Eight years ago Zurich Mike penned an analogy of the ‘Islamist Spring’ that still rings true today, when he said: President Obama helped kill the zookeepers and unleashed the big cats…. The Turkish movement into Syria is all part of this continuum.

When President Obama ignited the “Islamist Spring” with his speech in Cairo Egypt, what he really articulated was a shift in U.S. foreign policy to support The Muslim Brotherhood.

Political Islam, writ large, is represented by The Brotherhood.  Turkish President Recep Erdogan sees himself as the modern leader of political Islam using the Brotherhood to recreate the Ottoman Empire.... just like Lindsey Graham, the EU demands the U.S. remain as perpetual zookeepers....

Some interesting ideas.

His thesis makes sense - by pulling back direct military support against a NATO member and instead materially supporting the Gulf coalition of Arab states against Political Islam the president is forcing the EU to take up its own defense.

The Conservative Nut House as a source?  No thanks...might as well have come from Ron Paul's monthly newsletter.

I just find it funny that a "source" you've laughed at in the past is suddenly legit to you because they fit the echo chamber you've put yourself into with regards to Trump's knee jerk retreat from Northern Syria that's all.

Why don't you stick to the topic and leave me out of it.

You put yourself into it by bringing in a joke of a source.  Something we highlight with others all the time. The source is always relavent.

If Trump came out tomorrow and declared "I'm the King of America" Conservative Nut House would run article after article by it's members about why it's a genius move and why he's justified in making that declaration.

As for the topic...Trump screwed this one up by the numbers and the people that said he shouldn't have done it are being proven right every single day this cluster fu*k goes on.

But he'll never own up to his mistake and there will be plenty of fire fighters and white knights out there stoking his ego telling him otherwise.

Then why don't you cite a good source about all of the factions; good Kurds, bad Kurds, good Syrians, bad Syrians, goood Iragis, bad Iraqis, good  Turks, bad Turks, good islam, bad islam, good EU, bad EU, good NATO, bad NATO, pan Arabia, Shiite, Sunnis, and the conflicts for over 200 years.

Finally convince Americans that our CIA, and Defense professionals  are wise in matters like this.

I am not being unpatriotic when I opine we have a poor record in this region, and I concur with Trump in placing more concern for our troops, ahead of various players in the greater mid-east and islamic world.

Because this has nothing to do with who's been fighting whome for 400 years.  That's a typical talking point the fire fighters for Trump bring up as a deflection.

I've cited info on the Kurds...I've explained about NATO as well...same for the EU etc.  Where have you been? Not my fault you passed it over becuase it didn't say what you wanted to hear.

This is about abandoning an ally pure and simple.  It's about right and wrong and whether our words means anything.  IN this case it doesn't mean spit right now.

They are a hell of a lot wiser on this than Trump.  The soldiers on the ground...the General that ran CENTCOM...your former hero Jim Mattis all with far more military knowledge experience and leadership than Trump were ignored or fired or left in frustration.  THEY are much wiser on this than Trump or Rand Paul.  But then it apepars I'm much wiser than Paul or Trumpa s well.

No one is accusing you of being unpatriotic.  So if Trump is suppsoedly more concerned about our troops than the actual people that lead them...explain 1,800 AIr Force and Army soldiers to Saudi Arabia.

If Trump cared so much about our troops why then is he setting up for ISIS 2.0?

It was a knee jerk decision by soemone who think's his "gut" on these things is smarter than any boots on the ground soldier and won't listen to any expert opinion that doesn't coencide with his current outlook on any subject at any given time.  And right now that foolish mindset is not only getting innocent women and children killed and it's spitting in the face of a group of people that have fought and died alongside us in the War on Terror.

Ho hum..... just another saga, another chapter in the ongoing Trump Wars.

I posit that, had Trump decided to leave the troops (50 ?) there and/or maybe even sent more in....

these same folks that are using this against him would probably be bitching that he was putting US soldiers in harms' way for a foreign entity that had, literally, been fighting for centuries.

Sooooo predictable.

Yes, it is.  The media/political complex has it out for Trump...duh.  Trump said or did something, therefore it must be wrong.  In what has become standard practice, the MSM is flooding the air waves with "Orange man bad, chaotic, evil, stupid, dangerous, etc."  Unfortunately many on "our side" are fine with that, and fine with being emotionally manipulated and used to further the aims of the bad guys.

Perhaps the silver lining here is.... with Erdogan's bad actor performance against the Kurds.... Turkey will be ejected from NATO, as it should be, and those nukes will be summarily removed from a nation that simply can't be trusted with them (duh).   And maybe... just maybe... it may also illustrate the belief that everything happens for a reason....?

No...some of us wouldn't.

What's predictable...is people using talking points (400 year old war) that has absolutely nothing to do with the current situation to cover up for the current President treating an ally no better than his predecessor did.

There is no privision in the NATO charter for ejecting a member nation.  None.

Should NATO ever decide to remove a member, it would have to amend its treaty. And that would mean getting unanimous support from all members, including Turkey.

So every commander that's worked in that region...the regular and SF soldiers that have been boots on the ground with the Kurds that say this is a dumb move are ALL suffering from TDS?

There might be a way.  Turkey has not honored the terms of the agreement.

What is your solution? Placing US fforces permanently between Turkey and "good" Kurds?
