Kennedy Center Agrees To Pay Orchestra After Lawmakers Move To Rescind Bailout

The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has walked back its decision to furlough nearly 100 members of the symphony orchestra despite receiving a $25 million federal bailout, a move that prompted the affected musicians to file a lawsuit against the performing arts center.

According to The Washington Free Beacon, the center has offered the musicians pay cuts and a wage freeze instead of furloughs, and the union representing the orchestra’s musicians has, in turn, decided to drop a lawsuit against the center for allegedly violating a contract, which prohibits layoffs without six weeks notice.

As a result of the agreement, the Kennedy Center told the news agency that the organization will save $4 million and approximately $2.5 million in payroll through September 2020.

Spending the public money should ALWAYS be monitored to make sure it isn't being spend for purely political purposes,though.

BTW,I am watching a PBS series right now named "World on Fire" on Masterpiece Theater,and enjoying the HELL out of it. NOBODY does historical drama like the Brits,nobody!

Only the first episode has aired at this point,and it is about the invasion of Poland by the Nazi's. Waiting with "baited" breath to see if they mention the USSR invasion of Poland,also. At that time the Nazi's and the Commies were "besties",and they agreed to invade Poland and split it up.

Oddly enough,seems like most of the history books and the movies  seem to forget all about the USSR invasion of Poland,and splitting the nation with their Nazi pals.

There is very little local programming on PBS, so it's my turn to be confused.  Here's a simple, straightforward proposition:  No funding Democrat political media arms. PBS and NPR fail that test, so zero.

What local programming I've seen is as Progressive as the national shows.  The simplest thing to do is just stop feeding Corporation for Public Broadcasting.  It's not Rocket Surgery.  They all do pledge drives.

For years, broadcasters did it your way via "Fairness Doctrine."  Rather than afford airtime to everybody, they just shut down the conservative side and called it good.  In my view, we should simply cut off government funding of the leftists.  That's my opinion, and I encourage everybody to either take it or leave it right there.

The fact that out of all the government programs you want to complain about,PBS is at the top of the list,and they do provide a very important service by airing shows that wouldn't be profitable enough for mainstream network studios.

The issue of funding for public broadcasting maybe should be put up for a vote with a national referendum.

BTW,just watched a 2 hour episode on The American Experience on PBS,and it was about Joe McCarthy. Pretty interesting. A little biased in some respects,but it was clear McCarthy stabbed in the back by the political establishment,who just didn't want the boat rocked.

I had either forgotten about Eisenhower being behind it,or never knew.

Lots of documentary film of both Joe and the people he outed,as well as interviews with some of the people involved,one of whom admitted he was a communist,but still didn't seem to understand that was a bad thing.

When was the last time you saw something like that on network tv?

Public parks are a form of entertainment/exercise for many. But only a small percent of Americans ever visit national parks or national monuments.
