Ukraine’s Zelensky: ‘There Are No Minor Incursions’

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday rejected comments made the day before by President Joe Biden that appeared dismissive of a potential Russian invasion of his country, affirming in a statement to social media, “There are no minor incursions.”

Biden told reporters on Wednesday the United States may not aid Ukraine, a longtime ally, in the event that Russian leader Vladimir Putin invades as long as the invasion is a “minor incursion.” He did not define the term “minor incursion.” Biden also predicted that Putin would invade the country and that he could colonize it, but not without significant losses, and insisted Moscow would “be held accountable” but provided no details as to how.

Zelensky has been asking Biden for one specific action throughout the past year to punish Russia for its ongoing support of separatists in Donbas, eastern Ukraine, and for its colonization of Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula: to sanction the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project, which would greatly enrich Moscow, grant it outsized influence over western Europe, and significantly damage the Ukrainian economy. The pipeline would connect Russia to Germany.

Biden lifted existing sanctions on Nord Stream 2 this summer and has refused to impose any more, instead suggesting his administration would only sanction the project and Russia generally after an invasion of Ukraine. Neither Biden nor any reporters mentioned Nord Stream 2 during his press conference on Wednesday.

We didn't go to war because of the camps.  We went to war because Japan attacked us, and Germany declared war on us.

And if we had been a little more forward thinking, we would have understood what Hitler intended, and then perhaps we would have acted a little earlier, and avoided a lot of additional war.

Our problem is that we have a leader who is dangerously weak and is completely clueless when it comes to diplomacy and foreign policy.  We are facing a problem that is far worse than where the UK was between 1937-1940.

A Russian takeover of Ukraine puts Russian troops less than 200 miles from Warsaw and Budapest.  This would require a commitment to those two NATO allies that is not necessary from the current map.  So it is in our best interest to dissuade Russia from invading Ukraine.  Trump was able to do this quite easily for the four years he was in office because Putin knew he was a crazy bastard that would have had no problem launching every nuclear warhead we had at Moscow.  Unfortunately, Putin also knows that Biden is completely incompetent, and his best opportunity for getting away with invasions of Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan with impunity.

I have never heard Putin say anything about taking over all of Ukraine,  just Donbass and Crimea, the primarily Russian-speaking areas.
