team?  Is it all just a show of kabuki theatre (more like wrestling and roller derby) for our benefit?  Looks like.

Re-read that people and let that truth sink in.

All the hope and faith put into politicians to reign in big-bloated Socialist government is as stupid as expecting unicorns to sh*t skittles for you.

Focus on the decisions you can do for you and yours.  There's no stopping where we are headed, because a majority of the populace WANT what will destroy us and the rulers have no intentions to stop what they are doing.

Until the debt bomb they have rigged finally blows and dollars become only good for feeding the fire keeping you warm on a cold night.
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Infancy of single payer was medicare IMO. Once we got that, single payer was an inevitability.

Well.... you might want to try to wrap your head around the reality.....

that sometimes other people may perceive you to be a bit stupid, too.   It works both ways.

Point is.... everyone here is entitled to their own opinion.  And yours isn't the only one that doesn't reek.   I keep observing (and experiencing) low or no tolerance of differing opinions from folks here that are supposedly righties.  But..... righties didn't usually act like that (like lefties).  They do now, I guess.

The thing is, he didn't tell us one thing and the Australian another.  He's being consistent.  Trump is on record saying he favored universal healthcare.

As president, he could tell the House he wants a free-market bill on his desk to sign, and tell them to get to work on it.  That's not going to happen.

Yes, he 'could' instruct the House to construct a bill that fulfills the promise made to voters, ie full repeal.  He could also ask for the same bill presented to Obama more than once, which Obama vetoed, to be put on his desk for signature.  The question you have to ask yourself .... IF you believe that Trump was sincere when promising a full repeal of ObamaCare.... is why doesn't he do one of those two options?  Because he's good with government-run healthcare (and everything else).... apparently.

I have lived and worked in Australia for 5 years. They have a hybrid public/private health insurance system.

Australia has a universal, government-funded health care system called Medicare (not only for seniors).

Australians are able to go to the hospital and see doctors free of charge under the system, but citizens there must purchase private insurance for some medical services. The system is partially funded by taxes, including an additional tax on wealthy Australians who do not have private health insurance.

Medicare, administered by the federal government, is the publicly funded universal health care system in Australia which was instituted in 1984. It coexists with a private health system. Medicare is funded partly by a 2% Medicare levy (with exceptions for low-income earners), with the balance being provided by government from general revenue. An additional levy of 1% is imposed on high-income earners without private health insurance.

As well as Medicare, there is a separate Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme also funded by the federal government which considerably subsidizes a range of prescription medications.

Funding of the health system in Australia is a combination of government funding and private health insurance. Government funding is through the Medicare scheme, which subsidizes out-of-hospital medical treatment and funds free universal access to hospital treatment. Medicare is funded by a 2% tax levy on taxpayers with incomes above a threshold amount, with an extra 1% levy on high income earners without private health insurance, and the balance being provided by the government from general revenue.

Private health insurance, funds private health and is provided by a number of private health insurance organizations, called health funds. The largest health fund with a 30% market share is Medibank.

Medibank was set up to provide competition to private "for-profit" health funds. Although government owned, the fund has operated as a government business enterprise since 2009, operating as a fully commercialized business paying tax and dividends under the same regulatory regime as do all other registered private health funds. Highly regulated regarding the premiums it can set, the fund was designed to put pressure on other health funds to keep premiums at a reasonable level.

Here's a descriptive phrase that has emerged from Trump's campaign that perfectly sums up the Trump when you hear him say things that makes you think he means it:

"His detractors take him literally but not seriously, while his supporters take him seriously but not literally."

If you go to the FR board regarding this particular statement... you will see them say something like these ( copy and paste ):

Quote
This is just the kind of “make nice” that Trump does. I’ve long ago ignored these kind of remarks. He must have been raised to be a very polite little boy!

Quote
"Exactly! That is the impression I get from him. He compliments people, he wants to get along, but he also has serious strength and isn’t afraid to demonstrate it (The MOAB in Afghanistan).

It never hurts to be polite to your friends and allies."

In other words, don't let his "courtesy to allies" fool you into thinking that he means things literally, he isn't really saying he is for an Australian Style healthcare system.
