The old Blue Laws were the first that crossed my mind as well when I read this. It seems like a minor thing to be dealing with right now.
I barely remember that time... When everyone shut off on Sunday and very little was open. I don't mean just likker, but everybody.
I remember it being handy, because there was a neighborhood grocery (kinda like that era's mini mart) owned by an old Jewish widow-woman who was closed Saturday, but open on Sunday, and more than once Mamma would send me over to pick up something she'd forgotten for Sunday dinner... Because hers was the only store open for a long ways around.
And I find that sad, that it went away. Even setting aside the Sabbath-keeping, the blessing of a day when everybody got to go home and be together, guaranteed once a week, is a terrible thing to lose.
