For you or me to have it, it would be treated as a sawed-off shotgun, even if it came from the factory that way.

And from Remington, you could only buy it that way if you are licensed law enforcement.

http://www.remingtonle.com/shotguns/870synthetic.htm

Otherwise, no option for that short of a barrel.

https://www.remington.com/shotguns/pump-action/model-870

But the optics of the description is that the kid put the barrel in a vice and hacksawed it down to shorten the barrel.

I would like to know the actual facts is all.   Call me crazy I know.

@Wingnut

I should add, we can buy them that way, but only after getting a license from BATFE for owning a NFA regulated weapon.

I've looked a lot at short shotguns for a snake gun on the tractor.  I have never found a way around the license requirement.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
I wish someone would put a tape to the barrel and report the length so we could tell the press to stfu on the sawed-off bs.
The question is how to measure (from the muzzle to where, exactly?) This caused problems for Randy Weaver, ultimately leading to the standoff at Ruby Ridge.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Get a Taurus Judge.  It's a revolver that takes .410s, or alternatively .45 LC.  You can load both into the 5-shot revolver at the same time.
For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm. Sloe Joe Biteme 12/16
I will NOT comply.

My son-in-law had a Judge.  He hated it and ended up selling it.  Seriously unstable weapon.

The kick will break you wrist, too.  Stick with small loads for snakes.

I considered that.  If I went the revolver route I would probably choose the S&W Governor over the Judge.  Mostly because the S&W can also shoot  .45 ACP as well as .45LC.

But they are both rather big, I'm leaning towards a Bond Arms Snake Slayer IV.

The Bond would let me swap barrels to use 357 if I added that.  I've only spent 2 years pondering it.  Don't want to get in any big hurry and make a rush decision....

@thackney
My uncle used to work cattle out west (Dakotas, Montana, Wyoming).   He carried a little 9 shot .22 revolver that he used to shoot snakes from his horse.     Its a pain to clean but quite effective and light.

Oh and he also used dynamite during the annual snake roundup.   Not from the back of his horse though.

I've got one of those:

But I doubt my ability to hit a moving snake with it after the brushhog created such a ruckus to send him away.

I want a short barreled 410 for that, just looking for 10~15 range.

Personally I like the dynamite approach.

My luck I would drop it and end up blowing up the tractor.

I am visualizing a scene similar to the farm field one in the Steve McQueen movie "Hunter".

The S&W Governor also has 6 shells in the revolver.  Both guns look like the cartoon guns from Roger Rabbit.

I've shot it in both Long Colt and 410.  The big size makes it more reasonable to control.  I'm not a huge guy 5'9",  I didn't have trouble with it.  Not exactly made for conceal carry.

And with moon clips it will fire .45 ACP as well.

Yup.  The weapons I no longer have require me to not get both ACP (for one) and LC for the rest I don't have either.  The LC are mainly for a rifle that was lost in that tragic wheat threshing incident last year.

You were using it for a prod and one of the Belgians stepped on it?
