Far-Left City Of Evanston, IL Becomes First City In America To Give Reparations To Black Residents…But There’s a Catch

According to the 2019 US Census– 16.5% of citizens living in Evanston, IL, are black. The far-left city is set to become the first city in America to dole out $10 million in reparations—but there’s a catch. Not every black Evanston resident will qualify for the $25K payout. The money used to pay reparations to some black residents will come from a 3% tax on the sale of recreational marijuana.

Black leaders warn it’s not enough. Evanston NAACP President Rev Michael Nabors says the $25,000 payout is a “drop in the bucket.”

    According to The Sun – The payout is supposed to make amends for the racist housing policies in the city, north of Downtown Chicago, and a reparations program was established in 2019 – but some activists don’t think it’s sufficient.

    The first phase gives $400,000 towards $25,000 grants to eligible recipients, which is supposed to help them out with ownership, mortgage assistance, and improvements to their homes.


    Evanston, Illinois, is the first US city to distribute the money meant to help compensate for a lack of generational wealth and systemic racism.

    To qualify, residents must have lived in Evanston between the years of 1919 and 1969, where they were discriminated against in terms of housing.

I wonder how many Evanston residents died or were maimed in the war that resulted in slaves being freed.

Half of my family ancestors came to the US >40 years after the Civil War ended. The other half lived in the North, some of them fighting for the Union. So I have zero ties to slavery, except a few to its being ended, but I would be taxed to pay "reparations" to the same degree as Simon LeGree's great-great-great-grandchildren (not that they would, if non-fictional, have any responsibility for his actions).

The majority of blacks in the USA alive today came as free men, or are descended from free men.  How could they ever determine who is descended from slaves?  Almost not possible, and why should I pay one dime for wrongs done over 150 years ago?  And my ancestors fought for the union to free the slaves, so again, this notion of reparations is idiotic.

The very first slavemaster in the original 13 colonies was a black man. He came here just like so many other black AND white people who had no assets,as an indentured servant. The deal was he,and all the others,were to work for a stated period of time as an indentured servant to whoever paid the fare to get them here. They then had to work off the boat fare as well as the cost of feeding,housing,and providing medical care for them,and then they would be freed and GIVEN a plot of land to farm,and would usually import their own indentured servants to clear land and plant crops.

This ended when this BLACK man refused to free his black indentured servant,and went to court and won the right to keep him as a slave after "proving" in court that it would be  impossible for the man to ever produce enough labor to pay off what it cost his master to feed,clothe,house,and provide medical care for him.

He later sold off his farm in Virginia,and moved to Maryland,where he had a horse farm. That was where he was living when he died. Can't remember his name right now,but it's not a secret who he was or what he did. It's just ignored by the racists that have an agenda that doesn't include black slave masters.
