Nearly 1,500 Muslim imams endorse 'fatwa' against Hamas following Israel attack

The Global Imam Council, which represents 1,470 Muslim Imams around the world condemned Hamas' terrorist attack on Israel and endorsed a "fatwa" against the terror organization.

The GIC, based in Najaf, Iraq, condemned Hamas' October 7 attack last week, declaring that it stands "with the Jewish people in their struggle against ISIS-like Islamist terrorism carried out by Hamas."

"The Global Imams Council (GIC), our members, and the 800+ communities led by our Imams worldwide, abide by the Fatwa issued against Hamas by The Islamic Fatwa Council on 9 March, 2023, charging Hamas with corruption and crimes against humanity; forbidding Muslims from supporting, donating to, joining or praying for the terrorist organization. The GIC is proud to have proposed the Fatwa against Hamas to The Islamic Fatwa Council, and contributed to its Resolution Document that outlines the Islamic legal charges against Hamas," the group wrote in a statement.

The GIC went on to condemn the "extremist and violent rhetoric" used by pro-Palestinian and pro-Hamas protesters in the U.S. and Europe.

Tens of thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters took to the streets in the U.K. and Australia this weekend, with many shouting slogans in favor of killing Jewish people.

Iran threatens intervention if Israeli operations in Gaza escalate, warns of ‘huge earthquake’

Flexing influence throughout the region, an Iranian official threatened Israel with a “huge earthquake” if their “war criminals” didn’t back down on Gaza.

While Hamas had called for a global jihad on Friday, setting populations around the world on high alert, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian had mobilized himself and met with leaders in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon. Speaking with reporters in the latter’s capital Beirut Saturday, the foreign official warned that Hezbollah could escalate the war if Israel didn’t back down.

“I know about the scenarios that Hezbollah has put in place. Any step the resistance (Hezbollah) will take will cause a huge earthquake in the Zionist entity,” Amirabdollahian expressed.

The message came after he had met with a top Hamas official, Saleh Arouri, and the leader of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement, Ziad Nakhaleh, according to Hezbollah’s Al-Manar TV. The Iranian foreign minister added, “I want to warn the war criminals and those who support this entity before it’s too late to stop the crimes against civilians in Gaza, because it might be too late in a few hours.”

Israeli Ambassador: Israel Is Creating 'Safe Zones' for Gaza Civilians

Appearing Saturday on the Fox News Channel, Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Michael Herzog said Israel is creating “safe zones” for Gaza civilians in the southern part of the strip.

A partial transcript is as follows:

    FOX NEWS ANCHOR: Secretary of State Blinken has been traveling the region and in Riyadh he said, “As Israel persues it’s legimate right to defend its people, it’s vitally important that all of us look out for civilians and we are working together to do exactly that.” What do you make of that statement?

    AMBASSADOR MICHAEL HERZOG: The U.S. administration has supported Israel’s right to strike back at Hamas after the massacre and waging war against the state of Israel. At the same time, we understand the concerns from the U.S. We are doing everything possible so that civilians will not be hurt. They’re in a war zone and have become human shields. Hamas has made them into human shields. We are calling on them to leave the northern part of Gaza so they will not be hurt. Hamas is trying to force them to stay so they can use them as human shields.

    We are in the process of preparing what we call safe zones in the southern part of Gaza for all of those who evacuated their homes. We are working very closely with the United Nations to create these safe zones. When they are in the safe zone, we will make sure they get all the vital supplies they need like water, food and medical support.

Blinken urges protection of civilians on both sides amid green light for ground incursion

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken calls for protection for civilians in both the Gaza Strip and Israel as the Israeli military ordered half of the Palestinian territory’s population to evacuate in advance of an expected ground assault.

Blinken met his Saudi Arabian counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, in Riyadh as he began a third day of intense Middle East diplomacy aimed at preventing the Israel-Hamas war from expanding into a regional conflict and fueling a humanitarian crisis.

Both stress the importance of minimizing the harm to civilians as Israel prepared for an anticipated incursion against Hamas a week after the militant group’s unprecedented assault on Israel.

“As Israel pursues its legitimate right, to defending its people and to trying to ensure that this never happens again, it is vitally important that all of us look out for civilians, and we’re working together to do exactly that,” Blinken says before heading to the United Arab Emirates for similar discussions.

“None of us want to see suffering by civilians on any side, whether it’s in Israel, whether it’s in Gaza, whether it’s anywhere else,” he says.

There’s an understanding on the ground that Israel/Gaza could just be the beginning. Look at the amount of American military assets headed this direction. The evacuation of U.S. citizens by sea. Iranian FM meeting with the leader of Hamas. Attacks from Hezbollah. Uncertain days.
