Sanders introduces bill to ban fracking
« on: February 01, 2020, 01:53:04 pm »
The Hill by Rachel Frazin 1/30/2020

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) this week introduced a bill that aims to ban hydraulic fracking.

The bill was introduced on Tuesday and is titled "a bill to ban the practice of hydraulic fracturing, and for other purposes," according to the Library of Congress, though the text of the legislation was not available on the site.

Sanders has called for a ban on fracking while campaigning for the Democratic presidential nomination, as has Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.).

Sanders tweeted about the bill, which he said was also worked on by Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) and Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Darren Soto (D-Fla.) on Thursday. Merkley was listed as a co-sponsor.

He and the rest of the Democrat presidential field would ban coal and fracking. How will they produce the electricity needed to power their electric cars and recharge their iPhones? Not enough solar panels and windmills in the world for that.

They would need to speed up the manufacturing and production of solar panels -- and if you happened to own one of those companies = $$$  Remember Solyndra?

Besides in my part of the world, solar panels are just about useless all winter when we have little to no sun.    For example, this past week, I saw one sliver of sunlight for about five minutes one day.  The rest of the time it's been gloom.  How much energy have solar panels generated here this past week?  I'm guessing practically none.

Photovoltaic cells are not good here, for the opposite reason.  We have plenty of sun.  Too much sun, like 350 days per year.  The panels break down after a few years because of the UV degradation of the materials.

Maybe the cheap panels break down in a few years.

Hell yeah.  I refused to get them despite the rebates and stuff.  A friend there got a bunch of nice ones, and found that it didn't reduce his electric bills that much after being hit with the service surcharges from the utilities on Solar.

How much energy does it take to drill for the minerals necessary to make solar panels?

These climate change/enviro-whackos are all nuts.  Look, I don't care if they want to use solar power, wind power,  vegetable oil or brain farts for fuel, but I resent them trying to force their BS "alternative energy sources" on me and everyone else.

Have any of these geniuses even considered how many jobs will be lost if fracking, coal and such are stamped out?  Or do they think jobs in "alternative energy source" industries will make up for those lost jobs?  I have news for them -- won't happen.

Ditto here. At this latitude, not only is the incidence angle low, but daylight gets down to as low as 8 hours a day.

And that's if the wind doesn't rip them away and you can keep the snow off.

@mountaineer

Not a problem. You won't need cars, electric or otherwise, once he moves you into different industrial cities according to your job skills and the needs of the State. You will be moved into housing owned by the corporation you work for,and your apartment will be located near where you will work so you can walk or bicycle to work.

As for cell phones, you won't need them anymore because all your family lives in the same building as you,and private ownership of cell phones would allow criminals to conspire against the government. If you need a cell phone for your job,the government will provide one for you that has pre-programmed numbers related to your work.

Other than job-related cell phones that can only call pre-programmed numbers,no cell phones will be allowed because subversives could use them to plot against the government, thereby creating danger to public peace.

Well, there is no future for a company that doesn't make solar panels that don't need to be replaced every few years,is there? Who is going to set up a production line for a product that only has to be made once before the plant shuts down?

Like every product, the onus is on the purchaser to weigh the quality, price, and longevity in their decision for the purchase of the product.
