Maine Sen. Susan Collins promised the Senate would not confirm a replacement for Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein if that individual would not commit to continuing the Russia investigation.

Collins, R-Maine, said on ABC’s “This Week” that if President Trump fires special counsel Robert Mueller and his boss, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, to end the Russia probe, the Senate won’t allow the investigation to stop.

“Only the deputy attorney general with fire him. That ... investigation is still going to go on,” Collins said. “So, it would not spell the end of the investigation. If a new deputy attorney general were nominated by the president, I cannot imagine the Senate confirming that individual without a clear commitment to appoint a new independent counsel.”

Several things:
It was nice of her to tell the future nominee what they "must say" to be approved. Saying what you will do means nothing.

The Senator is way, way, behind the times. Currently there is no "Russia investigation". Even Mueller wants to wrap that up. Now, Mueller is simply 'fishing' and flailing about like the Ghestapo, looking for 'anything' to pin on anybody directly or indirectly connected to Trump or his administration. The investigation as it was chartered is already over. All that is left of it is the death throes of a failed coup attempt.

Theoretically, there isn't supposed to be a litmus test for nominees, in the sense that Congressmen say, "I will vote for you but only if you pre-agree to do XYZ. That's not the way the nomination process is supposed to work. But of course today, with Trump, laws rules and traditions, no longer matter.

Demanding a Quid pro Quo from Executive nominees up for confirmation has been going on for many years when the Dems were in charge.  Decades before Trump.   What's new is Dems and Rinos declaring they won't confirm ANY nominees if the current office holders are fired. 

When there were Democratic Presidents the Rinos sat back and said "The President deserve the nominees of his choice."  This is how you got the idiots Obastard put on Scotus with large Republican majorities.

They might, but that would be different because a SCOTUS vacancy would not have been created by a Trump firing.  The Senate is trying to blackmail Trump into not firing Mueller and Rosenswine.

OK. I'm good with that. I think/hope that Trump is coming to the same conclusion that I have come to. And that is that it makes no difference. If Sessions were fired tomorrow, not only would it make no difference in anything, I'm pretty sure no one would even notice. He is a ghost employee. Firing him means nothing.

There is no loss in his office being vacant, because it is vacant now. If Congress will not replace him, Who cares? What difference does it make?

Depends on who the interim director would be.  If Trump fired just Sessions, that would be Rosenswine.

President Trump has been betrayed by the Republicans.  This Salem witch hunt will continue.  He will not fire anyone except perhaps Sessions, who should have been fired the same day he recused himself.  Sessions is the swamp's inside man.  Mueller by the way, is far worse than the Gestapo.  The Gestapo answered to Hitler and Himmler.  Mueller answers to no one.  How could Rosenstein sit back and allow this investigation continue unless he is part of the globalists that want to end Trump?

I would hope that the person Trump or Sessions would appoint wouldn't have connections to the same corruption that they're investigating.  As for Collins, she's nothing more than a leftist liberal mental midget.  Get rid of Rosenstein (Sessions can go to) and start draining the darn swamp.

You are absolutely correct and welcome to the Briefing Room.  Yes Sessions should have been fired long ago, but keep in mind that it was Trump who appointed Rosenstein who in turn appointed Mueller.  Either Trump didn't do his homework or someone (my hunch is Kushner) gave Trump some very, very bad advice. Both Rosenstein and Mueller had a working relationship with Clinton and Bammy and are both involved in Uranium One.
