You have to wonder if his wife's passing in June was a contributing factor to his passing. RIP Monty, I'm sure you made a heck of a deal!
You can bet your house on it.

When Yogi Berra's wife, Carmen, died in 2014, six weeks after their 65th anniversary, I knew
it was just a matter of time before Yogi joined her. Which he did, sixteen months later. He
was once asked his greatest accomplishment and, pointing to the door through which she
had just passed, he said, "Getting her to marry me. Who would have thought?"

Wow, I did not know he was still alive.

Obscure fact: his name was the basis for a role-playing game term.

@Ghost Bear

Your post lays out exactly what went through my mind when I read the news!

Tom Petty dies at 66

Petty was lead singer of The Heartbreakers, which had consistent success on the rock and top-40 charts from 1978 to 1994. Other bands in which Petty performed included Mudcrutch, which had originally formed in the early 1970s but reunited in 2008 to greater success; and the Traveling Wilburys, a supergroup that included Petty, Jeff Lynne, George Harrison, Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison.

Petty was found unresponsive in his car October 2, in what was later determined to be total cardiac arrest, and was ruled brain dead at the hospital, where he would be taken off life support.

I guess I'm totally unfamiliar with who Tom Petty is. I was thinking he had something to do with car racing.  :shrug:

Anyway, the older I get, the younger 66 sounds. Prayers for his loved ones.

I had to look him up to find out about him.  I'm not a rocker so I had no idea before. 66 is WAY too young.

LAPD says they haven't heard that Petty had died.

http://www.msn.com/ene-us/music/celebrity/tom-petty-on-life-support-after-cardiac-arrest-according-to-reports/ar-AAsPaul?li=BBnbfcL

Thanks. CBS and ABC are also casting doubts on the story that Petty died.

By the way - life support could mean he is on a respirator.  I was hooked up to that after my cardiac arrest and I survived.  Apparently, the respirator is SOP after a cardiac arrest -- at least it was back when I had mine.

There is another news report that says he is in the hospital,still living and being treated. Didn't read more than the headline,though.

Whew! I'm glad I'm not the only one. :seeya: I did visit YouTube and listened to 4 of his songs. That was enough for me. I'm simply not able to discern his appeal. Nevertheless, I am saddened for his loved ones.

Have always been a huge Petty fan.  Have every album / CD as it was produced, even back to the mid '70's.

My favorite is this ditty (though somewhat obscure) .....a video was made for it.

And as a musician, I can honestly say it is probably his most complex work.

'Goodfellas' actor Charles Low, Robert De Niro's buddy, dead at 89

A real estate developer whose friendship with Robert De Niro led him to an acting career that included a notable appearance in "Goodfellas" has died. Charles Low was 89.

Low died Sept. 18 at a nursing home in New Jersey.

Low and De Niro developed a friendship after the actor became a tenant in a building Low owned in New York City. Low went on to act in several films, including "Scent of a Woman," ''The King of Comedy" and "Once Upon a Time in America," and also appeared on the HBO series "The Sopranos."

Low's most notable role came in "Goodfellas," where he played wig salesman Morris "Morrie" Kessler. The character was killed by a screwdriver plunged into the back of his head.

Low's family says his funeral was held Sept. 20 in Elmont, New York.

@catfish1957

Amen,amen,AMEN!

They are letting rap groups in,who don't even play music,never mind rock and roll,and keeping ELO and the Moody Blues out?

SOMBODIE should have stopped taking acid about a decade earlier.

It is sacrilegious to admit rappers into the ROCK and ROLL Hall of Fame.

Principles matter. Words matter.

Fan of his early stuff. Great writing and arrangement, he always had an amazing ability to set a mood, edgy but laid back at the same time.
