I get tired of hearing Trump supporters tell me I'm a troll and a Hitlery supporter because I won't vote for Trump.
I am also getting weary of hearing the same argument from my side.
If the most damning thing you can say about your political sparring partner is they secretly want Hitlery to win...doesn't it logically follow that you think that is the argument that hurts him or her the most?  Are you not already admitting that the thing that will make them feel like crap is they are conspiring with the enemy you both share?

RIV isn't passive-aggressive.  Her anger bleeds out of every post.  She thinks you are wrong.  She thinks you are too dumb to see what she sees.  She think she is right and she is frustrated that she keeps explaining things to us, and keeps getting mocked for her efforts.

I think you are an exceptionally talented writer.  You express complex thoughts in easy to understand and well written posts.  TBR is lucky to have writers like yourself who take time out of their busy schedule to offer their insights and opinion.

You see what I just did there?  I paid you a sincere compliment and now I can tell you things you don't want to hear and I suspect you will actually listen and weigh what I have to say.

You have RIV pegged all wrong...Obstinate...Condescending...Arrogant.  Sure.  Those traits would be viewed as admirable if they were in defense of an opinion you agreed with.  She is all these thing as are most humans.  As am I.  As is anyone who thinks they can psychoanalyze someone based on a few curt and defensive political posts. 

RIV has a family and friends who she wants to live in a better America.  She has strong opinions that she wants to share.  How do I know this?  I don't really, I'm assuming it because I don't think she is really that different than me, but I do base that on a couple years of arguing with her.

I said some nice things about RIV last week and I know she saw it.  I didn't expect that her style of attack would change, and only she knows if she tempered her anger or not, but we have said the foulest, nastiest, shameful things to people who mostly agree America is broken...and only disagree on how to fix it.

I call on you Catherine...if you truly wanted to discuss and reach an understanding, would you have posted the same message to RIV you posted?

Let us clean up this forum and work towards a civility and discourse on the issues that TOS can only remember from 20 years ago.

You do not have to be the bigger person.  There is no reason that can force you to try and understand the people who have spewed unforgivable bile...except you can.

Hey, @CatherineofAragon here's what I do not do:  I do not ping my friends and discuss what I think is wrong with you.  I do not ridicule and insult you.   

When I post, it is to you about the subject and substance of your post.  I do not go off on tangents about you as a person.  I think you know I can, and that if I choose to, I will be honest to the point of unforgiving.  I would prefer not to do this with you; so I am asking you to stop this     Try to remember that this forum is not your personal playground.

Strange year, strange times.    Putting aside our obvious differences concerning the person of one Donald Trump,  I'm probably as close politically to RIV than I am to anyone on this board.   The American Civil War pitted family against family, brother against brother,  and that's how it is again.

Once this is over (and it will be over very, very soon, thank the stars),  can there be reconstruction, can there be reconciliation?

I sometimes wish that Trump and his supporters could be more self-aware and recognize why so many of us believe Trump is beyond the pale.   All the vituperation directed toward the #Nevertrumps never seems to confront why we are forced to oppose him -  it has (at least to me) little to do with ideology, and everything to do with Trump's profound defects of character.    Let Trump step down in favor of Pence,  with Pence continuing to run on each and every one of Trump's policy positions,  and I'd be there, voting in solidarity with the Republicans like I have my whole life.   

Yes, I have serious issues with Trump's message, but mere political differences don't pit brother against brother.  It's the messenger that's exiled me.    I've been accused of fighting and perhaps dying on Sanctimony Hill.   That's preposterous,  given how a Clinton presidency will run counter to everything I've ever stood for.   My conscience has forced me to ignore my own self interest,  to accept the hard times to come because Trump's danger is of the existential kind.   Both to the nation and to conservatism.

Trump certainly believes in the bully pulpit but the idea that he favors a general expansion of federal control is false. His proposals to end Obamacare and subsidies for Common Core are two examples. Trump will energetically undo the Obama legacy and appoint conservative justices to the court.

For me the main thing is he is insane. The man,and I use that term lightly because emotionally he is a 8 year old boy,is a narcissistic sociopath,which means that we are all tools whose only use is to serve him in one way or another. Do any of you REALLY want someone like that destroying our economy to enrich himself,making ultimate foreign policy decisions,and having access to the nuclear launch codes?

Hillary Clinton is at heart a cold and evil bitch who shares those same traits,but to a lesser degree. She is more into gaining power and wealth to be a dictator than she is using tax payer money to create shrines to herself or renaming the country after her,and make no mistake about it,Trump is already trying to figure out how to change the name of America to Trumpnation.

Truth to tell,they are both pretty stupid. The prime difference is Trump grew up with immense wealth and personal power,and Bubbette! has always had handlers working in the background to keep her reigned in and under control.  In other worlds,HER advisors OWN her. They control her reins and can pull her back at any time. Not so with Trump. He is,always has been,and will always be a spoiled Trust Fund Child with no connection to reality.

Even then the Reagan presidency was an aberration. The ruling elites considered him to be a clown and didn't take him seriously,and because of this and them thinking they had total control over the people and the government,he slipped in under the radar and won the Presidency.

The same thing happened a few years later when the actual conservatives within the alleged Republican Party (NOT the same as the Country Club Conservatives) took over control of Congress for the first time in 40 years and immediately started repealing laws limiting the power of the feral government. Their response then was immediate. They had Dims switch parties right away so they could start stabbing conservatives in the back and start taking control of the party away from them.

The chances of seeing an actual conservative on any of the talking head tv shows these days to give counter-point arguments is about the same as being able to buy a dodo bird at a pet shop. The chances of having one as the owner of any media organization is even slimmer. ALL of the major media in this country is now controlled by at MOST 5 or 6 different families,and they are ALL globalists.

Face facts,people. The ONLY media source open to conservatives anymore is the internet,and the only people that visit conservative web sites are people that are already committed conservatives themselves,or Dim plants.

What this country really needs is the long-overdue election followed by mass public hangings of the worse offenders. It ain't going to happen,but that is what is needed.
