Fox & Friends host criticizes Trump for mocking Kavanaugh accuser
By Justin Wise - 10/03/18 09:00 AM EDT

Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade on Wednesday criticized President Trump for mocking Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault.

“The tactic of the president laying low has been lauded by all sides. Last night he chose to blow it," Kilmeade said on "Fox & Friends," adding that the FBI could be concluding its investigation into Kavanaugh as soon as Wednesday.

"I wonder about the wisdom, as much as the crowd loved it, I wonder about the wisdom tactically of him doing that.”

Kilmeade said that there were clear holes in Christine Blasey Ford's allegations, but cautioned the president against going after her publicly.

Ford is accusing Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her at a high school party in the 1980's. She and Kavanaugh testified last week before the Senate Judiciary Committee regarding her claims.

Reading the criticism I thought Trump might've said something really obnoxious. I heard him say this last night and didn't think too much of it.

This is gonna be another case where the reaction to a Trump statement is far louder and more hysterical than warranted.

Did Trump say anything that was not true? Did he interject his own opinion? No. He simply riffed on her exact testimony before the judiciary committee, word for word. Which was funny enough to elicit big laughter from his audience.

The truth in political wrangling is often too funny (and bizarre!) anyway.

Trump told the truth and that will not be tolerated by the weak sisters, and the democrat/media machine.

It was a great idea. There was a serious bit of news released yesterday with that letter from the ex boyfriend. I checked around and a lit of news sources like Google didn't cover it. Trump forced this news out now by mocking this liar.

USA Today, of all places, just ran an article doubting Ford's credibility. Trump's timing seems perfect.

What Trump can't get through his thick skull is that the Dems are COUNTING on this election being a referendum on him personally.    So styled, the Dems think they can regain the Congress.  The task of the GOP is to nationalize the election on terms favorable to the GOP.    That means the economy,  and, increasingly, the meme that the character assassination of Judge Cavanaugh is reflective of the Dems' creeping evil.    So the media relishes the opportunity, at all times, to turn the spotlight back on Trump, Trump, Trump and his perceived personal foibles.

Why can't the President stick to his prior strategy of keeping his mouth shut and letting the Dems hang themselves?

No matter what the President does  --or does not  -- say or do, there will always be a contingent of naysayers and political enemies speaking out against it.

What makes this President so damn terrific is he will not be cowered by this contingent--he takes them on and says what needs to be said -- and he does it before the American people and the fake news cameras.

No worries, the President knows an ever growing contingent of Americans have his back.

Calm your damn self down @Jazzhead   The democrats will not "hang themselves" -- the media would never allow it.

The only way the dems "hang" is if our side hammers home the truth.  Notice the President doesn't whisper his opinions --- he says them in right into the cameras in front of 12, 000 Americans (and another 40,000 online).

And BTW--- it might help you to actually watch one of the President's rallies --- the economy and security and the administration's accomplishments are talked about, in detail.  Then there's the names of Republican officeholders in attendance before turning the stage over to the candidate being promoted.  The rally then becomes a plea to "keep this going" and the candidate runs through the miracles of the Trump administration.

AND BTW, the President is not shy about beating the democrats about the head and the neck with their very own words and actions, including but not limited to the Kavanaugh lynching,  to the enthusiastic agreement of all watching.

Without this President single-handedly fighting for victory in November, we'd all have cause to be as panicked as you.

Last night was classic Trump IMO.  I think he's his own worst enemy.  Rather than point out the inconsistencies of Ford’s story in a mature adult way that might actually help turn some of the swing Senators his way on Kavanaugh, this President mocked Ford in a childish way that was condemned (“appalling” and “just plain wrong”) by some of the very key Senators (e.g., Flake and Collins) that he needs for confirmation.  Kavanaugh may eventually get there, but I don’t think the President helped by saying the things he said last night especially the way he said them.  Another self-inflicted wound IMO.
I adore facts and data and abhor lies and liars.

I don't know that he has the courage to do that.  Especially without McCain to hide behind.

I hope you're right, Flake is a craven politician after all. But he hates Trump and will not be able to resist all of the good press that the media formerly lavished on McCain.

It doesn't have to be all or nothing.  I have no problem at all with Trump using part of his rally to point out the glaring holes in Ford's testimony.  I do have a problem with the way he delivered it.  He played to his base, and they predictably ate it up.  How about Senators Collins, Heitkamp, Manchin, and Murkowski (who is on record as saying she has had her own "#MeToo" moment)?  Did mocking Ford help sway them to do the right thing?  I have my doubts.

Given Trump's record with women, it would do him and the country good to keep his yap shut on this matter.
He doesn't have to convince his base...they're convinced. He has to try to convince the one third of the country that can be swayed.  Loud words from an admitted heavy duty skirt chaser doesn't help matters.

Exactly.   It's about tone and sensitivity.   I loved David Horowitz's takedown of Ms. Ford;  he did so by asking questions that reveal the inconsistencies and motives of Ms. Ford and her Dem handlers.   Trump's approach is to throw the red meat to his base and bask in the applause - forgetting about the way his rhetoric sounds to the rest of us, and especially the key Senators who must be persuaded to vote to confirm.    The press, of course, is all about shining a light on Trump's personality in the worst possible way.   And so even allies get cornered into declaring the President's remarks as "appalling".

Yes, @Right_in_Virginia, the President deserves credit for the course of the last year and a half,  but he is, as I've said time and again, his own worst enemy.    A booming economy should be leading a Republican landslide; instead Nancy Pelosi is measuring the drapes.    I see the Kavanaugh crucifixion as a opportunity to nationalize the election on grounds where the Dems can rightly be shown to be morally abominable.   And then the President opens his yap, and all the press reports is how insensitive and appalling he is.

The President is going to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.   And, of course, I'll be vilified for pointing that out. *****rollingeyes*****
