How couldn't I have seen the rigidness to an opinion that has gotten to the point that they are willing to see Hillrary Clinton win...just so they can feel appreciated.

Well, you and I are not "old friends on the net" as far as I go,but for ME,it has nothing to do with a need to feel appreciated. I have Asperger's,and don't really give a damn if anyone likes me or not.
I am never Trump because I have given up on the political system, and see him being elected as nothing more than a temporary prop to keep the slaves from revolting for another year or two and they start another war somewhere to distract us.
I will NEVER be the first one to fire a shot, and I will NEVER encourage anyone else to do so either, but IMHO the revolution needs to happen within the next couple of years or it will never happen and we will once again be subjects instead of citizens. I see it happening regardless of if Trump or Bubbette! is the stand-in standing in at the WH,so since it is going to happen anyhow,LET THE GAMES BEGIN! The sooner it happens the better if individual freedoms and America is to survive.
Either way, national elections are now a sham and so is what passes for the Two Party System today. Both candidates "work for" the betterment of the same people, themselves. I don't see this changing unless the public rises up and forces changes.
