It's time for Trump to come out and take command

President Trump, who put in a stellar leadership performance with the coronavirus crisis - recognizing the danger, rendering aid with record speed, deregulating, leading on the cure, bringing in many players, and unlike the blue-city and blue-state satraps, moving to close the operation as the curve flattened. It was Trump's classic "hotel manager" crisis management at its best.

But something's gone wrong with his strange silence and ineffectual tweets with this crisis. I'm not the only one who's noticed - Daily Wire has an impressive wrapup of this worrisome development here.

Its premise of course is quite twisted. One racial incident in a solid blue city with all blue players, and suddenly Trump's the one being blamed. It had to be unnerving for him, of course, and maybe easy to dismiss since it was all so meritless, it was blue-city awfulness at its worst. The left hammered on. The entire media establishment and Hollywood chi chi crowd stayed with this line and stepped up their encouragement of protests, painting him with the racism narrative. He seems to be on the defensive.

Now the protests have became a vehicle for criminals, using color of race, for some kind of national 'devil's nights.' It's the Detroitification of America, a neglected, miserable place, except going for multiple nights, with global markets and all the world watching.

This is not a good look for Trump.

But IMO the left is most definitely trying to put the turd in his pocket regarding actually quelling the riots. Visuals of troops he ordered there on the scene with water hoses and breaking heads is exactly what they'd love.

I wonder why no news outlet is showing even a clip from the President's very eloquent speech on this subject from Saturday.

I'm also wondering why the thread with the video and transcript of the President's speech received one reply and 46 views @mystery-ak  http://www.gopbriefingroom.com/index.php/topic,403760.0.html

I'm starting to think few here and no one in the media really gives a damn what the President says ... but relish the opinion he's not saying enough.

He did comment on the protests Saturday, after the space launch. Perhaps with this perceived silence he's trying convey that law and order are, primarily, the responsibility of local and state governments. No one wants posse comitatus.

In any event, a strong message condemning violence while expressing empathy for victims of bigotry would be nice. But let's face it, we're so polarized, he's not going to persuade anyone of anything. Minds are closed.

No one saw this, he did this after the space launch and I must admit I didn't even listen as I had other things to do on a nice Sat afternoon...he needs to address the nation in prime time on all networks...I want my President to show strength that he is in control and doing something about it..I don't want tweet messages...but that's just me..

Right, good point. Now is not the time for eloquence, frankly. We need Trump to be the strong leader we all know he is.

Even though he did say something Saturday, I agree he should log off Twitter and make a public comment - because that's what presidents do. Even a 10 minute speech would do. But as I said, people are so entrenched, it probably wouldn't change a lot of minds.

I'm glad you had a nice afternoon.  This explains why you didn't see it live, but it doesn't explain why the media didn't show clips of it (although I hold out hope we understand why)  It doesn't explain the lack of interest here .... I posted the thread separately and the video on a couple of threads.  No one cared, except one.

He needs to set up the legal framework to treat ANTIFA as a terrorist group, define the punishments; and advise the governors what their roles will be -- even if he has to do all of this away from the cameras @mystery-ak

Oh, for heaven's sake @mystery-ak the President doesn't have to give ammo to the rats.  He's breathing.  That's all they need.

There's no reason to panic.  He will speak when the time is right (he has something of substance to say; which he is working on as we talk) and in a manner of his choosing.

Window dressing. What needs to happen is a national strategy using federal resources to effectively deal with these coordinated assaults. I'd rather have my president take action at this level.
