  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
Which is one reason why the GOP is called the stupid party.   They eat their own, while the rats march in lock-step every time.  Unity is key (united we stand, divided we fall).  And the GOP ain't got it.
Ironic, ain't it? Since Lincoln himself talked about "a house divided..."

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

A vote for Moore is a vote for a Democrat.

Give us a candidate we can unite behind, then we will unite. Moore has already proven he's not it.

You misunderstand, @Jazzhead.  Virtue signaling is done by people who lack virtue in order to make them appear to have virtue.

@roamer_1 does not fall into that category.

@roamer_1 is constantly citing his sacred "principals" as he lives atop his mountain,  proclaiming his virtue over us lowly pragmatists who dare to want to do such things as win elections and solve real problems.   I'm sick of his shit.

Sad comment, really.

Apparently, winning elections is just not enough. You have to win them with the right people. Otherwise, we wouldn't have the mess we have.

If those who throw principles to the wind for the sake of "winning" would stand their ground, on principle, maybe this country wouldn't be such a mess.

As for fecal material, you do pretty well at splattering it around, yourself.

So that means you've finally given up on John Kasich?

False choice.   What is your objection to the Buckley principle?

Your virtue-signaling is boring.

Typical liberal bullcrap, @Jazzhead . A knee-jerk slander to use against anyone who has the fortitude to believe in anything... I take it as a compliment from the likes of such folks.

It's quite the other way around as far as 'looking down one's nose' is concerned, @Jazzhead .

I am sure I have agreed with you a time or two, but so very seldom that I doubt I could recall it. Still, I would not accuse you of 'virtue signaling' - I take it you mean what you say, no matter how ludicrous I might find your position to be.

Besides, us dumb hicks who live on mountains ain't got the mental fortitude for verbal machinations. Generally, we just say what we mean.

It has left us without enough Conservatives to matter... But a handful. And a very long way from '80 and '94.

The false choice is pragmatism. To the point that there is not a single principle of Conservatism to be found, truly defended by Republicans. And certainly so among pragmatists.

Voting for the lesser evil just gets you to the greater evil by a more circuitous route.

It's like saying just a little poo in the punchbowl won't affect the flavor that much.

The choice of Moore only meant that the Country Club and the Liberals joined hands to keep someone out who just might give 'em all Hell. If you're a fan of the shenanigans the GOP Congress has pulled in the first two years of the Trump Presidency, mainly refusing to pass the legislation needed for him to implement policy (until they lost the House and had a real excuse), then keep hitting the same button.
If you really want to drain the swamp, you need people who don't mind telling where the mud is.

As for it being unfortunate that people in other states influence our politics, whichever state we're in, well, yes, it is.

From faux social media campaigns to well funded astroturf organizations that spring up like mushrooms and are toxic to local policy, it is a real blight on the electoral process.

Considering that is EXACTLY the sort of crap that kept Moore out last time, along with the concerted efforts of the homomedia who hated him since he upheld the Alabama Constitution on the issue of same sex 'marriage', I'd think any Conservative would be happy to see him get another shot at office, especially since the air has been cleared.

YMMV.

Ugh! That's gotta be hotter than a popcorn fart, and twice as dusty! Hope you've got air conditioning or a nice swimmin hole.

Though maybe not as bad for a feller used to NoDak summers...

As for me, I'll stay up here in the pines and the birches where the shade works.

We're around 75 today, and the house is wide open, with the smell of lilacs wafting through... Blowing all the heat from the stove right out the window.

(I have chili, brownies, and chocolate pudding all going right now in anticipation of Shabbat.)

June and July will be 80's with cool nights between 40 and 50
Hopefully, we won't see 90's till August, and won't see 100's at all.

LOL!

@Sanguine

Well, the pudding is because I found out my milk has almost turned, and I have to use it up... BTW, make it with cream skimmed off of raw milk and you will never go back...

But yeah - Sabbath is a celebration. I try not to cook after friday sundown, so I go at it early on friday afternoon and make what I need for Shabbat.

So egg/bacon**/cheese salad on sourdough for breakfast, a nice beef salsa thing on a pretzel roll for lunch, and chili or chili mac for tonight and saturday night... Plenty of fruit (to include my first watermelon for the year), and of course, the brownies in a salted caramel sauce...

I wish I had an avacado for under the egg salad, but I'll make due without.

** Fakin bacon (turkey), of course, before the legalists opine

@roamer_1  I think avocados are illegal now.  MSNBC told me so.

Had rain every day (snow, even!) and night time temps in the 30s. Feels a lot like home, only wetter (some desert, huh?)
It's the second time I have worked in a desert area in the last year and been rained on for better'n a week. Maybe I should go on the road to drought areas and charge to hang out.....
