California prepares for biggest blackout yet
The Hill, Oct 25, 2019

California is bracing itself for widespread power outages as forecasts predict powerful winds will strike the state this weekend.

Pacific Gas & Electric warned Friday that it will likely be shutting off power to 850,000 Northern California customers on Saturday night as historic winds are expected to hit the region. The shutdown, which would affect 36 counties, would be the largest wind-related blackout in California to date, according to The Los Angeles Times.

“PG&E will need to turn off power for safety several hours before the potentially damaging winds arrive,” the company said in a statement. “Winds of this magnitude pose a higher risk of damage and sparks on the electric system and rapid wildfire spread. The fire risk is even higher because vegetation on the ground has been dried out by recent wind events.”

PG&E urged customers to prepare for a shutoff lasting 48 hours or longer, noting that “power cannot be restored until the dangerous weather has passed, safety inspections of de-energized lines are complete, and damage to the system has been repaired.”

Quote
California Is Burning and It's Not Because of 'Climate Change'
Townhall, Oct 25, 2019

[...]

But PG&E's equipment couldn't start these huge wildfires without a bunch of dead brush fueling the flames. As Chuck Devore writes in Forbes, "the outrageous cost to remove a few dead trees from private land is a consequence of California's Byzantine environmental regulatory patchwork." It's not climate change that's responsible for these massive fires, "it's decades of environmental mismanagement that has created a tinderbox of unharvested timber, dead trees, and thick underbrush."

As Devore writes, "forest management is so bad on public lands that a new report, ordered by the California legislature in 2010, shows that the portion of California's National Forests protected from timber harvesting is now a net contributor to atmospheric carbon dioxide due to fires and trees killed by insects and disease." So if environmentalists really believed climate change was causing the fires, they would be calling for more timber harvesting to stop it.

How many people have to die before environmentalists wake up? Gov. Gavin Newsom has attributed California's wildfires to the effects of "climate change." But in 2018, President Trump correctly identified the problem and threatened to cut off federal funds if California didn't change its self-harming policies.

Trump tweeted, "There is no reason for these massive, deadly and costly forest fires in California except that forest management is so poor. Billions of dollars are given each year, with so many lives lost, all because of gross mismanagement of the forests. Remedy now, or no more Fed payments!"

A friend and her late husband owned and operated an engineering firm in suburban Los Angeles. When one of these wildfires burned down their office building, that was the last straw for them.  They moved to Texas.  State government had been hamstringing their business for years and those wildfires, aided by state government regulations, ultimately destroyed that business.

I too feel badly for the people affected by these fires, but in some ways, whatever happens is their fault for letting stupid state government officials enact regulations and procedures that allow these fires to get out of control.  If my house was destroyed by one of these fires, I would be livid.  I would be demanding a change.  But California is a liberal, socialist utopia and those people swallow the climate change lie.  So they continue to elect liberal governors like Newsome and other liberal politicians who are killing them.

And by the way, @PeteS in CA and other members and guests in California, I don't mean you.  Just too bad you seem to be outnumbered by a lot of stupid liberals.

There will be more and larger ones as time goes on, guaranteed.

The wackos in control there believe it more important to encourage homeless and illegals than to provide for the citizens' welfare.

Here is Cal Fire's map and list of "incidents" https://fire.ca.gov/incidents/ .

I believe the fires in the LA and San Diego areas are outside of PG&E's service area. Those areas are supplied by SoCal Edison and possibly by LA Light & Power. But those utilities have to follow the same PUC rules/regs PG&E has been following. PG&E has been doing selective power shut downs for several days already, so those fires in the North SF Bay, Sierras, etc. were probably not caused by PG&E equipment. That does not prove anything about 2017 and 2018 fires, but it does show what can happen when PG&E equipment cannot cause wildfires.

California is ruled by the cities. The city people demand that they know what's best for everyone else not in the city. They even regulate how much space each farm animal has to be provided by ballot initiative...  Actual knowledge of rural areas not required. They will deny you use of your land if they find something on it they've deemed more important than you or your rights. No need to own it or pay for the consequences.

The state going third world is just the natural consequence of it all.

Just to add a little focus, the "high winds" in Sonoma County have been recorded in spots as 50mph sustained, with gusts to 70mph. That is seasonal normal, not something unusual. PG&E is not trimming back trees out of greed or stupidity, they are doing what state regs and courts allow them to do. The enviros and Sactomorons need PG&E as a scapegoat to be blamed for the environment they caused.

Outnumbered for sure. Decades of social justice schooling, have reaped fruit in the form of one party rule in California.

Highest taxes, poop on the streets of San Feces.

Choo choo to nowhere.

But the winds are normal.

The notion the power lines start the fires, is fairly new. The power company got sued big time, for the death in Paradise, so it looks like their responce is to just shut the power down.

I live far from these golden hills. I live down the street from a power plant. I live down the street from power lines.

Fires spread very quickly in these winds.

The winds occur normally caused by pressure from the Colorado Plateau.

A couple of days ago, there was a live video broadcast over Youtube, from a helicopter. No audio.

A fire in Pacific Palisades, where Reagans had a city house. Several houses on a hill, under attack by a fast moving fire.

I have seen similar fires, since childhood.

What used to simply be the normal Santa Ana winds and fires, are now "Historic Winds" and cateastrophic fires.

If it bleeds, it leads.

My Dad's youngest sister lived in Santa Ana.  Didn't see much of her since most of my family lived in PA, but my aunt corresponded regularly with Dad and she often mentioned those Santa Ana winds.  My Dad and his sister have been gone for almost 3 decades now, so I know those winds and the resulting fires are not new.    Blaming them on the power company or climate change is totally ridiculous.  But this younger generation seems to think everything is new, so naturally, they fall for this climate change BS.

@IsailedawayfromFR

Agreed. As the society there continues to deteriorate,so will the physical and human infrastructure.  Public water systems will fail due to overuse and no money coming in to repair them. Anything made from wood will most likely end up being stripped to provide firewood for the mental feebs and the illegal aliens living in the canyons. Gee,I wonder what will happen then? After all,if you can't count on a high and starving crackhead to tend to his camp fire in the canyons, who CAN you count on?

Eventually public services will fail to the point where the illegal and the crackheads will go on robbery rampages to score the money they need to live on because they have been taught to believe the government will provide for them.

Pets will begin disappearing out of yards as they are stolen to cook over campfires. When the pets disappear, home invasions for canned goods will become routine.

The Chaos will continue until it gets to the point where the people are screaming for the government to "Do something,DO ANYTHING,BUT STOP THE VIOLENCE!"

And that my friends,is when all the cards fall into line. The Bill of Rights will be suspended "for the duration of the emergency",and the police will be busting heads and shooting people who try to cause them trouble. All with the blessings of the political authorities and the courts. Government buildings and government officials WILL be protected at all times, and their lives will go on as normal. Everybody else will have to kiss the right rings to get electricity and water turned on to prove their loyalty.

NOW you know why the CA Dim pols have been so rabidly anti-gun as well as pro-illegal.

Just saw a story posted on FB, about 3 dead in fires in Baja Calif. (Old Mexico, to the Gringos)

The climate and geographic zone of these fires, extends from Mexico to Oregon.

Coastal hills, winds rushing from Utah towards the Pacific Ocean.

An ember can travel miles, land on a dry structure or hillside, and in minutes it is an out of control fire.

Then we will put it back up. Internet originated in 1969, UCLA, and Stanford.

Not to mention fires...

Hungry? No power, what they gonna do? Well up here that would be fire up the grill, or build a fire in the firepit and cook on that... Guess what happens next with gusty winds...

Live updates: 44,000 flee fire in Sonoma County, Marin County to be 99% blacked out
San Francisco Chronicle, Oct 26, 2019

https://www.sfchronicle.com/california-wildfires/article/Live-updates-Kincade-Fire-grows-to-more-than-14564561.php

Latest developments on the Kincade Fire and PG&E’s power shut-offs. Complete details on the Kincade Fire are here, and full coverage on the outages is here.

3:50 p.m. Newsom won’t “sugarcoat it”: Gov. Gavin Newsom says the state faces a difficult couple of days, with the threat of wildfire and widespread PG&E blackouts. “The next 72 hours will be challenging,” he said at an event in Napa. “I could sugarcoat it, but I will not.”

3:40 p.m. More than 15,000 Vallejo customers to be affected by power shut-off: Solano County sheriff’s officials said more than 15,000 PG&E customers in Vallejo are expected to affected by the shut-off starting around 4 p.m. Saturday.

3:30 p.m. Marin County Sheriff’s Office advises residents to use battery-powered radio if cell service is disrupted: If the wind event affects cell service coverage or WiFi, sheriff’s officials advise residents to tune in a battery-operated radio to local radio stations KCBS-AM 740 or KGO-AM 810.

3:20 p.m. Healdsburg air pollution control office evacuates amid evacuation order: The Northern Sonoma County Air Pollution Control District evacuated from its Healdsburg office, according to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. The Bay Area district will provide updates on behalf of the agency on its website.

2:40 p.m. Evacuation numbers updated: Sonoma County officials updated the number of people ordered evacuated in Healdsburg, Windsor and surrounding unincorporated areas — the total is 44,374 residents, down from an earlier rough estimate of 50,000. An additional 43,411 residents in other areas are covered by evacuation warnings, meaning they should be prepared to evacuate.
