Christine M. Flowers commentary: Being pro-life, I'll hold my nose, vote for Trump
 Tuesday July 5, 2016 5:00 AM
Excerpted from Columbus Dispatch (click on link for entire article)
Quote
I vowed I would never vote for Donald Trump. I have written, at last count, seven columns explaining why he repulses me. That is still true; his being and character necessitate spiritual Dramamine. He is, to put it simply, the human equivalent of mayonnaise, the single most disgusting substance I have encountered in my 54 years on Earth.

And yet of course, the rest of this column will be devoted to why, barring some deus ex machina named Paul Ryan, I will be voting for Trump in November.

The reason that I am turning myself into a hypocrite of the highest order at an epidermal level, is to keep myself from becoming a hypocrite at the deepest level of consciousness. I cannot put Hillary Clinton in a position to shape the Supreme Court.

Life has sent me many disappointments over the past few years, and I have weathered some better than others. Men turning into women, or vice versa, is now to be accepted if one does not want to be considered a bigot. Same-sex marriage has now become almost boring in its earnest claim on my attention. We have come a long way since Antonin Scalia predicted the apocalypse in his dissent to Lawrence v. Texas, the case that decriminalized sodomy. I am on the wrong side of history, but at least I have learned to live with what I consider to be an aberration. ...

What has changed is my determination not to vote for Trump. That’s because it is not enough to not vote for Clinton. After the decision on Monday, she tweeted about how the decision was a “ victory” for women’s health. And it was then that I realized Ruth Bader Ginsburg was clinging to her gavel until a liberal could replace her, and the other four feminists (including Breyer and Kennedy) were in good health. Currently, the only thing standing between Clinton and the court is Trump.

I can't do it.

Trump is pro-abortion.  I can't violate my vow to never support a pro-abortion candidate.

And that includes Trump.

I can't vote for him.
Character still matters.  It always matters.

I wear a mask as an exercise in liberty and love for others.  To see it as an infringement of liberty is to entirely miss the point.  Be kind.

I will have to take him at his word.. :nometalk:

After yesterday I will most likely vote for Trump and pray he chooses good conservatives to advise him..and listens to them.

I know who Hillary's advisers are and she must not win the WH

I will make my final decision in Nov when I see if Il is in play....one thing I have noticed is that Hillary is running ads here in central Il....that has never happened...why is she *wasting* money in Il if it is locked up for the Dems?

The fact that people have to lie to themselves to vote Trump says a lot.

Except that he has said that he's "completely pro-choice" even to the point of partial birth abortion.

Donald Trump is not against Planned Parenthood because he is not against abortion.

He's just lying about it to get more votes.

It's not going to work with me.  I am not ever going to vote for a person who thinks ripping a baby apart before it's born is a "choice."

Never.

Donald Trump, liberal Democrat, has created this crisis for Conservative Pro-life Republicans.  It is his deceit and evil doing that has forced us into an impossible choice.

The only answer I can personally come up with is that I have to vote for someone besides Trump or Hillary.

But I would never presume that God will judge others who decide differently.

It's a horrible choice we have.

Horrible.

What does it matter? You'll get either a Socialist Republic or a Fascist Republic either way.

Neither is acceptable and I refuse to vote for two equivalent evils. This isn't even lesser of two evils at this point.

I will make my final decision in Nov when I see if Il is in play....

I'm beginning to wonder what Nov will look like.... With the crazy things he's saying now imagine what he'll be saying if he gets the final nod at the convention.  That's when he could go into full "take a dive," stalking horse mode.  I have to say this is the most unsettled I've ever felt during an election season.

Pray, pray, pray...

Let your hearts be troubled not about a Trump Presidency.  I know for a fact he will not win.  How do I know? It is really very simple.

If Trump was to win this Novemer, someone from the future would have been sent back in time to kill him.  Since that has not happened...we are safe.

I rest my case.

I believe it is Trump's intent to "unsettle" us.

I think that's part of his plan as a stalking horse.

A part he is doing well, btw............   **nononono*

From They Thought They Were Free by Milton Mayer:
(I can find you a Trump quote or promise to fit almost all 14 points)

Quote
1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism - Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.

2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights - Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.

3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause - The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.

4. Supremacy of the Military - Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.

5. Rampant Sexism - The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Divorce, abortion and homosexuality are suppressed and the state is represented as the ultimate guardian of the family institution.

6. Controlled Mass Media - Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.

7. Obsession with National Security - Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.

8. Religion and Government are Intertwined - Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed
to the government's policies or actions.

9. Corporate Power is Protected - The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.

10. Labor Power is Suppressed - Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed.

11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts - Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts and letters is openly attacked.

12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment - Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.

13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption - Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.

14. Fraudulent Elections - Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.

Just today one of Trump's top campaign lieutenants called for a lynching.

You tell me again there's nothing to base that upon.

Christine M. Flowers commentary: Being pro-life, I'll hold my nose, vote for Trump
 Tuesday July 5, 2016 5:00 AM
Excerpted from Columbus Dispatch (click on link for entire article)

I have new for her; she's still a hypocrite.  Trump is on record saying he wouldn't put a stop to partial birth abortion.

If this woman casts a vote for such a person, she's lost all claim to "pro-life" status.
