Well, in all candor @Bigun   I think you're overreacting just a bit here.  But, if you'd like to go down this road,  give me your list of prohibited topics so I'll have it for future reference and can act accordingly ... and I'll give you mine so you can do the same.   ^-^

@Right_in_Virginia

There are no prohibited topics but a little personal discretion on your part would be nice.  As has already been noted, some of you just cannot resist any opportunity to dance on the graves of those who didn't see things your way from day one  and that is just plain stupid IMHO.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

I did use discretion @Bigun   This essay isn't a broad-brush all NTs are liberal, Hillary lovers.  This essay is about a sliver within the conservative branch of Republican membership.  But this sliver has a microphone and a pen and they're doing neither themselves nor the party any good.

I think there are changes that this sliver of NT conservatives need to make if they are to remain viable.  I also think this opinion and discussion have a place on the forum, the public forum.  It isn't like us to run from the difficult or the uncomfortable.

Besides, you pinged me to answer the question "why" did I post this.

Let the record show that nowhere in your ping did you say the reason had to please you.

Enjoy the rest of the evening, Bigun.

Maybe because we've been told over & over by the "moderate" wing of the party that we can't expect to get 100% of what we want?

At least thats what they used to say.
Are you getting 100% of what you want?  Hitlery locked up?  Obamacare repealed? Swamp drained? Wall built?  PP defunded now?  Wasteful government spending cut?

You got a SCOTUS judge who voted with rats more often than Kennedy, tariffs, and not much else to show for it.
Enjoy!

Well, this thread should go well.

I'm not sure why some folks feel compelled to dance on the graves of those they feel have been proven wrong.  Isn't it more effective -- not to mention more gracious -- to simply jointly celebrate good news, rather than engaged in a bunch of "nyah nyah, I told you so's?"

Shut up and keep fling feces RINO.  This is the Trump party.

What does it matter if you deficit spend $5 or $500 if you are a "principled Conservative"? Oh yeah. It matters if you are trying to target one single President with high minded bullshit that hasn't existed in 100 years.

Great point.  When have conservatives cared about insane government spending?

I'll never "get used" to seeing my country go down in fiscal ruin.  In fact, I'll never silently just accept it either.  If all true fiscal conservatives become complicit in reckless spending that adds trillions to our national debt then there's little hope for the future IMO.

I am far more confident over our future, because Trump is the first chance since Reagan of a Republican with a pair and a willingness to confront important issues.
Wow.  I'm feeling just a little ashamed of my testicles even though I don't think they make especially reckless.

You're much too intelligent to not notice the wonderful significance and blessing brought upon the nation with a Trump presidency.

More than half the population disagrees with that assessment and that same bunch had the same exact thing to say about Obama.  I see about the same difference, slightly less perhaps in the nation that Obama, Bush and Clinton handed it during their tenures thus far.

But you fanbois make Trump far more ugly than he, himself is.  I'm indifferent to all the claims you people make about how great things are because Trump...considering you people do the same crap the regimes of Clinton and Obama crafted for the public consumption of their leaders.

So, it must be another pathology of sorts.

The one that runs fast and far away from True Believers and the cults of personality they attach themselves to.

I'm opposed to the worship of men and of those whom laud administrators as near-divine and godlike in their bestowment of benevolence because they can gin up a pay-per-view-crowd.

Let's stop pretending.  You just love being a contrarian...despite the foolishness.

I will always fight for principles I believe to be right.  Even when I am the only one left willing to do so.

You're stuck fighting to impose a cult following around a man.

And as for being foolish, I willingly count myself a fool per the wisdom of men.  I do so for the sake of those principles and things that you people now disdain and despise.  Just like the Left does if not moreso.

You fail to make the truth relatable ... you fail to give the truth meaning to the American voter. You fail to give the American voter a reason to trust their future with you and place their vote in your hands.   And without having the American voter with you, you're preaching to the mirror.

I can imagine you would tell everyone that exact same thing when you go to war to push your vote choice between an overt Socialist and a Communist in your near future.

I find it interesting that those who insisted first principles be discarded for self-gratifying pragmatism are now blaming those who refused to discard them with failing to sell first principles to the very people who rejected them and told everyone to discard them.

This was an important analysis and deserved discussion here and RIV had every right to post it here. It’s not as if we are ever spared from having to wade through tons of anti-Trump articles, a majority of which fall apart under the slightest challenge.

National Review had been the gold standard in conservative circles and the fact that it came out as the tip of the NeverTrump spear was an important development. Self examination is needed if we are ever going to understand the significance of Donald Trump’s election to the overall battle to wrest control of the federal government out of the hands of socialists/progressives/leftists, whatever they call themselves.

No sir!  Leave it you to take everything to extremes.

My POV toward political or baseball forums hasn't changed for 25 years going back to usenet.

Just a bunch of 'friends' betting who's right and who isn't.  Prognostication.

But I'm so glad you've responded @INVAR for you are one of the hard-core, unbending 'warriors' in the NT camp...it was actually you and a couple others I had in mind.

Yeah, like deficit spending that makes Obama look fiscally prudent by comparison.

Ohh good grief, spin if you got the web.

The fact of the matter is two of the most unpopular people ever to run for office ended up by perchance at the the final showdown and Trump managed to pull enough rightful hatred of Clinton out to win enough central states to win the election. Nothing much more.

The rest of the story is just poppycock. I am still here, I ain't changed and I never was in the camp of people who would vote for Hillary over Trump as the article suggested.
