"A rift over the Des Moines Register’s handling of the Carson King story"
Pray tell, what is "the Carson King story"?
In brief (from memory), King is a 20-something who turned a silly stunt begging for beer money into a significant donation for a charity when he got lots of $$ (I don't think his beg was serious). Anheuser-Busch stepped into the picture, and then some "reporter" on the DMR researched King, found some stupid things he'd said on social media and published it. Anheuser-Busch boldly bailed. This thread kind of picks it up from there,

The DMR canned the "reporter", but never admitted that their "reporter"'s article was a stupid stunt, evidently thinking silence would cause it to blow away. They chose unwisely.
