1.  The Kurds have not been ethnically cleansed.  They are living in NE Syria, protected by their own forces and the Syrian army from Turkey's (notice the apostrophe) forces.  With a buffer zone Turkey can care less where the Kurds live in Syria ... so "the Kurds" are quite literally better off without us.

It is always a good day when any ISIS monsters die.  Especially this one being a leader in the movement.  But you know its hard to understand Trump.  It was just a few days ago he was saying he didn't care where ISIS escaped to.  He even said some might make it here.  A small percentage.  He wasn't concerned at all after spending American lives fighting to capture them.  That is why I have little enthusiasm for Trumps "fake" victory.

Much of conflict is deception. When there is confusion among the enemy as to your intentions, it compromises their ability to act effectively. We did the same with the D-Day invasion, constructing fleets of decoy vehicles and even having Patton head up the fake force, complete with radio and other traffic.

Idlib is a contested area between Turkey, Syria and Russia.  POTUS must have told them not to interfere.   

I'd bet the whole action between Turkey, Syria and the Kurds was about this. .... with the agreement that the US would go in and get him.

Damn, there wasn't even de-confliction with Turkey. America looks to have been seriously concerned that Turkey would notify the ISIS leader.

Nothing else explains the way America acted here. Notify Russia their enemy, but not their NATO ally?

She also confirms #Baghdadi was ID’d via biometrics from his head, which blew off when he detonated a suicide vest. #Syria

Charles Lister seems to say our CIA may well be penetrating into al Qaeda with these guys, Huras al Din who seem to be affiliated with al Qaeda.

US Defense sources are reporting that US Special Operations forces entered a compound in northern Syria where Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was located, he then detonated a suicide vest killing himself.

The compound was located near the Turkish border in northwest Syria’s Idlib Province, a known terrorist stronghold that has served as a home to groups linked to al-Qaeda. Al-Baghdadi had long been suspected to be hiding in the Idlib Province.

Good point.   The Kurds remain a viable community,  they control the eastern part of Syria where the oil fields are.   And where, now,  the U.S. troops have been moved.    The situation with Turkey's border had to be addressed;  they have as much right to secure their border as we do ours.   With the buffer zone,  hopefully the sides can effect a stalemate that can start the healing process.   And Trump's right; it's time to roll the dice on others taming that area.  It's time to start coming home.   

And yeah -  kudos to our special forces and the President, before departing, for taking out the trash.

In some cheering weekend news, ISIS's big terrorist chieftain, founder Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was rendered into that proverbial grease spot on the desert floor. He won't be missed.

It's a victory comparable to the military rubout of al-Qaida founder, Osama bin Laden. According to NBC News:

    The world’s most wanted terrorist, Islamic State group leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was the target of a deadly U.S.-led raid in northwestern Syria, sources told NBC News early Sunday.

    Forensic testing is underway, but officials believe al-Baghdadi is among the dead, the sources said.
    A U.S. Special Ops mission targeted the ISIS leader near Barisha, Syria, overnight. The mission included helicopters, jets and U.S. drones, the sources said.

    The U.S. fired from the air and then landed and gathered intelligence, the sources said. Several others were also killed in a convoy. There were no reports of U.S. casualties.

So much for all that "expert" opinion in the last few weeks in the mainstream media that President Trump's pullout of U.S. troops from Syria would inevitably bring the recrudescence of ISIS.

You must have been watching a different press conference.  I just saw the whole thing and I witnessed no such "self promotion".   Are you merely seeing and hearing what you wanted to hear vs. the reality?

I did see him mention how he had, in the past, said that Bin Laden needed to be taken out before 9/11.... and that obviously.... he had been correct and right re: that.   If that's what you call self-promotion .... ie having been right.... many folks, including myself, are guilty of that.   I would, however.... at the least, say that Trump had a keen sense of the effing obvious back then re: Bin Laden.  Taking credit for stating the effing obvious isn't really justified, IMO.

I'm confused.  I don't know what to think.  Both Trump and the Fake News say it's good news that al-Baghdadi is dead.  I don't know how the fake news will spin this into an impeachable charge against Trump.  It's almost like the Fake News is siding with America.
