A Man Died After Self-Medicating With A Drug Trump Promoted As A Potential Treatment For The Coronavirus

The elderly man died after taking chloroquine phosphate, an additive used to clean fish tanks. Trump has been promoting chloroquine as a potential treatment for the coronavirus, but health officials say it hasn't been tested properly.

A man died and his wife needed critical care after they both took a drug meant for aquariums that contains chloroquine, which President Trump recently touted as a treatment for COVID-19 in spite of a lack of study by health officials or approval by the World Health Organization.

According to the Banner Health hospital system in Phoenix, the couple, both in their sixties, ingested chloroquine phosphate, "an additive commonly used at aquariums to clean fish tanks." One aquarium supply store online described it as a "wonder drug" that was once only available through veterinarians — for saltwater fish, not humans. The site is currently sold out of the drug.

Thirty minutes after taking the chloroquine phosphate, the couple experienced serious, immediate effects that required them to go to the hospital.

Since the chloroquine phosphate is described as an 'additive' we're left wondering whether these two considered what else might be in the 'wonder drug' they ingested.

I can't believe the media actually are blaming Trump for this, but they are. Please show us where anyone in the administration recommended downing fish tank cleaner.

This couple was incredibly stupid. I'm surprised that when one of them became constipated, they didn't down a jug of antifreeze. After all, Miralax contains polyethylene glycol  and antifreeze is mono ethylene glycol or mono propylene glycol - isn't that the same thing? It's all glycol, right? Close enough! Chug a lug!

I'm surprised they're not blaming Trump for the Utah earthquake.   After all, these same idiots blamed GWB for Katrina, a major tsunami and everything else bad under the sun and on the planet.

The same media that shrieks about "deceptive editing" whenever an alternative media report or campaign ad makes Dems or their big donors look bad - well, they just kinda forgot to mention that the man who died drank aquarium cleaner instead of taking the medicine Trump talked up.

Headlines, Tweets, and lede paragraphs were carefully crafted to give the impression Trump killed the man by telling him to take a drug. You had to dig deep into the stories to learn what really happened. The man's hysterical wife was extensively quoted screaming curses at Trump.

Some outlets tossed in warnings about taking drugs without medical supervision to further obfuscate the fact that the dead man did not take medicine at all. Multiple major news orgs simultaneously did everything possible to consciously create a false impression about the story.

This wasn't just the usual garbage reporting where a bunch of reporters saw a wild story that fit their biases on Twitter and rapidly cranked out articles based on it. They all knew what the true story was - it's buried in all of their pieces.

I did not see a single mainstream media post about the phony story that mentioned anyone other than Trump who has discussed chloroquine as a possible treatment for the Wuhan virus. Almost every post worked Trump's name in.

It's heartening in a way - the Democrats and their media are clearly losing their minds over Trump's rising approval ratings during the coronavirus crisis. They're frantic and desperate. It's one of the reasons the Dems sabotaged the coronavirus aid bill. They need to bleed him.

It's a little ray of sunshine in a dark hour that Democrats and their media are so clearly worried America will come through the coronavirus crisis with a remarkable recovery and Trump will get credit for it. They're increasingly obsessed with preventing that outcome. /end

The silver lining to this is.... it's a clear "don't do this", "don't let this happen to you", "don't self-medicate" (duh) message.   Not that the severely stuckonstupids will get that message, but hope does indeed spring.

They were taking it as a preventative to coronavirus.
Which makes it double stupid. And what they took was not at all in any way what Trump was talking about.
Trump referred to a medicine prescribed by a doctor. These fools were ingesting fish tank cleaner.

Prominent #NeverTrump pundits George Conway and Rick Wilson suggested Trump was morally complicit. Business Insider put the unnamed woman's condemnation of Trump in its headline.
