No, how many?

"The Resistance" seems strong.  Democratic turnout since Trump's election has been extremely high.  I believe the Dems will be highly motivated, both in the mid-terms and in 2020.  Regardless of how motivated the Dems are though, I believe Trump needs independents to win those key battleground states like Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Florida.  I just don't believe he can win with 58% of independents disapproving of the job he's doing and with 46% strongly disapproving.  I recognize that any polling data that is unfavorable to Trump is largely dismissed by many of his supporters but this poll was touted by Breitbart and some Trumpers.

Trump has been fairly successful in most of his initiatives, even though the jury is still out on some his ventures. The tariffs might cost him dearly. There's not one reputable economist who supports them.
But the economy is roaring, and he's still mostly negative in the polls. He's simply not acting presidential. He's still the Donald Trump who thinks he's running his businesses and not the country. He has to ditch the silly tweeting and fights with ankle-biters.

Au contraire!

He's got over 80,000,000 followers on twitter.  Get serious.

A direct conduit around the media to anybody on the planet who's interested.

Step back and look at this man's accomplishments in the face of what he has to deal with 24/7?

I don't want him to change a single thing he's doing...except to ask Rush Limbaugh to write him a timely speech to share with America on the merits of Conservatism and Free-Market Capitalism.

@goatprairie

I see it exactly the same way.  I think his base will stay with him no matter what, but he can't win re-election with his base alone.  The economy is doing great (thanks largely to his deregulation and tax cuts) yet his disapproval is still above 50%.  The tariffs are stupid and will eventually drag down the economy if he keeps them up.  I think many independents are put off by the "silly tweeting and fights with ankle-biters" (as you put it), but I think he's incapable of stopping that.

At some point you have to acknowledge the unprecedented 24/7 all-media campaign as a big reason for his failure to get to 50% approval. And there's very little he personally can do about that. Regardless if you believe that they'll dial back if he "reaches out" to them.

He could do plenty to reach out beyond his base if he truly wanted to.  I don't think he does.  Instead, he lies (or tells repeated untruths if you prefer), gives adversaries childish nicknames, posts silly tweets, and picks petty squabbles, and when he does those things, the 24/7 all-media campaign calls him on them (of course).  I believe he repeatedly hands the media the ammunition to use against him.  Sure, his base may love it, but many independents don't, as evidenced by the poll referenced by Goldberg where 58% of independents disapprove of the job he’s doing, with 46 percent “strongly” disapproving.  He (and his supporters) can play the victim-card, or he can take ownership of his own actions and stop handing the media the ammunition to use against.  Sadly, I don't think he's capable of it.

Some of Trump's wounds are self inflicted, without a doubt. But if you can't even bring yourself to admit that MOST of the pounding the man takes in the press is over-the-top unfair then there's no point in continuing to discuss the topic. Anyway I refuse to waste my time.

Some of the attacks against Trump are unfair, without a doubt.  The mainstream media is liberal.  It has been for decades.  This isn't anything new (just ask Bush43).  Because the MSM is so liberal and so likely to pick on every little thing a Republican does wrong, I think it's even more important than ever not to simply hand them ammunition against a Republican.  Trump seems determined to not only hand them ammunition, but to load the gun, hand it the MSM, and then help them aim it at himself (figuratively of course).

Eliminating stupid tweets, childish nicknames, petty squabbles, and poorly thoughtout and poorly implemented policy would go a long way, but I don't think he's capable of doing any of that, and as result, he'll continue to hand the media things to use against him, and he and his supporters will continue to play the victim-card.  JMO.

Big like, buddy!

Been a wild ride aboard the Trump Train thanks to the Left and republican NTers.

Sometimes I try to imagine how things would have been if Donald Trump had gotten the customary honeymoon period incoming presidents usually get and maybe had gotten just a sample of the honeymoon period Obama got from Congress and the media for a full 8-years after he was immaculated President.

But despite it all, President Trump kept moving the agenda forward. Six more years gonna take a lot more popcorn.

Let me remind you that President George W. Bush's 6 year 'strategy' of not responding to negative attacks means that it's been 16 years the media have been this way toward Conservatives.

...an ENTIRE voting generation from that bloc has matured and...this shit is all they know.

Ah, you're referring to W's strategery.

Of course the media has always been liberal. But speaking as someone who's watched political reporting closely for decades whats going on now is unprecedented - in the news media, within the unelected bureaucracy and the democrat party.

Exactly!  And when this started, today's voter was just two years old.  (They gave GWB a short honeymoon after Sept 11th.)

To generations going forward, today's type of reporting is the norm.

The msm mercifully attacked the last elected Republican, GWB, only after 9/11 did they relent at all.
I think you Trumpers are using the msm attacks on a Republican Administration as some kind of affirmation.
#2, Cruz as well as #17 Pataki would be catching hell from those bastards now, the only difference is that neither would be in the trough fighting them.  Granted, as mentioned in an earlier post, GWB didn't engage, my point, as always, is that there is a happier median in there somewhere, It's not all Binary.

@skeeter and @aligncare bring up good points also.

Yes, they do.

It makes one realize that indeed, ...this country can vote a national socialist as President.  OVERNIGHT!

He won't need "...sharply creased pants" and a Pepsodent smile.

And me thinks Hillary Clinton knows that too!  LOL!

It puts the dangers of CNN, MSNBC and the alphabets more into focus.

I guess my main point is it'd be tough for anyone to get over 50% approval in the current insane media climate, let alone a nazi, a traitor, a boob who's destroying farmers with his tariffs, a putin-lover who has his fixer paying off his whores... aye carumba.

The only reason he's close to 50% is he's showing results in several key areas. What would his approvals be - goofy tweets and all - if instead of ~10% positive, 25 or 30% of the reportage was positive?

Depends on how many Millennials can experience what Baby Boomers experienced with Ronald Reagan.

I understand your point @skeeter and it is valid.  The msm is relentless in their hatred of the President, it wasn't a surprise to me.
Hell had he done what a lot of us NT'ers thought he'd do, go totally left, they'd still hate him because he has an (R) behind his name.
It is indeed a tough situation but he seems to still enjoy the challenge, so far.

@corbe my friend....I know you say that tongue-in-cheek.

But it DOES take somebody like "The Donald" to become an effective daddy figure to this generation of freshman voters...weaned on Obama's programs and the MSM's complicity...

But certainly, somebody implementing a proven winning agenda.

@DCPatriot There was no sarcasm meant or implied in my post above, I am able to appreciate 'some' of the things My President is doing for me AND my Country, in spite of what @LegalAmerican and @Frank Cannon say about me I am neither a 'Lefty' or a Communist.
