Crisis at the National Archives
By Thomas Lipscomb
June 10, 2018

In the middle of directing the difficult task of transferring the historically important records of the Obama administration into the National Archives, the archivist in charge, David Ferriero, ran into a serious problem: A lot of key records are missing.

A first-rate librarian, Ferriero has been driving a much-needed digital overhaul and expansion of the National Archives over the nine years of his appointment. This will greatly improve the ability of digital search locally and remotely, as well as accessing the files themselves.

Laws had to have broken, and nobody will ever be held to account.  Just another leaf in the well-stuffed book of Clinton/Obama crimes.

Violating the law's a problem when they do it, but it's perfectly fine for Trump...

Trump routinely rips up papers that need to be preserved

WASHINGTON – They never thought they’d be piecing the presidency together.

Solomon Lartey and Reginald Young Jr. admitted to Politico their Trump administration jobs were to use rolls of Scotch tape to glue together papers that President Trump destroyed.

The trained records management analysts made more than $60,000 a year to preserve presidential documents for the National Archives before they were abruptly fired earlier this year.

But the career professionals say their jobs changed when Trump came to the White House because the new commander-in-chief routinely rips up documents that needed to be preserved.

Under the Presidential Records Act, the White House must hold onto presidential records for safekeeping and historical purposes.

But staff had a hard time convincing Trump to ditch the habit of ripping up paper when he was finished and tossing the confetti-like pieces into the trash and on the floor.

So Trump rips up his notes and that's equivalent to digitized records from other adminstrations disappearing from the archives?

I suspect it’s an old habit. As CEO of The Trump Organization, Trump never used email nor kept any important communications on paper, he kept them in his head. He was always careful about embarrassing leaks to the press and industrial spying.

You <NOPE> are even more amazing.  Tearing up documents violates federal law, but because you worship Trump, he’s above the law.  In all respects.

Ummm, yeah, it pretty much is the same. Regardless of motive, docs that are supposed to be kept have been discarded.

Perhaps someone can donate a gold lighter to Trump.
Then he would more effectively eliminate bullsh!t.

Um no.  One is a paper record that hasnt been entered.   A few sheets here and there.

The others are records from supposedly secure storage.

Big difference

Just another example there is not a single thing which is too pathetic for NTs to make it about Trump.  Never mind the secure storage at the National Archives was compromised.

No, its a crime that Trump gets bits of paper on his floor.

He owns space in your heads.

NeverTrumpers, you say?

At the Tony Awards last night Robert De Niro used the otherwise classy occasion on national TV to say just one thing. “F*** Trump!” CBS bleeped it. The audience gave it a long, roaring, standing O.

Right, because we're too stupid to recognize that both things are a problem; both documents being removed that used to be there and documents not being archived at all that are supposed to be.  So we should only focus on one thing and to hell with the rest of it because it's "our guy" doing it.

The article says the clerks tape them back together.  So they are making it into the archives, certainly with more labor.

But yeah documents being removed from a secure storage site is a bigger deal then cleaning up bits of paper off the floor.

Its hard to tell the difference any more.

I don't believe this National Archive issue is about Trump. It will be interesting to get a better account of what is missing. Is it blocks from certain servers or certain time periods? Was this due to government ineptitude or technical issues (which also could be ineptitude if there were not sufficient backups in place).

One challenge with going digital only for many of these things is how easily it is to delete or lose records. But, the advantage may be a digital paper trail (for lack of a better term) of what happened.
