Pittsburgh is sending medical supplies to sister-city Wuhan to fight coronavirus outbreak
by Cassidy Morrison  | February 24, 2020 01:12 PM

Pittsburgh is sending hundreds of thousands of surgical masks, gloves, and protective coverall suits to hospitals in its sister city of Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the coronavirus.

Mayor Bill Peduto told Pittsburgh's Action News 4 that his office has spoken with the mayor of Wuhan and Chinese medical professionals to determine the need for "materials that would aid the first responders and the doctors ... and the material that can protect the citizens."

The Pittsburgh-based charity Brother's Brother Foundation recently sent 180,000 surgical masks and coverall suits to medics in Wuhan and neighboring cities in China that have seen the highest numbers of coronavirus patients since the virus broke out in late 2019.

CDC Confirms 53 Cases of Coronavirus in the US

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed 53 cases of coronavirus, which causes the disease COVID-19, with the bulk of infections originating from the quarantined Japanese cruise ship.

Thirty-six of those people were on board the Diamond Princess cruise ship that was held in medical isolation for two weeks off the coast of Japan, and three cases were confirmed among people who were evacuated from China. Fourteen U.S. cases were also confirmed, according to the latest count.

The CDC told CNN that additional passengers who had tested for COVID-19 in Japan would likely be added to the U.S. case number count after more verification efforts.

Yes, that's typical for a really bad day.  There were times it was down over 1,000 points, now it's down about 800.

And as the article says, a disproportional number from that cruise ship.

I expect it to rally a bit more, but the bottom line is the market has went from projection to reaction mode, and it will be a slave to the outbreak and it's ultimate toll on the economy.

In the short term, there was relatively little effect. Companies had material in warehouses and on the ocean. We're getting past that stage. Companies that could are getting materials from sources outside of China, but many cannot or cannot get everything needed to produce their product. On China's side of the ocean some factories are starting back up, but their supply chain is also affected, as are some production people, resulting in a less than smooth restart. So even if production resumes in April (or ________), it will take time to achieve full production, and more time to refill the logistical pipeline.

Smarter companies that could used material suppliers with a built-in "Plan B". A supplier would be asked what their plan would be in the event of an earthquake or typhoon that shut down a particular production plant. The "Plan B" facility would have to be in a different country that would be unaffected by the same natural disaster. I'm stating this in hypothetical terms, but several past and my present employers have done and do this.
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

Health officials: 6 confirmed coronavirus cases in San Antonio, Texas

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (WIAT, CBS & CNN) Health officials in Texas, say that there are 3 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus, bringing the total in San Antonio to 6.

Officials say they are now awaiting test results of 4 more people who are showing signs of the virus.

About 150 passengers exposed to the virus on the Diamond Princess cruise ship have been under quarantine at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland for more than a week.

All of the infected people, including one evacuee from Wuhan, China, are currently being held in isolation at the Texas Center for Infectious Disease.

Officials say after exposure to the virus, it takes two to 14 days to potentially become symptomatic. They say the quarantine time for the group will end on March 2nd.

I'm worried. We're a small company. When parts go on allocation we're last in line. It only takes one critical part and production stops while payroll and expenses continue.

First documented case: 20-year-old asymptomatic woman infects 5 members of her family

A 20-year-old woman, who showed no symptoms of the new coronavirus and had normal chest CT imaging results but ended up passing the infection to five of her relatives. Ever since scientists have been asking if a person can have this infection and not be ill. The new case study offers decisive evidence that the virus can be spread asymptomatically, which could make efforts to curb the outbreak even more challenging, say experts. The researchers of the current study are calling it the first documented case of transmission from an asymptomatic person with normal chest CT findings.

“A novel coronavirus has resulted in an ongoing outbreak of viral pneumonia in China. Person-to-person transmission has been demonstrated, but, to our knowledge, transmission of the novel coronavirus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) from an asymptomatic carrier with normal chest computed tomography (CT) findings has not been reported,” say the researchers in their findings published in JAMA.

“One previous study reported an asymptomatic 10-year-old boy with COVID-19 infection, but he had abnormalities on chest CT. If the findings in this report of presumed transmission by an asymptomatic carrier are replicated, the prevention of COVID-19 infection would prove challenging. The mechanism by which asymptomatic carriers could acquire and transmit the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 requires further study,” says the team. The team includes experts from Department of Medical Imaging, Henan Provincial People’s Hospital, China; Department of Radiology, Anyang Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, China; Department of Radiology and Interventional, the Fifth People’s Hospital of Anyang, China; Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital, China; and Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, China.

Identify those critical parts and order extra (rathole 'em).

They are expensive and the supply chain is probably already broken. If you buy a thousand $20 parts that's $20k tied up in just one part. We use hundreds of different parts. They are made all over the world. Flash memory is supposed to be going on allocation soon. On top of that, if you buy all these parts, there's no guarantee your products will be sold if there's a huge down turn making it even harder to maintain payroll with all your money tied up.

The president says all we need do is wait for spring, and that is great for northern hemisphere folks around the globe, but the southern hemisphere temps begin to drop and as it gets cold, the virus continues.

This virus is here to stay, and the USA has done fine so far, but it is only a matter of time.  Just too many flying here and yonder, minimum efforts to curtail said travel, and all it takes is one infected person on a jet to infect 40-400 people from just as many cities.

I saw a projection of 65 million infected.  With 8 billion people worldwide, we will be lucky if it is only 65 million.

The report by Glenn Beck a few days ago was implying the Chinese were burning at least 14,000 bodies outside Wuhan to produce a certain chemical bloom seen via satelite.  If that is true, then the mortality rate is in fact much higher than the Chicoms have indicated.

Time will tell.  Perhaps the notion of keeping sliced onions in your bedroom when you sleep will become a common practice for many.

More Countries Ban Travelers from Korea

February 25, 2020 10:01
Hong Kong has banned all travelers from Korea due to the explosive rise in coronavirus infections here over the weekend. All Koreans who do not live in Hong Kong and any foreigners who visited Korea over the last 14 days are prohibited from entering Hong Kong.
Officials there checked passengers aboard four Korean flights that arrived on Monday and placed visitors from Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province on a monitoring list. The Hong Kong government also issued a travel advisory recommending that citizens avoid traveling to Korea.

Coronavirus live updates: CDC warns Americans of 'significant disruption'

U.S. health officials issued a strong warning about novel coronavirus on Tuesday -- that it's no longer a matter of if, but when it will spread in the U.S., and that Americans should prepare for a "significant disruption."

Until now, health officials said they'd hoped to prevent community spread in the U.S. But following community transmissions in Italy, Iran and South Korea, health officials believe the virus may not be able to be contained at the border.

This comes in contrast to statements from the Trump administration. Acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf said on Tuesday the threat to the U.S. from coronavirus "remains low," despite the White House seeking $1.25 billion in emergency funding to combat the virus.

"well under control" doesn't seem like a wise statement. This could change quickly. It only takes a few evil people to purposely go out and infect people just to spread the love taking the spotlight off China.

Well, let's see here ... another reason yet I am suspicious of this virus being designed to take down the economy to oust Trump.  Rod Rosenstein's sister works for the CDC!!!  To boot -- she is director for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases at the CDC.

He has one sister, Dr. Nancy Messonnier, director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.[18][19]
