Sanders: Trump considering removing security clearances for Obama-era officials

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders on Monday said that President Trump is exploring whether to remove the security clearance of former CIA Director John Brennan and other top Obama-era intelligence officials.

Sanders accused Brennan, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former FBI Director James Comey and others of “politicizing” and “monetizing” their public service.

“They’ve politicized and in some cases monetized their public service and security clearances,” Sanders said during the daily briefing. “Making baseless accusations of improper contact with Russia, or begin influenced by Russia against the president is extremely inappropriate and the fact that people with security clearances are making these baseless charges provides inappropriate legitimacy to accusations with zero evidence.”

Sanders’ comments came after Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) suggested on Twitter that Brennan should have his security clearance revoked.

As a matter of fact it was BAU for high ranking officials to keep their clearances, as these obviously have to date.

But it was also BAU that they not abuse the courtesy, by hyper-partisan behavior as these have.

Henry Kissinger, probably has held a clearance through several administrations.

GOOD IDEA.  So we have to assume, all people in obama adm, are corrupt, traitors?  My president TRUMP had a lot of obstruction, just getting in his cabinet or S. C. PICKS.  Fired Comey.  No one sees the back lash from that?  Can no one see, what would happen, with getting rid of all prior obamas adm. associates?  Think of demon-rats in congress.  They & some people want to blame my president Trump for laws put in by congress & obama,  today! More then half the people would be gone.  Then, what would they blame my president Trump for?

We are under fire, daily.  Slandered, daily.  Attacked daily.  Threatened daily.  Why are some people not removed?  Do I really have to explain it?

Why isn't it SOP to terminate any security clearances when the person leaves their position?

Because there are times when the new personnel need to consult with their predecessor to address situations during their time.  It's useful for people within the same administration that don't stay in their positions for the full 8 years, as well.

Remove security clearances from all former FBI and intelligence employees.

One of the reasons the clearances are kept in "sleeper mode" is to make it easier for the former employee to accept another position with the government.  Eff that.  Let them each reapply when and if necessary.

If the President needs someone to have this clearance, he or she can apply for and be approved for a thirty day clearance.
