It didn't last.

Houston Police Chief has said he's "hit rock bottom" on the gun rights argument.

Quote from Chief Art Acevado:

"I will continue to speak up and will stand up for what my heart and my God commands me to do, and I assure you he hasn't instructed me to believe that gun-rights are bestowed by him".

I don't consider an urban Police Chief from another County "local."  He's a big city dirtbag chiming in with about as much credibility as Davis Hogg.

I saw a news report that quoted a student calling the shot gun, "sawed off."  I have not seen that confirmed anywhere.  It looks like that report has been scrubbed.

Thanks for the reply.  He wore a trench coat and often wore a trench coat.  So a full size shotgun could be hid.

Are they suggesting more casualties to make things fair?

Not sure.  It was posted on bookface by a liberal acquaintance who is a big gun grabber.  I put her on "snooze" for 30 days and can't retrieve the post.

Granted, but his comments will reach about 6 counties I can think of, off the top of my head, when he goes on the local news, Galveston county being one of them.

Harris (of course), Galveston, Brazoria, Ft. Bend, Montgomery, Waller, and Chambers counties, would all have their local evening news coming out of Houston affiliates of ABC,CBS, NBC and Fox.
Those are 6 the counties in the Houston area, others farther out, as well.

Not saying they should agree at all, but they will hear it.

Santa Fe is in Harris County same county as Houston.  This would be akin to the Phoenix Police Chief commenting on and/or criticizing something that happened outside the city limits in Maricopa County.

The city cop needs to pound sand.  His opinion means nothing outside city limits.

No, Santa Fe (about 20 miles from my house) is in Galveston County.  Houston is in Harris County.  Santa Fe is on the Southeast side of Houston.

My bad.  I thought it was Harris County.  I guess that's what happens when I don't get West of Abilene except for once every 10 years or so.

No problem.

By the way, we are well East of Abilene...

Wiki ways it's in Galveston.  About 25-30 miles from Houston.  This dirtbag is about as local as the Governor of Texas.  And yes, what you say about Maricopa county.  In fact, if the mayor of Phoenix had berated Maricopa (there is a town, we go there frequently because our favorite Indian Casino is there), I'd likewise reject it.

Big city Police Chiefs usually don't know Shinola about how things work in the small burgs.  The exceptions being Chiefs who were hired in from small towns, but those are not common.  Usually it's the reverse, where the big-city boys get hired on as Chiefs in small towns.

Before he was Police Chief in Houston he had the same job in San Antonio if that tells you anything.

He's a liberal through and through.

I saw a news report that quoted a student calling the shot gun, "sawed off."  I have not seen that confirmed anywhere.  It looks like that report has been scrubbed.

And now I find a CNN report claiming it was a sawed-off shotgun.

...Authorities have identified the gunman as Dimitrios Pagourtzis, 17. He was armed with a sawed-off shotgun and a .38 caliber handgun, according to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott....

https://www.cnn.com/2018/05/21/us/texas-santa-fe-school-shooting/index.html

And another CNN article today still uses sawed-off

...The suspect was armed with a sawed-off shotgun and a .38-caliber handgun, and Gov. Greg Abbott said last week that the teen obtained the guns from his father. A law enforcement official told CNN that authorities are still trying to determine whether that's the case....

I had no Idea the venerable Remington 870 pump with a 14 in barrel  is considered "sawed-off".  Leave it to the MSM to educate my dumb ass

If it was a 14 barrel, it is "sawed-off".  18" is legal limit.  The 870 was never sold by Remington in anything shorter.  It has been the law since the National Firearms Act of 1934.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
This won't stop until they quit enjoying watching bullying in our schools.
They drive the victim nuts and he/she will use any means to get even.
Tell the teacher? Then the teacher gets a good laugh.
Get the DOE out of our schools.
Yep. And punching some jerk in the mouth will get you expelled. The intermediate means of conflict resolution have been removed from the board, the verbal ones are insufficient. At some point, the kid who wasn't going to take it any more and would have resorted to a fistfight is going to go nuclear.

It's a result of a toxic environment. That doesn't excuse it, but it does point out the options have been limited in the minds of the people who snap. In pop culture (gangsta) the go-to option is to bust some caps, too, and that, reinforced by 'music' doesn't help.

@thackney
I saw an article that said it was in evidence and was described as a "short barrel" 870.  I went to wikipedia on the history of the Pump Action 870 and it said barrel length was 14" to 30"   So I assumed it was the 14"?

The Remington Model 870 is a pump-action shotgun manufactured by Remington Arms Company, LLC. It is widely used by the public for sport shooting, hunting, and self-defense and used by law enforcement and military organizations worldwide. Wikipedia
Length: 37.25 in (946 mm) to 50.5 in (1,280 mm)
Weight: 7.0 lb (3.2 kg) to 8.0 lb (3.6 kg)
Barrel length: 14 in (360 mm) to 30 in (760 mm)
Action: Pump-action
Manufacturer: Remington Arms
Produced: 1950–present

I'd bet the 14 inch models were for LEOs and Military. They'd be classified as a Short Barreled Shotgun under BATF rules and would require special licensing to possess legally.

I wish someone would put a tape to the barrel and report the length so we could tell the press to stfu on the sawed-off bs.

For you or me to have it, it would be treated as a sawed-off shotgun, even if it came from the factory that way.

And from Remington, you could only buy it that way if you are licensed law enforcement.

http://www.remingtonle.com/shotguns/870synthetic.htm

Otherwise, no option for that short of a barrel.
